Chartering with Joe and Carol over a larger commercial company was by far the right decision for me and my family.
Their years of experience leads to the stops at best areas all over the islands. They have a knowledgeable and vested interest in creating an exciting but safe, relaxing experience.
Carol goes above all expectations in her seemingly tireless service of her meals and refreshments
We had an amazing time on our BVI adventure with Joe and Carol. They were flexible and very accommodating with our aggressive itinerary and all that we wanted to see. Ten days went by extremely fast for all 8 of us! We had plenty of room on the 44 foot Sea of Love, the cabins were spacious and we each had our own head. Joe and Carol were wonderful hosts. While Capt. Joe took care in making sure we had the best locations for moorings, anchorages and snorkeling spots, Carol insured that none would go hungry or thirsty, even accommodating our individual likes and dislikes. The food she prepared was phenomenal, above and beyond our expectations. We are already missing her morning coffee and fresh, local fruit. Each meal was delicious, and happy hour snacks were divine. I thought about passing on nightly dessert but that didnât last long.
Their local knowledge and island connections were priceless as well. We learned a lot about the islands we passed as well as the ones we stopped at. We felt like royalty when dining ashore because we got the best seats in the house.
If you are considering your own Caribbean adventure, this would be the one to choose. Some of us had only been on cruise ships, now I donât think they will ever go back to sharing such a big boat and not having personal say in where to go or what to do. Others were a little weary at first, as we were accustomed to taking care of ourselves, but what a treat not to plan meals, do dishes or worry about the timing of arrivals and departures. Thanks again for such a memorable trip, canât wait to do it again!
My husband and I, along with 3 other couples just finished our week aboard the Sea of Love. My intention is to write a fair and honest review about our experience.
First, Iâd like to talk about the boatâŠ.
The accommodations aboard the Sea of Love were exactly what we were expecting. The 4 main cabins each had their own bathroom. The pictures clearly represented what the sleeping berths looked like. One of our friends is 6â9â tall and he had no problem sleeping :-)
There is limited âhanging outâ areas⊠you are either sitting around the table in the stern or on the bench and hammock on the bow. The bow was the perfect spot for stargazing in the evenings!
The foodâŠ
Carol is an amazing cook and hostess. She goes out of her way to do her best to accommodate everyoneâs unique preferences. We promise you will not be hungry. We also had plenty of ice, drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic in a variety of choices. I brought my own hydration powder to add to the water as the hot Caribbean sun can lead to dehydration if you are not careful. The boat had water bottles for everyone to use. I brought my own HydroFlask. I recommend this as the ones on board are not the stainless steel insulated type.
The activitiesâŠ
The boat comes provisioned with snorkeling gear, paddle boards, float noodles, a kayak, and games. We took advantage of all of these.
The SailingâŠ
Joe and Carol have a plethora of local knowledge. They knew all the best spots to take us to!
What would have been helpfulâŠ
I wish we would have gotten a more thorough orientation to the boat. We had an issue with running out of water on the last night. I believe this could have been prevented with a little education about water conservation, especially with showering.
Final ThoughtsâŠ
I believe it is important to consider the personalities of the people you may be inviting to join you. You are sharing a very small space and negative energy can definitely impact the vibe onboard. I strongly encourage you to interview Carol and Joe before you book to make sure your personalities jive with theirs. Joe and Carol have been doing this for a long time and especially Joe had some specific ideas about how things should be done. We learned about these ideas when we were doing it âwrongâ and at times his corrections made some of us uncomfortable.
Also, there was a suggested 10-20% tip at the end of the trip so keep this in mind as you are working on your budget.
An affordable and awesome adventure in the Islands!
We booked the boat with Carol and Joe for 7 days, and loved every minute of it! Carol took great care of us and the sailing was excellent. The boat is a little older and it is their home, so donât expect a pristine charter yacht. However, there are still plenty of luxuries, including some we didnât expect- like wifi, electric toilets and hot showers! There was plenty of room for the 4 of us to move about, gather, chill, etc. The best part about booking with Carol and Joe is that they have a ton of local knowledge and willingness to work with you on a flexible itinerary to meet all your wishes! They took us to all the best spots and got us in everywhere before the crowds. They worked hard to make us happy, entertained and comfortable. An awesome adventure in the BVI!
Great week on a Catamaran, excellent food and drink!
Excellent time aboard the Sea of Love! Joe provided an itinerary that covered all of the locations we wanted to see within the time frame and weather conditions. Carol is an excellent cook and host. We always had access to a large cooler for drinks and a basket of snacks. We were never hungry or thirsty.
