Secluded, great views, fireflies and walking stick insects!
Our family grew up in the Rockies and enjoy alpine camping, but getting back there from Texas doesn't happen very often. In trying to escape the triple digit weather and get some elevation we came across PKC so thought we would try it. The weather was about 20 degrees cooler which was a wonderful respite. The location was as secluded as advertised. Our family has T-Mobile cell service and we were only able to get a single bar in certain corners of the deck and house, which was perfect! (Evidently AT&T works much better, but we didn't mind communicating by text at all.)
There were nature hikes aplenty, beautiful nature drives nearby, and lots of unique insects we loved inspecting. (Ticks, not so much.)
The owners invited us to the local Independence Day Celebration and it was the best community-felt, grandest party and celebration in which we had participated for decades.
Highly recommended!!
My parents stayed at the cabin and loved it !! They were so comfortable and enjoyed the small details thought of throughout the cabin! I canât wait to go back up with my husband ! Wonderful experience!
Like all of the reviews I read before I stayed, Iâll echo that all the details were taken care of. Very nice!
A few things that were important to us:
1. Comfortable beds
2. Hot water, enough pressure for 5 people
3. Lots of pans/kitchen equipment
4. Full size fridge and dishwasher
5. Gorgeous deck
6. Mostly private, other cabins within sight but we never heard anyone else. Others âmayâ have heard our kids nighttime chants and laughing around the fire.
Wonderful trip! Thanks again!
will talk to when you are sitting on that deck. The wind and the trees will dance in front of your eyes and whisper in your ears. Words can't possibly do the sunset justice - I'll just say that watching the sunset from there made me want to learn how to paint. If you decide you actually want to leave the deck to eat or sleep, you will find an exceptionally clean and gorgeous cabin. We look forward to returning.
Loved this cabin. Loved arrival welcome. Super clean. Has all you need except shampoo and creme rinse. Lots of nice towels, full kitchen, and much more. Amazing view. Owners are easy to work with to register. When arrived cold and rainy first 2 days. Still wonderful as comfortable in the cabin - not just outside or on deck. Note that there is no internet or TV. However I could listen to news through my Sirius app and watch NewsMax on my phone app to see what is going on. Love to read. Brought my pug and we walked. I did not take trail very far down as recovering from recent foot surgery but trail was very nicely made. Just loved my stay. We will be back.
We enjoyed our stay during our week of Thanksgiving. The cabin was warm and cozy during the cool weather. The PK walking trail is a nice 45 minute moderately challenging walk/hike. Iâm sure itâs beautiful in the Spring and Summer. Sunsets are quite nice from the roomy deck. Patrice assisted us when our phone service was not working by letting us make a quick phone call. Really appreciated that. Highly recommend.
Very comfortable cabin, tastefully decorated , with a homey appeal. Located on very spacious and scenic property, with beautiful views off the deck and an isolated feel. Equipped with everything needed, especially in the kitchen. Great location for hiking around the Ouachita National Forest, as well as on shorter local trails.
We stayed at the Sunset cabin in late July. Two couples, two kids 5 and under and a 15 year old. It was a great long weekend get away to disconnect. It was a little crowed for our group, but we knew that going in. The kids slept on the floor and the adults got the two beds. At first the kids were complaining about not having TV etc, but soon they were playing and enjoying the outdoors.
The cabin was very clean and had everything we could need. Nice inside and out. Even though it was in the high 90s our whole trip we spent almost the entire time out on the deck. Itâs is covered with trees to provide good shade from the sun while enjoying the view.
We took a walk on the mile loop trail in the morning. It has some nice views and we saw a couple deer. We also found a spot a few miles down the road where the kids were able to play in the water one afternoon.
We all had and amazing time in the this peaceful get away. The only problem is, now my wife wants a cabin in the mountains too. Lol. OK thatâs not really a problem
My husband and I brought our three kids, ages 6-10. We enjoyed hiking around the knob, without having to drive anywhere and hanging out at the cabin. Mornings on the deck were so nice, as was evenings by the fire pit. It is pretty far from everything, so I feel like we could have fit in more activities and maybe done some swimming if weâd stayed closer to a town. But we couldnât have found a better place to hang out. There is another cabin, and the main residence nearby, but it still felt secluded. Weâd definitely stay here again.
This little property is amazing! The view is divine, and it has pretty much everything you could need! The first full day I was there, I literally stood on the porch all day and took in the view. The kitchen is well stocked, with all the tools and utensils you could need. I definitely recommend taking the scenic drive into Mena, AR when you go get groceries. Plenty of towels, too! My only suggestions would be to replace a couple of rotten boards on the deck, and a larger bed with better quality sheets would be nice. My partner and I are 5'10" and 6'4" and we were spilling out of the double bed. That said, I really love this place and we already are planning a return trip later this year!
