The property was gorgeous and right by Playa Negra. The Host was great with communicating with us and very helpful. She even gave us options of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as things to do around and options for transportation. I would definitely stay here again!
Susan was an excellent hostâŠalways available for questions. She helped us navigate our stay which made it enjoyable and relaxing. The house located across the street from the beach which was magical.Highly recommend!
This home is very rustic. No TV, No AC, manual Washer. The bathroom is updated and the bedrooms were nice, both with king beds, one upstairs, one downstairs. That said, the location was just north of town, an easy 1 mile walk. We did not have a bad meal the entire month we were there. The beach across the street is a lovely black sand beach, although the water was a bit rough in January. We had a really nice trip and Susana was responsive with answers to questions and items that were needed in the house.
The house was spacious, comfortable, and clean. Susana is a great host and made sure the house was stocked! The sound of the surf lulled us to sleep each night. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Definitely, a great place to stay, relax and enjoy with friends or family. Excellent, properly manager, sweet, great communication and advice about the area and what to do. The beach is right in front of the property and the house is absolutely cozy.
The owners were so friendly, and the property manager, Suzanne, was so helpful. We enjoyed walks on the beach, just across the street, and going to sleep in a comfortable bed hearing the ocean waves. The kitchen was fully equipped, but we chose to eat our! All the restaurant suggestions were fabulous, as well as the locations and suggestions for places to visit. Thanks for sharing your home.
The sea is right across the street, you can hear the sound of the waves, the smell and view of the ocean seating on the big balconies. The rooms has very comfortable beds, the kitchen with all necessary appliances. Susan was very helpful getting us whatever we needed. Just would update the living furniture ... could even add a sofa bed to accommodate 6 pax
The house is beautiful and amazing. Right across the street from the ocean was such a treat! The groundskeeper David cut us fresh coconut every day! We thoroughly enjoyed the house and the ocean.
While the kitchen had the basics there weren't any coffee filters nor salt or pepper to season our food. Also the place did not provide filtered water and only provided 3 rolls of toilet paper for a week for three women! Otherwise we loved the house! I would recommend staying here.
We enjoyed our time on the Caribbean Coast and this house is located in the best area of that coast. Access to a wonderful & very long beach is right outside your door. A 20 minute walk down the beach takes you into a small town with ATM's, restaurants, stores & Costa Rica culture. In addition, you don't have to travel far to visit a couple of national parks and other great beaches. The house itself is a duplex with the Owners (Dan & Linda) on one side and us on the other side with an upstairs and downstairs both having a porch/balcony. Dan & Linda were great to answer my daily questions about life in Costa Rica. The house was very clean when we arrived and the pictures give an accurate description of what to expect.
Itâs pretty hard to beat the location, a minute walk to the black sand beach right in front, which was never crowded. When we were there swimming wasnât possible, but playing in the surf was really fun. Itâs just a short bike ride to town, about a mile. The yard is full of flowers and offered us many cool wildlife sightings. Nearby there is a fun 2 mile hike or bike to a bird filled river that empties into the sea.
The listing photos should be updated as they do not reflect the current condition of the house. The house is in need of maintenance. The kitchen was a challenge, and needs several upgrades. The paved street between the house and the beach is very noisy, but the road noise lessens at night. However, dogs bark and roosters crow then.
We would highly recommend Cahuita National Park, Punta Uva, the Jaguar Rescue Center, the chocolate tour at Caribeans, and the Puerto Viejo Bike shop for rentals, and Degustibus Bakery.
We loved our stay! Check in was simple. The house was furnished with everything we needed for our stay. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of space for two couples. It was nice having the washer and dryer available for laundry. We used the clothes line outside to dry our clothes so save electricity and everything dried fast with the breeze. The house was perfectly located across the road from the beach and just a few minute drive from town. There were plenty of cafes and places to eat near by as well as a grocery store. We nearly had the beach to ourselves each morning and evening. The porch was nice to sit on in the mornings and evening with a cup of coffee and enjoying the breeze. David the caretaker lives next door and will see to any needs that may arise. He is an amazing chef and though he wasn't available to cook for us on our short stay, we enjoyed sharing a few recipes together. The sunrise on the beach is an amazing site, make sure you take advantage of it! It was a pleasure to meet Susana, she has a sweet spirit and stopped by just to check and make sure we settled in and to answer any questions for us. Check out was simple too. We look forward to staying again the next time we are in Costa Rica!!
