à propos de cet hébergement
A classic Maine cabin for a taste of camp living in any season!
I've spent my whole life having fun "upta camp", and now you can, too! Huckleberry Hollow is a special spot right on the shores of a beautiful lake in the woods of Maine. My best memories here are of canoeing, swimming, skiing, walking in the woods, having campfires, doing puzzles, fishing, lounging by a cozy woodstove in winter or on the dock in the sun in summer to read and chat, making and sharing feasts with friends and family, and enjoying time in nature alone or with the people I love. The cabin here is not a luxury rental-- it's a family camp and I'm happy to share it with people who appreciate our rustic (but not TOO rustic!) way of life!
There is an open kitchen and living room downstairs with big windows overlooking the porch and the lake, and a large bedroom with a king size bed, full bathroom, and laundry room downstairs. Upstairs, there is another full bathroom, another large bedroom with a king bed and a pull-out bed, a smaller bedroom with two twin beds, and a loft room that serves as a bedroom and/or kids room, with a full bed and a twin bed as well as an optional pull out bed, rocking chair, toys, and games.
In the walk-in basement facing the lake, we have games and toys for water and land, and some winter and summer sporting gear that you're welcome to use. There are 3 kayaks and 2 canoes available for use along with paddles and PFDs, though you will have to move them in and out of the water yourselves. The campfire pit outside has two picnic tables, and the porch has a gas grill and a small outdoor table, so you can have your morning coffee or evening hot-dog roasting outside if you like!
I usually just spend all my time at the lake when I go up to camp, but if you want to explore the area, we're less than an hour drive from Bangor or Ellsworth for shopping or exploring, or Machias for visiting the ocean or some cute restaurants. We're about 90 minutes from Acadia, and it makes a nice day trip to go visit the National Park or hopping Bar Harbor downtown scene.
There is also pretty good internet available these days, so I often work "from camp" when I go up-- it's fast enough to stream multiple devices and carry video calls, etc. There is also a television with tons of movies, a game console of some kind, and something called Roku, which renters have said works great, but I have literally never used. :) I have stocked the bookshelf with fun books, however!
The camp comes stocked with linens, the kitchen is pretty well set up for whatever you need to cook, and I try to leave basic oils, spices, and some condiments there for anyone who is visiting, since it's not close to many stores. There is a local shop called the "Airline Snack Bar" that is 15 minutes away by car, where you can pick up some essentials if needed-- or stop by for a tasty lunch or some homemade muffins!
Overall, this is a great place to come enjoy nature, relax, and play. People have had yoga retreats, book club gatherings, family ice fishing trips, long weekends with friends, and solo retreats here, and everyone has found something to love. If this sounds like something you would like, come on over and visit!
Things to know before you book:
- This is generally a pretty quiet lake and we aim to keep it that way, so please avoid late night parties or loud noises, but we love to hear people laughing and hooting and having a good time together!
- There is a small 4-step staircase to get into the house, and it is possible to drive down to the campfire pit, but there are further steps necessary to access the dock and the water.
- Any time of year when you might encounter snow or mud, you will be navigating the 2.5 mile dirt road to get to the camp. It is fairly well maintained and I'm okay with my car, but sometimes a 4x4 vehicle is needed in winter.
- The cabin is pretty open and there's not a lot of sound-proofing! So I sometimes sleep with earplugs (provided), and you will not want to plan on having a huge amount of auditory privacy.
- The camp is kind of old and will never be a white-glove type of experience! But we take pride in taking good care of the camp and land and keeping things well-tended, clean, and functional. Suggestions are always welcome for ways to improve, and our top priority is that you get to have a great visit!
Definitely reach out if you have questions, and happy travels!
