Enjoy life in a lake cottage while maintaining short commutes and everyday conveniences at this centrally-located lake house in a quiet, mid century old-time lake community convenient to absolutely everything.

This is an early 1900s guesthouse in a lake community originally built for weekend retreats from the “big cities” of Hartford and Torrington. Secret Lake was a community of weekend and summer retreats not far from traditional work places used by families in the early mid 1900’s as their get-away havens without complicated travel to far way lands. The home had a fairly low ceiling with a loft above which I raised upon purchasing. Other than that, the architecture is original. Come enjoy how life used to be in classic mid century American times.

In 2005 Money Magazine rated Avon third safest town in America.

This home is centrally located, situated under a 30 minute drive to the UCONN Health Center, Hospital of Central Connecticut, Hartford Hospital, and St. Francis hospital in Hartford. Also just a 35 minute commute will bring you to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington!

Where do I begin--- 1) upon checking in Friday a maintenance guy was parked in the driveway so I had to contact the owner where to park since the property is on a very narrow road and there is no available street parking, 2) maintenance guy was on the property for almost 2 hours to get heat and hot water working, 3) I was instructed to turn up the heat to heat up the water (that didn't work, couldn't take comfortable warm showers at bedtime after a long travel day), 3) left early in the morning to attend an event for several hours and upon returning to the property late-afternoon a maintenance crew was on the property powerwashing with a loud generator next to the house (not relaxing after a long day) AND still no hot water! 4) the kitchen sink backed up because the garbage disposal wasn't emptied prior to our stay, 5) the bathroom door is bi-fold style so privacy is somewhat limited. We ended up leaving 8am Sunday. Although the property owner (Lisa) was very pleasant in person and on the phone and tried to make up for the inconveniences, it was a very disappointing stay, definitely not worth the amount we paid. If you decide to book this property, ask A LOT of questions before confirming your plans... make sure all maintenance is done and everything works on the property WAY BEFORE arriving. I probably would've appreciated a week's notice that the property was not ready for renting and receive a FULL refund instead of dealing with so much in a 36-hour timeframe.

Our review of the property at Sun Filled Lake House Living property from July 10 to July 18, 2026.Overall, we had a wonderful time. The property looked exactly like the pictures, and we absolutely loved the character of the old-style cottage. The setting nestled in the woods was beautiful, and having two outdoor sitting areas was a great feature. We particularly enjoyed spending our mornings having coffee on the front patio, which quickly became our favorite spot. We also spent a great day at the lake and truly appreciated that the chairs and umbrellas that were already set up at the beach for guests to use.Additionally, thank you Alexander for being so incredibly responsive to our texts throughout our stay. It was wonderful how quickly you got back to us whenever we reached out.The only real negative we experienced was that the main level of the house could have used a deep cleaning, but everything else about our stay was excellent.

This classic New England neighborhood is iconic to Connecticut. Located around the corner from the architecturally stunning private preparatory Avon Old Farms School. In 1908, when my ancestors migrated to America from Italy, they, like many Italian Americans passing through Ellis Island, Chose Avon, Connecticut to call home. At the time, Avon had a one room schoolhouse where my family was educated, and which still exists as a historical monument today. Avon has progressed from a town filled with tobacco farms, bootleggers and dirt roads to a sleek, cosmopolitan community that has maintained ties with the past. It offers golf courses, a recreational 11-mile-long bike trail, miles of hiking trails and shopping from locally owned small boutiques to the nation’s largest franchise operations. This home is in a unique position where it offers beautiful lake rights but is also situated very close to The Shoppes at Farmington Valley, coffee shops, dining, and the town’s still thriving Italian American Club. Enjoy your stay in a neighborhood where you are truly able to enjoy serene lake house living as well as centrality!
