This charming lakeside getaway was exactly what we were looking for. The best part in our opinion was the complete seclusion. We also enjoyed the pristine lake. We look forward to going back.
We had a great time! Itâs definitely a great rental to disconnect and just relax. We explored the island, did some fishing and played on the beach at Franklin Campground and also played in the water by the pier. The pier was amazing!! Great place to sit and watch the Trumpet Swans in the morning and the Looms at sunset. The
The property was as advertised and we were delighted with the cabin and Franklin Lake. We plan on attempting to book this cabin for next Fall. If you are seeking privacy and solitude, this cabin is for you. Again, such a beautiful lake and the Fall colors were just stunning.
Great private cabin in the woods! Has a nice fire pit for roasting marshmallows and hanging out. The lake is so pretty and serene, and you can hear the loons calling out, The surrounding area has a good amount of outdoorsy things to do and some towns for shopping and food. Great host too! We had a lot of fun, it was nice to disconnect for a while!
This is a great rental with a private dock and no immediate neighbors. The water in front is clean and provides a great place for the kiddos to swim. We would definitely rent this agian.
This cozy, clean cabin checked off several boxes:
- a secluded, quiet setting
- sandy bottom lake and long pier for swimming and relaxing
- campfire ring with plenty of seating
- canoes with life vests
- old-school cabin with plenty of sleeping options, outfitted kitchen with newer appliances. Big windows let in a lot of light and fresh breezes.
Some surprise extras included a ping pong table that got a ton of use by our family, the wood-burning fireplace for nights when it got chilly and a hammock to relax in under the pines. Also, you will hear loons every day--guaranteed! Eagle River is within a 20 minute drive for eating, grocery shopping, etc. There are also several family- and dog-friendly hiking trails in the area.
And the lack of Wifi and cell service really helped us unplug--you will have to get a bit closer to town if you want to check Yelp, post photos to Instagram, etc. The owner, who lives nearby, was very responsive to questions and provided plenty of suggestions for places to eat, hike and visit. Be sure to check out the island across from the cabin!
We loved our week up at the cabin on Franklin Lake. The cabin is located at the end of a beautiful winded road in the Nicolet National Forest. We would sip coffee and read on the screened in porch in the morning and spend the days on the lake swimming, canoeing and kayaking. The lake is pristine and the property is something out of movie set. Very rustic but all of the amenities to cook and prepare meals. We would eat outside on the picnic table after grilling or cooking. We roasted sâmores every night in the fire pit. A glass of wine down at the pier was the prefect way to end the day. The beds were very comfy and all brand new. The breeze at night that came through the cabin was delightful. If you are looking for a relaxing get away to truly unplug this place is for you. Our kids 14, 16 and 24 truly enjoyed nature for a week! We are going back next summer! The owner was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.
We loved the small cabin on Franklin Lake. It was very cozy, larger inside than the pictures look. Very clean, well kept up. The day bed in the living room is an awesome touch, great place for naps by the fire. Nice dock, wish it had been warmer to enjoy sitting by the water. The cabin is tucked away at the end of the road, it was so quiet we felt like we had that whole part of the lake to ourselves. The owner was very wonderful to work with, even had space heaters set up for us as the weather was predicted to be much colder than normal. They worked great to keep us warm along with the fireplace. We hope to come back in the summer and enjoy the lake! Thanks!
Exactly what we needed - came home refreshed and renewed
For many years, our family rented a vintage cabin similar to this outside of Rhinelander. Being in great need of a quiet secluded getaway this summer or fall, we learned that our long time rental was no longer available. We searched for something similar: vintage log cabin, fireplace, on a quiet lake, no close neighbors. And we found it with this cabin. As soon as we stepped out of our car, the loons called. And that was practically the only noise we heard the 4 days of our stay. Katharine, the owner, owns the place next door, (down the road) and was very welcoming. She gave us her phone number in case we had any questions, and then left us on our own. The beautiful views of the woods, the outdoor firepit, the calming views of the lake from the dock were all very spirit replenishing. It is small, but it had all of the room we needed, and was clean. The kitchen was well-enough equipped that we cooked and ate all of our meals at the cabin. Having towels and linens provided was a bonus, since we have had to provide our own at other places. Only comment is that we wish we knew in advance that we needed to provide firewood - though it turned out there was enough there for our needs, with just a little bit of extra scrounging. We do hope very much to be back.
