Constructed in 1910, Grandmotherâs House is a historic craftsman style home that was built by the Murphy family (also known as Murphyâs Oil). It is a 2700 plus square foot 2 story stucco home that has withstood the test of time with grace and style. It has been lovingly given new life, and we are happy to share it for many to enjoy.
It sits on Pecan street across and on the same corner from our other listings âThe Pecan House', 'The Boho House', âThe White Houseâ and 'The Little House on Pecan.
Two blocks and around the corner is also our home 'The Hickory Hill Houseâ.
Grandmotherâs House sits in the culturally and
socioeconomically diverse historic downtown lot and block neighborhood of Texarkana, Arkansas, just blocks from the Texas and Arkansas state line. Multiple restaurants 1 to 4 miles away. It is just a few blocks to the downtown historic and entertainment district. Approximately 2 miles south from 130.
Step back in time with a stay at Grandmotherâs House. It has been decorated with many antique and vintage items collected from the families associated with Pecan Properties. Many of the items came from our own grandmothersâ homes. We hope that everyone staying here recognizes something they remember from their own past whether it be from their childhood at their grandparentsâ home or other friend or familyâs residence. The goal was to create a unique space with a sense of nostalgia. We hope that every decade from the 20th century is represented here but with the ultimate result of a home that is inviting and comfortable. Grandmotherâs House has many spacious rooms, a large yard (not fenced), and a phenomenal front porch that has approximately 850 square feet of space with tables, chairs, and rockers.
Inside, the home has two living areas. A fireplace in the formal living area with electric logs can be used with or without heat. There is a square grand piano (non working at this time) and an ELECTRIFIED pump organ that is working in the formal space. Both musical instruments are from the 1800âs. The casual living area has a 50 inch Roku TV with an electric fireplace as well. The home has been converted to all electric. NO gas appliances or heat in home.
There is a formal dining area and a full kitchen with breakfast area. Two large bedrooms are downstairs. One has King bed and the other has a queen bed with day bed and trundle. Both bedrooms have 40 inch Roku TVâs. On the back sunporch, there is a front load washer and dryer and also a daybed with trundle. There are two full baths downstairs. One has a bathtub without shower and the other has a shower but no bathtub.
Upstairs, is approximately 700 square feet of open space. There is a queen bed and three full beds upstairs. Full bathroom with tub/shower combo and a 50 inch TV mounted over an electric fireplace.
All TVâs are Roku smart TVâs. There is NO cable or satellite. High speed FIBEROPTIC internet provided. There is covered parking for one vehicle. Another vehicle can be parked off-street behind the covered vehicle. Otherwise, there is plenty of curbside parking in the front and side of this home. We own the houses on all four corners of this intersection.
There is a carriage house behind Grandmotherâs House. Renovation is starting soon (6/2024), and it will also be listed in the coming months. Any renovation there should not negatively impact any guestsâ experience at Grandmotherâs House. There is a separate driveway for the carriage house. The two houses share four city lots of yard space.
