Historic Home With Parking, Next to Schiller Park
Willkommen! We look forward to hosting you in our charming spacious family-owned home. Built in 1886, it's filled with history, character & only footsteps from Schiller Park & all that our neighborhood has to offer. Clean sunny & welcoming w/ many rooms for guests to spread out. Includes desk stations w/ ethernet & wifi. Pet friendly! Enjoy a private backyard for happy hour(s). Free/easy parking, Lyft bike station, centrally located to downtown & much more. Digital guestbook: @germanvillagehouse
The space
Youâll find this clean, sunny and welcoming home comfortable and spacious. Spread out in the two very large bedrooms (one with a king, one with a full-size bunk bed set), a private office space with a futon and a convertible sleeper couch in the living room (with a sliding barndoor to offer privacy).
The family room contains a 65â TV, adaptable to your online subscriptions. We have voice-activated speakers for music in various rooms.
A sunny bath with huge soak tub, large waterfall shower and double sinks is upstairs, a half bath downstairs. The house also has an upstairs washer and dryer. Youâll find some travel-sized products underneath the sink should you forget something.
A lovely white & granite kitchen equipped with everything you need to cook and most importantly (to us) - coffee (Keurig, french press and drip pot). Be sure to enjoy the morning in the sunroom with a warm cup.
We have two office stations and a sunroom for those who like to work from âhomeâ. The upstairs desk is equipped with Ethernet and wifi throughout the home.
Please make use of our private backyard - on the brick patio we have outdoor couches, poofs, chairs, a dining table and twinkle lights to accompany your happy hour(s). Out front by the lavender bushes, you may see ducks walking by on their way back to the Schiller Park pond.
We started a digital guestbook on Instagam and welcome guests to send us photos (either messaged or tagged) from their experience: @germanvillagehouse
Guest access
Youâll have the entire house to yourself - including the closets, cabinets, dressers, backyard, etc. The basement and garage are not accessible.
Other things to note
We strived to make this home family-friendly so we have kidsâ toys in storage on-site as well as numerous childrenâs books. Weâve put outlet covers in most rooms to help curb curious toddlers. If you need anything else to make your stay more comfortable while traveling with littles, donât hesitate to reach out - we get it and are happy to help!
If you are interested in the history of my ancestors settling in German Village or the history of the family who owned this home for 100+ years, just let us know. Otherwise, Iâll include it in the welcome binder. As avid travelers and lovers of new experiences, youâll see our nod to traveling throughout the house. We are excited to host you and share our beautiful neighborhood and German culture!

Hi! I'm a communications professional who works from home and I immensely enjoy the benefits of WFH traveling. Having grown up in rural Ohio, I appreciate the beauty of countryside but fell in love with cityscape. I moved to Los Angeles after college, then spent years in downtown Chicago but found my way back to my home city: Columbus. I would describe myself as an urban culture-junkie, modern art lover, and amateur photographer; I enjoy music of all kinds, food, wine, coffee and I live for those experiences that broaden my perspectives and enrich my life.
When it comes to hosting, we are thrilled to host our German Village home. Built in 1886, our traditional German house is rich in history and character, truly only footsteps away from beautiful Schiller Park. We encourage walks in the brick-lined neighborhood - youâll find bookstores, pubs, coffeeshops, gardens and gorgeous historical homes along the way. Or grab the picnic basket in the kitchen and head out to Schiller Park with byo-refreshments (Shakespeare in the Park happens all summer long). Around the corner, there is a Lyft bike station, and down the street you can access the bike path which leads to downtown and beyond - a favorite way of ours to brewery hop.
If you are more interested in the history of my ancestors settling in German Village or the history of the family who owned this home for 100+ years, donât hesitate to reach out. As avid travelers and lovers of new experiences, youâll see our nod to traveling throughout the house.
Final note- as a city-dweller mama - I strived to make this home family-friendly so we have a pack and play, high chair, baby gate, kid toys in storage on-site as well as numerous childrenâs books. If you need anything else to make your stay more comfortable while traveling with littles, donât hesitate to reach out - we get it and are happy to help (we also love your fur babies and have several ourselves)!

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
This is our beautiful neighborhood! Historical and great for walking. The houses and gardens are beautiful. German Village runs from City Park (West) to Parsons (East), Livingston (North) to Thurman (South). 3rd Street has a collection of coffee spots, restaurants, chocolate shops etc.
Schiller Park is just steps away and perfect for walks, jogs, fishing, and bird-watching. Thereâs an outdoor performance stage where you can often watch a play (look up Shakespeare in the Park to learn more), a recreation center, benches, beautiful statues, outdoor art, a playground and more! The ducks are friendly and people (and their dogs) are friendlier.
During the summer months, there is a farmers' market on 3rd Street next to the St Marys Church on Saturdays. Once a month, there is a "makers mart" craft and food event just a half-block away at Thurman and City Park.
During the winter months, look into Village Lights - you'll feel like you're in a Hallmark Movie with lanterns, free hot chocolate and holiday-decorations on every brick-lined street! A walk through snowy Schiller Park is lovely, as well. We like to spend winter trying cozy new restaurants in the neighborhood and investing in the arts.
