Great location!

We had a great time in Wilmington. Mary and Michael were very responsive and gave us great ideas for things to do in the area. There home is located in a very pleasant spot and we had privacy. Lake Placid was only 25 minutes away and we enjoyed visiting the Olympic sights and Whiteface mountain. Their home is cozy and had enough beds for all of us - family of six. Would definitely stay there again.

Clean, Cozy & Close to Whiteface

We had a great stay at this property! Plenty of kitchen gadgets, towels & linens, and space to unwind after a day of riding at Whiteface Mtn. I loved that there were labels for the light switches and for the drawers so we knew what was inside and where to look. The property manager was great and easy to communicate with. We would definitely stay here again!

Comfortable, easy to find, well supplied kitchen, several new appliances, comfortable beds with crisp/clean sheets, Good tv reception and many gaming programs available.Excellent price per day.Owner was easy to contact and always returned my phone calls. Mr Dowd, owner, was more than accommodating and a pleasure to speak with. He went out of his way to assist me when I needed held due to a sudden illness.I highly recommend his renal property.

Great bang for the buck and very enjoyable!

I walked into this house after staying in small cottages and fell in love with this kitchen. Finally! A good sized kitchen! Except doing dishes in that tiny sink was hard. The door didn’t shut all the way to the bathroom. Probably swelling from the humidity. We made it work. The shower is a little ridiculous - so tiny! But it DID work fine and it cleaned us after a day of hiking! There was also an odd smell, particularly upstairs, like my Grandma’s old apartment building. The air system cooled things off beautifully and was not loud at all - I was impressed! Was this house perfect, no. But it was a very good size overall, our family of five got to spread out a little, we all fit in the kitchen, the kids loved the Nintendo system, and we had a great time! The location was pretty stellar. I mean, ADK park is so huge there is no centralized location. We hiked Buck mountain on our way in from Vermont, then hiked Baker and Baxter while in the area. Plenty of other great hikes we could have done nearby too. I would recommend the house to others.

Becky, thank you so much for leaving a thorough, thoughtful review. The sink is also smaller than we had planned as well. We got the wrong part delivered to us when we were doing renovations, and were not able to get a replacement in time for our next guest. So we are getting that swapped out for a bigger sink as soon as there's a break in the schedule, rather than having a guest without a sink. Also, when we redid the floor in the bathroom, we realized the washing machine moves slightly when its running because it is a smoother, newer floor. So we've realized the trick is to pull the washer a *tiny* bit towards the sink, and then the door shuts. If the door was stuck in the jam, you are right that it may have been humidity. It also may have been compounded when we put new supports under that part of the house when we re-did the floor in the main kitchen area. I will have our contractor look at it and see if we can't shave it down some. I think many of us have had some hiccoughs during renovations, and discovering issues during the logistical challenges of 2020-2021 were a high hurdle. That said, I'm glad you pointed them out, and we are working to resolve them as the schedule permits. Other than that, we're glad you had a great time. We love it up there and love sharing it as well. Feel free to come back and visit the Adirondacks with us again!

Peaceful Mountain Retreat

We stayed at the property over Columbus Day weekend. It was just what we were looking for to get away and climb the high peaks. The upstairs worked out nice where the kids (teens)had their own space. The downstairs was very spacious. Has everything you need if you want to cook/grill there. Very clean! There's a store right around the corner if you need anything. Hiking trails everywhere. Whiteface/Esther mountain trailhead just a couple minutes up the road. Breathtaking views around every corner. Nearby restaurants in town and in Lake Placid. Due to covid and restaurant limitations we ordered take out a few times and just brought it back. Had a campfire and gazed at the millions of stars. Another great memory in the books. We will be back! Thanks for having us!

Great place to stay in downtown Wilmington

We loved our stay at this house. It was very comfortable and spacious at the main floor. The upstairs is not very tall, but we only used it to sleep. The 2 living rooms made it easy to have friends coming over for the holidays with their kids, and we all had great time. We will definitely return. Thank you!

Spacious, everything we needed (well, except a toaster), three fridges! Well thought-out. Appreciated little touches like: bedside lamps, helpful hand-written notes. Would have liked an awning over the veranda. It was very hot during our stay! Love that it looks like an old-fashioned summer camp. Practical and comfortable.

We really enjoyed our family vacations! It was our 2nd time staying in Dowd's house. The house had everthing we needed, well eqipped and very comfortable. Close to mountain

Clean and close to mountain. The kitchen had basics but coffee maker leaked. Has gas grill but was broken. 4 separate beds was good for guys weekend. Get your groceries in Lake Placid, not much in Wilmington. The $1,500 deposit was pretty steep compare to other places I have rented. Overall, it worked well for our trip.

Get Away with My Three Sons

Awesome cabin, great location!

This is a great cabin that is very close to Whiteface mountain. The cabin was very roomy, well stocked and very clean. I was up for the Wilmington Whiteface MTB race and this is a great home base for that event as well as any of the other biking events in the summer. The cabin has easy access to for both road and mountain bike racers to train and prepare for events. The owners were very easy to communicate with and provided quick response with any questions. I will definitely choose this place again next year.

This recently fully updated camp has been our family's Adirondack home-away-from-home for four generations. Our grandfather grew up in the area, and wanted to share the beauty of Adirondacks with his grandchildren. In the same spirit that he shared this camp and the Adirondacks with all of us, we look forward to sharing it with you for your vacation.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

We have so many wonderful memories of time spent here with our family. It is a playground for all ages in all year round. And our location made for a quick trip to whatever was the day’s preferred activity.

In any season there is hiking to be found for all ages and levels of expertise from the trails around Lake Placid, to the challenge of the 46 High Peaks.

In summer our parents would make a picnic lunch and we would all go spend the day at Mirror Lake Beach swimming and sunning and playing in the sand or some catch-and-release fishing. We would sometimes finish up with a walk through town for ice-cream or a nice dinner at one of the wonderful restaurants.

In the Winter we would wake up in the dark to pack everyone in the car so we could be the first on the slopes at Whiteface. Or if we wanted to sleep in there were trips to Lake Placid for a trip across Mirror Lake on a dog sled, or the thrill of flying down the toboggan slide and out over the frozen water. Always followed by hot chocolate and cozy chats at home with the people you love.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

We hope to offer small groups and families the chance to find the same enjoyment that we have received from visiting the Adirondacks for generations. The house has an open-plan area for dining and communing, but private areas as well for rest and relaxation apart from the group. We offer a lot of value for reasonable rates at our cozy home, because we think people can enjoy the outside without losing modern amenities inside.
