We are sorry that anyone did not have a positive experience at our rental. However, for our returning and future guests, we cannot allow damage at our house and not keep a portion of the security deposit. As presented below, we believe that this is the real reason for the negative review. Our guests left a note after their stay indicating they had damaged the door. We observed the damage and concluded that the door needed to be replaced. We kept a portion of the security deposit to replace the door. Our guest disputed this and opened a case with VRBO/Homeaway. After we presented a summary and pictures to VRBO/Homeaway, they agreed that our keeping the security deposit was justified and closed the case. Not surprisingly, this exchange with our guests was not mentioned in the review. Regarding the slider, it was an issue that we noted and had made known to our guest. A part needed to be ordered to complete the repair which we fixed as soon as we had the part. The air conditioning system cools off the house in just a few minutes and adequately supplies air throughout the entire house. We have rented the house for three years and never previously had a complaint about it. We are not sure why our guest had an issue with the vacuum as we have used it several times since their stay and it worked fine. Lastly, we would prefer not to do extensive cleaning of the house after our guests stay. Our contract states that a cleaning fee will be charged if the house is not left in the same condition that it was left in when the guest arrived. As such, any cleaning that we need to do would theoretically allow for us to keep the cleaning fee. However, we will do some limited cleaning and still return the cleaning fee. In a few instances, we have had some guests that do not clean adequately where we have had to do extensive cleaning and not returned the fee. We believe that it is reasonable that we keep the fee if we spend more than 2 hours cleaning.
