The Lighthouse was a perfect home base for our Costa Rican vacation. The view from the house is second to none, absolutely beautiful. The hosts were great to work with. We were able to arrange massages and chef services through them and everything was great. The kids loved the pool and the house was very comfortable. House is walking distance to both Ocotal beach and Gringo beach both are great. There is a bodega just down the hill which is great for supplies and Father Roosters restraunt is right down the hill by the beach.
We stayed from Aug31-Sept7 2019. We looked forward to this trip all summer and were not disappointed. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this place to anyone. The views are spectacular and the property exactly what we expected.
We stayed with another couple at Lighthouse Ocotal for two weeks in February 2024. There were many wonderful aspects of our stay. The views atop a cliff overlooking the Pacific were magnificent with even more dramatic views from the lighthouse. We enjoyed many an afternoon floating in the small but enjoyable infinity pool and relaxing in the comfortable furniture under a canopied roof. It was convenient to the beach, Father Roosters, and El Coco, a town with many delicious restaurants. It was convenient for exploring northern Costa Rica. It was a perfect size for two couples with two master suites, both with views of the ocean. We were pleased with the chef who prepared very good dinners and scrumptious desserts. The hosts, Julia and Maxim, were attentive to our needs and the included every other day cleaning was an added bonus. There were a few drawbacks including an incredibly steep driveway entrance, difficult to find in the dark because of a lack of signage. The kitchen was inadequate: the dishwasher didnât clean the dishes, there was no icemaker, and there were very few dishes. The living room furniture was uncomfortable, the dining room chairs unsteady, and laundry facilities dirty. Since there were no beach chairs, as advertised, we purchased them â being in our eighties, sitting on the sand just didnât work. We hope the owner considers making a few changes, because all-in-all we had a most enjoyable stay at the Lighthouse Ocotal.
A long day of travel culminated in a driveway climb that was near vertical. After reaching the top we opened the first of two security doors only to find Julia awaiting with a smile. She welcomed us to Costa Rica and her property with a plate of fresh fruit and some much needed beers.
Immediately upon entering the villa, our travel party was speechless with the views from the living room, covered porch, infinity pool and atop the lighthouse.
Kitchen is small but functional and definitely usable for a short stay. Rooms in the house were nice and worked perfect for our five who stayed in there. The Lighthouse is very cute and two of us stayed there. The bathroom on the first floor and the bedroom on the 2nd floor, so plan accordingly. The beds were very comfortable, Julia was a great host and we enjoyed our stay. Don't miss the sunset from the balcony!
We were three couples and 3 children and all enjoyed the lighthouse and hosts were very responsive with any of our questions and suggestions for our stay. The one suggestion I would have is to update the kitchen, although it was very functional. Also note that one of the bedrooms in the house is very small, itâs the one with the single full size bed. Having said that, this didnât impact our stay as we had an excellent vacation at the property.
This was an amazing property - you cannot beat the view from the lighthouse and infinity pool overlooking the Ocotal beach.
The owners are nearby and always responded quick to any questions. I highly recommend follow their advices - the yachts and this less-public beaches were outstanding!
It is truly a unique place with a separate lighthouse living area, very comfortable beds, great showers and an infinity pool. The hosts were very welcoming and responsive to any questions we had.
