Lynnâs cottage in Wanakena is walking distance from multiple trailheads and boat launches. You do not have to drive to have outdoor fun here. The cottage is well kept, the beds are comfy and the kitchen is great for cooking. We went hiking all around Wanakena, saw some gorgeous waterfalls, went canoeing on the Floodwood Pond in Saranac Lake, made some campfires in the fire pit. Great trip all around, weâd definitely book Lynnâs cottage again!
Clean Cozy cabin, Fully Equipped, Close enough to people, Far away from the hubbub
Within the first few moments, we knew that we were right at home in this Wanakena home. The big grocery stores and take-out windows are not nearby, so we brought our own food. I baked a birthday cake, we fried steaks, made Chinese food, cooked eggs, made cookies -- everything we needed for preparation was all there. Also important was the high-speed Internet which I used to attend a choir rehearsal and to keep connected while getting the change of scenery. Many interesting things to do and see right in the home, which was useful on the one day where rain kept us inside. Plenty to do around the hamlet, too. Lynn and Terry were communicative and responsive hosts and it just couldn't have been better. My highest recommendation!
It's a great location, walking distance to kayak launching, a small store, and a level 2 EV charging station. The cottage is nice and has two nice porches, one of which is glassed in for 3 seasons. We used the supplied kayaks in 3 different days. There is a restaurant close by but no full grocery store. We brought groceries from home.
Like the rest of the Wanakena-ites Lynn is welcoming, warm without being intrusive, and eager to inform about the wonderful variety of pleasures in such a tiny place. The house is just like the town. Authentic and homey comfort with enough of what we needed and no annoying excesses or showy frills. Our only complaint is we have to wait until next year to sit in the most comfortable chair we have ever sat it. The new Wanakena history museum is across the street. Lyn and the other people in town gave us the feeling we were honorary citizens of Wanskena for a week without any of the responsibilities. Enjoy.
Wanakena is the epitomization of an Adirondack village. It's quaint and quiet trafficked by friendly locals, hikers, mountain bikers, kayakers, fishermen and just plain nice people.
The house itself is homey and Adirondacky. We walked every day or night to swim in the Oswagotchie after exploring.
The area is short on restaurants, but the house is equipped with a nice kitchen so I was happy to cook and save a few bucks by eating in.
The location is right on the Cranberry50 trail. Perfect kayaking is around every corner. And the chance of seeing wildlife is really high. What a great trip.
This property was beautifully cared for and offered so many extras, like a turntable and records, clean surroundings, books, walking sticks and Adirondack furnishings that we remembered so well. When our daughter and granddaughter stayed overnight, they enjoyed staying in that house. My memories abounded. Met great new friends and connected with old friends. Thank you so much!
We had a wonderful weeklong stay in this cozy little cabin. It has everything you need for a nice stay in Wanakena. The front porch was a favorite spot to hang out; the Adirondack chairs are so comfortable and the breeze was delightful. We also had fun exploring the historical pictures and books. The kitchen has everything you might need to cook a full meal, the beds are comfortable, and it was very handy to have a washer and dryer.
My family stayed at this wonderful cottage for an amazing week. The house is beautiful, homey, well equipped--in short, exactly what we were looking for on a vacation where we both relaxing at the house and going on day trips. At the house, we cooked and read inside and on the amazing porch. We went on easy day trips to historic sites (John Brown farm, Wilder farm), nature activities (Wild Center, Wanakena walking trail (many other trails around) and the Lake Placid Olympic activities.
Lynn was incredibly helpful throughout the process--offering information and welcoming questions. If you are looking for an Adirondack retreat, this felt like a home away from home. Thank you, Lynn and family for providing the house for a great vacation!
We spent a wonderful week in this historic house in Wanakena. The house is clean, comfortable, and inviting - from the screen porch with Adirondak chairs and rockers, to plush and comfy living room chairs, to the open kitchen with breakfast bar, to the excellent bed. We enjoyed exploring the lakes of the Northern Adirondaks in our canoe. We had good meals at the Pine Cone in Wanakena, the Stone Manor in Cranberry Lake, and the Main Street Cafe in Tupperware Lake, and cooked at the house a lot. The kayaks are such a delightful addition, and meandering on the river was relaxing and beautiful . It was also nice not to have the Internet and cell phone for an extra sense of a true getaway. There is a great selection of dvd movies to watch, and a good collection of games as well. Lynn provided details ahead of time, and enthusiastically gave recommendations in response to my questions. We definitely recommend staying here.
We are a family of four with two daughters ages 28 and 23. We were introduced to Wanakena in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the timeless feel, history and beauty of the Adirondack State Park. We believe in leaving every site we visit with no trace that we were ever there. We are from Maryland and spend much of our time thinking about our next trip to Wanakena!
There is just no place like Wanakena. It feels like you step back in time to a slower pace. We love the hiking trails within walking distance, as well as the public beach for swimming in the fresh water of the Oswegatchie River. It is a very friendly place and you just feel like you have come home and always belonged there.
Our property feels like history. It is conducive for spending time together and playing records on the record player and playing games. It is a calming, quiet place which will bring you serenity while you experience a small town feel.