There was a little miscommunication on our arrival on the ferry from Saint Thomas and their location for the start of the trip, but they had arranged transportation from dock to dock and it was all OK.
I wish the extra fees like the cruising permit ($4 per person per day) were included or disclosed in the listing.
Also, the indoor salon is their living space so plan on sleeping in your cabin, eating at the covered, outdoor salon and relaxing on the forward seating on the bridge deck or trampolines. That is-if you're not in the water! They provide snorkel gear and ample dinghy rides to shore if you like.
They request and provide plenty of information ahead of time. The Preference Sheet helps them provide a great experience for you and the FAQ's help you know what to expect. We had an active but relaxing time! Thank you Joe and Carol!
Had a great time on the Sea of Love! Joe and Carol were very accommodating. Carol made us fabulous meals and was always attentive to our needs. When high winds were an issue with the itinerary, they gave us great alternative beaches to visit. We would definitely love another opportunity on the Sea of Love.
Our family of 5 had an amazing trip aboard the Sea of Love with Carol and Joe! Of course there were some roadblocks with all the COVID restrictions but Joe was very helpful in helping us overcome and understand the rules around it and wow are we glad we did. The trip was everything we were hoping for and more. Carol to put it lightly is amazing. She took such amazing care of us and was a joy to be around. The food was amazing at every meal. She made everything fun for the kids, and the both accommodated anything we had in mind. The kids have already started asking when we can go back down to the BVI's with Carol and Joe and we're wondering the same. I couldn't imagine a better vacation that combines being in an amazing location, being close with family, being pampered and well cared for, and also the adventure that comes with sailing.

This was our first VRBO catamaran vacation. In the past we used brokers to locate catamarans that would meet our needs and preferences because we know we are a bit picky! đ We also complicated the booking process a few times due to the number of persons who committed to go and some had to drop out. Everything about Sea of Love was in good working order. The weather was a factor in enabling us to sail as often as we would have liked. A few of us had unusual diet requests which appeared to be effortlessly handled by our hostess, Carol. A home on a yacht is different when renting for a vacation because the owners are onboard with their personal belongings. Our rooms were adequate and typical of most catamarans. We were given unlimited access to the beverage cooler and snacks and Carol was always offering to prepare anything alcoholic. Captain Joe was very knowledgeable about the places to snorkel and where we would get the best experiences.
From the moment we stepped on the Sea of Love catamaran, we were treated like VIPâs! Captain Joe and Carol are the best, most hospitable hosts in the islands. Our week stay took us throughout the BVIâs, we were taken to some of the best locations; great snorkeling spots, fun bars/restaurants and unspoiled beaches with the most breathtaking views!
The catamaran had everything we needed for our stay, all 8 of us.
Chef Carol prepared amazing food for our breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner. Everything meal was a delight!
Coffee is perfect, lots of water to keep us hydrated in the Caribbean heat. The liquor, beer, wine provided was just exactly what we asked for.
I can truly say this was the best vacation of my life!
Cheers!
We had a wonderful time on the Sea of Love.. Joe and Carol worked hard to accommodate us with our schedules changing, they made certain we made all the best mooring spots. The food Carol prepared was fantastic and in abundance! Pretty sure I gained 20lbs last week!! Joe was a great captain, we so enjoyed the days we were able to sail!, and the islands we experienced were phenomenal!! Thank you so much to Joe and Carol for such a fabulous vacation and the memories we made!
My love of sailing the sea brought me to our boat. My desire to share with everyone its beauty, glory and infinite manifestations brought me to this sailing paradise. not just above the water but below the beautiful coral and fishlife. - Capt. Joe. I want to share my love of these beautiful islands with their crystal clear waters, spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I will prepare your meals with my favorite island flavors. Enjoy our Sea of Love cocktail of the day or your drink of choice while you sit back and relax after your fun filled day. - Chef Carol
We fell in love with this, our, boat. Its spaciousness easily accommodates 8 passengers. It was the first in a new generation of cats that had a design with a more boxy look from outside but this translated to a much greater average height inside, like 6 ft 9 in whereas the older cats while more sleek looking had much lower headroom inside especially the aft end of the boat. I can sail the boat myself while my wife, caters to the needs of our guests.
The easy access from our dingy off the stern has enabled many people challenged by their knees, hips or even a back injury who thought there would be a trying time getting in and out of the dingy to find it easily manageable. Of course we were always there to help.
