We absolutely loved the lodge. It was so cozy, the views from the great room were beautiful, and the property was amazing. Communication with the owner was fantastic. We look forward to making this a regular getaway.
My husband and I enjoyed 3 nights in the cabin with our 2 sons (6 and 9). The boys loved playing in the stream behind the house. At night we sat by the fire and made s'mores and mountain pies. We took a trip to Seven Springs for the day. The Alpine Slide was tons of fun!
There are so many great things about this cabin. It is super cute, roomy, and settled in a beautiful location. The kitchen is properly appointed and the caretaker, Lee, is attentive.
However, the beds and couches are not superbly comfortable, and the shower is quite weak and sometimes wobbles between hot and cold. Further, the cabin rests on a busy highway, so it is not as rustic and tucked away as we had hoped.
We immensely enjoyed the hike/walk from the property to Kooser Lake and appreciated the cozy cottage feel of the cabin. Even with the few downsides of this cabin, we would stay again as it really is lovely.
Absolutely Beautiful Cabin in the Perfect Surroundings
Bottom Line The âGreat Roomâ is worth the stay in itself.. Overlooking the Trout Stream, we were able to watch deer drink from the creek and raccoons play in the waters edge.. ALL from the Living Room.. The best summary of the Trip came from my wife who said, â It felt Like we were living in a Tree Houseâ
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The main room with three-sided windows, gas stove, and pull out couch with queen foam mattress was wonderful. The kitchen was well equipped, but would have been nice to have instructions for operating the stove (older model). Consider adding more back up batteries for gas stove remote (they were all dead). Great access and view of creek, trails, and fire pit with dry wood. Nice large bathroom and laundry washer and drier worked great. The noise from the main road was noticeable, and only a concern if youâre looking for complete quiet. Would definitely come back b/c of the great main room and access to trails and creek!
We have used VRBO dozens of times and this is the first time I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction. Upon arrival, we opened the front door to a strong smell of must or mildew. That small permeated the entire cottage, the furniture and our clothes. We enjoy vintage cottages and look forward to how they are preserved and restored. This one shows little skill in the efforts given the uneven floors and doors, eight different heaters required to heat the place, and generally a lack of concern about the finished work. We booked the cottage for two nights but left early in the morning after the first night to seek out other accommodations. We love the country and we love rustic cottages. This was not the case. We are not looking for a refund. We will simply be more careful not to pay total attention to the photos or the narratives, because in this case, all the pictures on the wall touting the age and history of this cottage were not well served by the current appearance, workmanship, or amenities.
We absolutely loved this cabin. We spent a lot of time in the great room looking over the creek as the snow came down. We made Thanksgiving dinner and played board games. Truly a charming Thanksgiving.
We loved the cottage, stream, bridges, woods, etc. The property is really beautiful and itâs obvious much love and care has been put into it, including many tasteful and charming touches. The proximity to the road and pretty loud trucks going by often are absolutely the only negatives to note. Thanks for a wonderful getaway!
Dave was very helpful and responded very quickly to any questions we had. The pictures don't do the property justice. The cottage was so cozy, well maintained and clean.
The beautiful scenery was magical. We sat at the fire pit and listened to the stream. There was plenty of firewood. We cooked on the grill, made mountain pies and toasted marshmallows on the open fire.
The Laurel Mountian Inn is right next door. We met friends there for lunch and the food was excellent (don't know why the reviews on Yelp were bad)
I would have given the Sylvania 5+ stars if it weren't for having to go down steps to get to the back of the property, which made it a little difficult to prepare your food on the grill, and it is on the highway but was not that noisy.
We loved the Sylvania, and David was great to deal with. We will definately stay ther again!
Walking in to the property was like coming home. I absolutely love every single thing about the cabin. The very few things that caused this to not be a perfect location have little to do with the property itself. Everything that you need to enjoy your stay is in the cabin, bring food, your personal essentials and a good book and you're set. The pictures do not really do the site justice. The fire pit and stream behind the cabin walk the line of magical.
One concern is the noise - the road is very close and the dump trucks that drive by are apparently trying to escape the invisible bats from hell that must be chasing them. This is no fault of the cabin, but if you are looking for absolute silence this will not happen here. The only other concern was the beds - which is a losing situation no matter what. It is almost impossible to find a comfortable bed outside of your own, but the sleep number bed is filled with air and when my husband, who is a bit larger than me, would get in to the bed the air would blast over to my side and either knock the wind out of me because it was like being punched in the diaphragm or if I was on my back it would sort of shoot me upward which when you're sleeping feels like you're being launched in to space. So whoever is bigger just needs to get into bed slowly.
Dave was a fantastic host and went out of his way to answer questions quickly and help us out with a concern. This is a great property and a wonderful place to spend time with whomever will bring you happiness. Thank you Dave!!!
This is a landmark property in the area. The location by the stream among laurels and Hemlock is wonderful any time of the year. The cottage blends into this setting beautifully.