This vintage cabin is located in one of the best places in the north woods. Located just to the west of the sandbar on Franklin Lake, this is a classic 1950's cabin with some fantastic features. we loved the terrific fireplace, which we made good use of as our stay happened to be cold and raining for a couple days. The kitchen was well appointed with coffee maker, microwave and toaster. We were also provided with an awesome bag of coffee from Eagle River Roasters. Down by the pier were 2 canoes to use and folding chairs. Even an ax for chopping firewood was provided. Not having TV or Wifi for a few days was the perfect opportunity to unplug. The fire, nature and the lake were more than enough entertainment, although there are plenty of things to do in town, if that's not enough excitement for you.
The property owner was very informative, and we greatly appreciated her sharing this great property with her renters. We certainly hope we get the opportunity to rent this cabin again.
An in-person site visit is advised prior to making a deposit. "Vintage" should be interpreted as old and shabby. The wicker furniture is uncomfortable, the Weber grill unusable, the old grease container is gross, the glacier in the refrigerator is frightening and the screening in the living room window is in tatters. Access to the shoreline requires navigating numerous steps and once arriving at the shore, the only way to walk the 500 "pristine" feet is to actually get in the water. The "lawn" consists of a few feet around the fire pit. We paid for 6 days but left after 2 nights. If you do decide to rent this property, make sure you get a key or meet a representative...after being asssured that the cabin would be open, we had to climb through a window into the kitchen sink to enter; it was a sign. Buyer beware.
This a true get away spot. Comfortable and cozy cabin. Nice fire pit and comfortable seating. The lake is pristine - quiet only disturbed by calling loons. Great place to kayak. Just beautiful.
The cabin was wonderful! Size just right for our family of 5, comfortable and clean. The lake was really nice for boating and swimming, not so much for fishing. The boys had to go to Anvil lake to find fish. The kitchen was easy to work in.
Overall our time away was great! There was no TV, no wifi, no cell service...loved that! We spent time together around the fire, played games, went for walks, went boating and fishing and swimming.
Highly recommend this cabin.
The water was gorgeous and so was the scenery! The water was the perfect depth near the dock for our three small children to swim. We enjoyed taking the canoe out as well. My husband and son caught a northern pike! The drive out to the cabin is also a site to see. The forest is beautiful and we enjoyed doing a morning run on the road.
We enjoyed our stay thoroughly. Cabin was equipped with many of the things you need. Cook ware, towels, bedding. There is a nice new dock and a canoe with paddles and pfd's. We look forward to another stay there next year.
An old family cabin perched above a pristine lake, at the very edge of a national forest. Just 20 minutes from town, but in another world. Loons, deer, fish, and a fireplace. What else do you need?
Owner is very responsive to your needs.
Loved this quite, cozy and peaceful cabin. Has a great kitchen for making meals and very comfortable overall. Access to the Lake was great and hiking/biking trails abound within 20 minutes. Great place to "unplug" for an extended period of time.
My family of four plus our pup enjoyed vacation at the "Little Cabin" from 6/18-6/24 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cabin was incredibly charming, clean and comfy! Loved the fireplace, as we had a couple of chilly nights and needed to warm up a bit. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with anything we needed for the many meals we prepared, including fish we caught throughout our stay. We were happy with all of the bedding, pillows and extra blankets provided, as well as the towels provided. Although we didn't have much luck fishing on Franklin Lake, we did on Kentuck and Anvil Lakes, which were all within 5-10 miles from our cabin. Having our own private pier came in handy for casting or just enjoying the sunshine and our pup enjoyed the daily swims. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a quiet, secluded and comfy vacation. One side note is that there is little to no cell service (which I absolutely loved), but our teenaged kids found that if they sat on the pier, they were able to get a signal. Thank you Katharine for the wonderful accommodations!
We had the best of times at this perfect cozy retreat. Kat was the perfect host, welcomed us with a bottle of delicious Pinot and Wisconsin cranberry cheddar. We were really sad to leave sunday afternoon. We strongly recommend this place for any couple looking to have a great weekend away from it all. Will certainly look at re-booking in the future.
