The Augustus Cottage is a perfect couples getaway and is conveniently located just a short distance from Lowell's Cove, on Orr's Island. An adorable cottage with picturesque ocean views from most rooms.

The cottage features 2 bedrooms, and one bath. Upon entering the home, you are greeted by a cozy, sunlit dining area, adjacent to a galley-style kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing your own meals, with new appliances, cookware, lobster pot, and is also where the stacked washer/dryer are situated. You can also choose to head to the cute outdoor yard space, enclosed by a custom built stone wall, where you can light up the outdoor grill as well as the lobster cooker for the traditional Maine experience! Be sure to pick some fresh lobsters up from our locals!

Just down the hall you will find the roomy living area, which presents attractive exposed beams along with an expansive bay window facing the ocean. A perfect spot for relaxing after a day of exploring our coastal town! You can choose to enjoy playing games, streaming on the TV, and planning your next adventure! On the second level, you will find the 2 bedrooms, both of which are spacious, and each furnished with a Queen size bed. Please note, one of the bedrooms is loft style, and does not have its own door, while the other bedroom does include a door for privacy. Parking for one vehicle only.

Harpswell is a unique working waterfront mid coast Maine town, with many hiking trails, beach areas, great restaurants, little shops, and breath-taking views throughout. Conveniently located close to Brunswick, Freeport, Bath, Phippsburg and more. Harpswell is conveniently located 20 minutes from Brunswick, take the train from there and travel the Maine coast. Brunswick is also home to Bowdoin College, which offers the Maine State Music Theatre, with superb productions, and museums to enjoy ! Close to Portland, and Freeport, home of LL Bean, many outlet shops, and restaurants. Driving distance to Popham Beach...the most spectacular stretch of sandy beach in Maine, along with historical forts to explore. Bath, Phippsburg, Boothbay Harbor, and Bar Harbor all all great day trips! So many sights to see in and around Harpswell ! Proudly managed by Maine Coastal Connections, Harpswell, Maine.

Orrs Island Gem

A great place to stay and soak in the Maine coast atmosphere. Very comfortable. Terrific host. Perfect for visiting Bowdoin as we did for a reunion. Will definitely be back.

We had a great stay at Augustus Cottage. Cheri’s communication was excellent, and the homeowners next door were kind and welcoming. The cottage was exactly as advertised – very clean, neat, comfortable, and well appointed with new appliances and a smart TV. Everything worked perfectly.The location was fantastic. Nice neighborhood, and the small beach at Lowell’s Cove, just a short walk down the road, was perfect for exploring at low tide. There’s also a small hiking area with another beach right across the street – both were great to enjoy before heading out on our daily activities. From the cottage, it’s easy to explore Orr’s and Bailey Islands or quickly get into Brunswick. So much to do. Note that if you have two vehicles (or even a visitor) things could get a bit complicated, as there is truly only space for 1 vehicle. However, for a small family with one vehicle, this was perfect.Overall, we loved our stay and would happily return to this cottage!

Great community

We really loved our days on and around Orr's Island. We enjoyed talking with lots of year-round and seasonal residents on both Orr's and neighboring Bailey Island. The house was very comfortable. Highlights nearby are the candy and ice cream shop just about a quarter-mile away, with homemade fudge etc.; and All Saints' Episcopal Church, a beautiful holy space that is opened for visitors some weekdays, with its amazing woodwork and nautical-themed stained-glass windows (and friendly people too--after going in on Thursday we went back for the service on Sunday). The church is even closer to the house than the candy store. And closest of all, the house's description doesn't call attention to something it should: a postcard-type view over Beal's Cove from the park that is literally just across the street, where you can also walk down to the shore of that cove to 100 yards or so of gravel beach (at low tide). This is the next cove over from the one that can be seen down the hill from some of the windows in the pictures.

Our base of operations

The house was very clean and neat, all the modern conveniences one would want, generally very comfortable. We have stayed in this neighborhood before and know some of its attractions (the cove, nearby ice cream place, nice hike just across the main road), but mostly used it as a base of operations while visiting other family elsewhere in Harpswell. It suited our purposes perfectly. Prospective renters should know: the house is advertised as having two bedrooms--which is true--but the owners don't want more than two people staying there. We found that confusing enough that we assumed we could have a third guest stay with us in the second bedroom. The hosts were kind enough to accommodate us, but made it clear they were a bit put out. Part of this had to do with there really being room in the driveway for one car. We appreciated the owners' flexibility and it all worked out well for us.

It does note a two-person maximum and parking for one vehicle. While the home has two bedrooms, the second is intended to offer extra space or flexibility— not for additional guests. That said, we’re glad it all worked out and appreciate your understanding during your stay.
