Beautifully updated riverside 1840 cottage on the bourbon trail near Danville
Historical Haven is a unique cottage that will not disappoint. This renovated circa 1840 Dry Goods/General Store is located on Merchants Row in the historic town of Perryville, KY. Take a step back in time as you visit one of the only intact 19th-century mercantile districts in the nation. Enjoy a historical walking tour and do some shopping as you take in the scenery. With riverside views and a large deck itâs an ideal place to stay for a Bourbon Trail excursion, a visit to Centre College in Danville, attend a local wedding, to visit the many historic attractions in the surrounding area, or just relax and unwind . An ideal place for short and long term stays for tourists and business travelers alike. Please note both bedrooms are located upstairs (stairs are steep) and only bathroom is located downstairs. Due to steep nature of stairs, property may not be suitable for small children or individuals with difficult using steps.
The house was in a great location. I will say the split systems required to cool the bedrooms were very noisy. The other thing that I didn't realize is that the house is just open to the basement - there's no door. That may not bother some, but it was a little odd for me, coming from an area that doesn't even have basements.
A true historic gem in a beautiful area of Kentucky! The cottage is spacious, well appointed, and was immaculately clean on our arrival. We stayed five nights and enjoyed the property immensely. But what the website cannot convey is the sheer sense of history you experience by staying in this wonderful place. Merchants Row, where the cottage is situated, is largely unchanged from its 1840s origins. The house across the road had a cannonball through its window during the Civil War, another building was where the town doctor treated soldiers wounded in the nearby battle of Perryville in 1862 (the battlefield site just a few miles from town is well worth a visit). You can really soak in the history and ambience of that era here. I cannot rate this property, and our experience, highly enough. Jon is an outstanding host, knowledgeable and communicative, and if you are even just thinking about booking here, go ahead and do it. Everything simply exceeded our expectations.
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was very cute and clean. The town was amazing. I highly recommend the shops and mexican/pizza place. The hosts were very nice and communicated quickly. Would love to visit again.
This property provided us a unique place to call home during our initial bourbon trail experience. The history of the building as a store was a great talking point with friends and family. The unit was clean and met or exceeded our expectations. Although the stairs were a challenge, we navigated them without issue. Would definitely stay there again if in the area.
My sisters and I visited Perryville to explore the history associated with the Civil War. We fell in love with Kentucky. We even visited a nearby winery. Our accomodations were so very nice and comfortable. Our hosts answered all our questions promptly. We would love to revisit in the future and would definitely want to stay on Merchants Row.
I loved this charming house by the river! Canât get better than that. It worked so well for my visit back to attend funeral services nearby. Thank you very much.
The house is well kept and was convenient to check in and out of. The owners had thoughtful touches such as coffee and a few snack items available. The kitchen has all you would need for cooking a meal including full size, updated appliances. The beds were comfortable as was the living room.
We came for a wedding nearby and to celebrate my mother's Birthday. This property was excellent, great location with wonderful shops all within walking distance. The charm of the home was what made this a great stay. Perryville is a quaint community filled with wonderful people that is well worth a visit. No other property could offer the experience that we had.
We enjoyed our stay. It was a beautiful property and very accommodating for my family. Check process was very easy. The property is beautiful and clean and had extra items that A person might need. Thanks for the snacks and I love that they had extra towels and wash rags!!
My cousins came for my fatherâs memorial service and were so pleased with their stay - they want to come back and stay longer for a happier occasion! They loved the historical location as well. Highly recommend!
We have been to Perryville almost a half dozen times now and its the people and the town that keep us coming back. The owners did a great job on the update and we had everything we needed, right down to the Nesquick Chocolate milk mix.đ
I highly recommend a stay at the Historical Haven. The property has historical charm with all the amenties of home. Communication with the hosts was prompt and friendly. They went above and beyond with recommendations of things to do in the area. The town is charming, we enjoyed exploring local shops, restaurants, and participating in local events.
We really enjoyed the property. Very special location, lodging itself. Minor issue with keyless entry later at night, but owner responded immediately and quickly drove to the property. Will hopefully stay there again in the future.
We loved this place⊠from the moment we walked In to the beautiful decor and coziness galore..we were so impressed by all the little special touches.. personal greeting included!
The stone cellar was fascinating! The owners were friendly and responsive. We appreciated their extra details on history as well.
The deck and park like area out back was so nice.
The absolute only recommendation Iâd have would be adding a side lamp to tv room area.
Five star rating!
It was a great place in a great location. The cottage was clean and well maintained with all the connivences desired. The location was close to the Perryville Battleground and while I am not a big civil war buff the small visitors center was exceptional. The location is also well centered for scenic day road trips through the bluegrass and bourbon country. The host was very attentive. Highly recommended.
The place was just as pictured. It was a perfect size for me and my sister to meet up for the weekend. The shops right beside you were so friendly and welcoming. The steps upstairs were a bit of a challenge but we navigated them well. We used the grill for two of our meals. We also got a good start on a 1000 piece puzzle.
If we are staying in the area again we will be sure to look you up.
