The Neighborhood:
The apartment is located in the historic Bloomindgale neighborhood in Northwest DC. Bloomingdale is significant for its status as one of DC’s largest cohesive row house neighborhoods. Its development began with the arrival of a streetcar line and was continued rapidly by a small group of developers and builders in the early 20th Century. It boasts a large stock of row houses of high-quality design and materials, houses intended to attract stable middle-class residents.

Bloomingdale also demonstrates the architectural transition of DC’s row houses away from fanciful three-story Victorian buildings of the early 1890s to the more regular, two-story, front-porch row houses of the 1910s. Bloomingdale played a prominent role in the struggle to abolish racially restrictive housing covenants in the District and nation from 1907-1948.

Amenities
Bloomingdale is extremely walkable, and offers a number of amenities. It is known for signature restaurants, including the famous Red Hen, and a favorite local watering hole, Boundary Stone. A family friendly coffee shop and cafe, Sylvan Cafe is also nearby, as well as favorites El Camino (Mexican), Baccio (Pizza) and Aroi (Thai). All are located near Rhode Island Ave. and First Street. Several new establishments are also under construction in the vicinity. This commercial corridor also boasts dry cleaning, barber shop, mini market/sandwich shop and bottle shop.

Crispus Attucks Park is a privately owned slice of nature made available to the public by the Crispus Attucks Park Conservancy. Located off U Street between First and North Capitol (4 min walk) it’s a great place to slip away to read a book or enjoy a picnic.

LeDroit Park is located off 2nd and V Street, with a playground, dog park and community garden. Fountains also operate in the summer months.

Basics and getting around
Whole Foods Market is walking distance at just over .5 miles and Giant Foods is easily accessible via the G2 bus or a slightly longer walk at .8 miles. Both also deliver for convenience.

Getting Around:
METRO train stop at walkable within 15 minutes, at subway station: Shaw-Howard on the Green/Yellow Lines.

METRO Bus service is frequent and convenient. The G8 gets you to central downtown squares and attractions. The G2 gets you to DuPont Circle and Georgetown. There is also bus access to Union Station along North Capitol Street, which is a central hub that can take you well out of the city as well via the MARC train.

Nearest Capital bikeshare is at 3rd & Elm Streets NW, about a 4-minute walk from the apartment.

There are plenty of rental options for scooters and bikes available, including dedicated racks for parking them one block away. Free2Move is a car sharing app and there are always many cars available in the neighborhood.