Les points faibles : Communication et exactitude de lâannonce
Needs lots of attention
Susana, the property manager, met us for check in and was flexible with our schedule due to a traffic accident shutting down the road. The property photos had obviously been taken years before. Things on the outside were beautiful, but the inside of the home had missing and broken tiles in the kitchen, no potable water (Susana said she would not drink it) and the water container in the photo as well as the microwave, no longer exist. The washer and dryer are in the living room so the only real gathering space is off the upstairs bedroom, (including going up steep, uneven stairs). The stove gas only worked half the time we were there and the oven never worked. There is a toaster oven but cooking for 4 in it was challenging. We asked for a drinking pitcher and Susana said she would bring the next day but we never got it. We were left only 4 towels, 1 roll of toilet paper, and 1 roll of papertowels for 4 adults for 7 days. When we asked Susana about anything, it was a big deal. She either became defensive or just ignored us. Who didn't ignore us was the property owner who shares the property and does not wear pants. That's right, every day he is waiting on the porch in his boxer shorts and at one point, we had only the screen door closed, I walked out of the bathroom after a shower in a towel headed to the bedroom to get dressed. He lets himself in and just stands there talking about bananas and ogling. After that, none of us stayed at the property alone.
Stayed in the house for 26 days. If things would have worked out the way I wanted we would still be there now...through the end of March 2025.There were 2 other people at the property - the property owner and a groundskeeper. The owner has quite a few interesting stories to tell. The groundskeeper was very helpful for getting a tuk tuk connection, arranging water bottle deliveries, identifying edible plants growing on the property, etc.We rented bikes which were great for a quick ride to the SK market or into town. Other beaches such as Cocles, Punta Uva and Manzanillo are also within reasonable cycling distances. The house does not have air conditioning. But my routine was when I started to get hot, the ocean was so close I would jump in the water for a bit and sit on a log in the shade to cool off. Or I would take a short bike on the dirt road by Banana Azul for some more secluded beach spots. The washing machine was a new experience for me. It is more interactive than what I am accustomed to but not a burden by any stretch. Our host Susana was responsive and helpful. We used WhatsApp which aided in communication. The upstairs balcony provided a nice private spot from which I saw a sloth traverse the wires across the street several times during our stay. Also saw a monkey quickly pass on the same wires a couple times.I feel the house enhanced my enjoyable experience. I am looking forward to visiting PV again and can hopefully book this house again.
Our stay was more than we hoped for because Susanna was the most kind and lovely person. She was very helpful to us choosing things to do and took time to get to know us to be able to suggest activities. Wish we would have stayed longer at this location of our travels.
The walk to town was pleasurable. We loved having a deck and upstairs balcony off the bedroom.
The only suggestion we would make is updating the microwave and toaster oven.
Ups: Rustic with lots of room plus a washer/dryer and hot water. Susana is your contact and is very nice and has a ton of information on Costa Rica including guides. The groundskeeper was very friendly and also helpful with answering our questions. Black sand beach right across the road. We saw a lot of wildlife while there as well.
Cons: Very busy road with traffic 24/7 and neighbors behind the house were up late fighting and several neighborhood dogs barking through most of the night.
We ended up changing our stay and left the next day to find a more secluded location on the other end of town.
The place was comfortable and had two patios to sit. My problem with this place was the traffic on the road next to the house. Also the road was not paved and the dust blew onto the patios. The caretaker did come and clean when asked. The traffic did die down at night. The house is across from the beach and an easy walk from the town. I would stay again.
Awesome stay, convenient location. The furniture and appliances are alittle dated but does not take away you are 2mins from the beach (directly across the street), 20min walk to the city center/ downtown or 5 min drive. Again if location, location is key this is the place! The place has a Two large beds, working/washer dryer and two huge front porches to greet you and help relax you! We enjoyed the stayâŠ..
Lovely , spacious house, set in a beautiful garden near the beach. Very good contact with the agent, the friendly owner/neighbor and local caretaker.
Unfortunately the nearby beach is unswimmable, due to very strong currents and enormous waves. And between the beach and the property there is a VERY busy dirt road, where a constant traffic of trucks and cars creates a lot of noise, dust and dirt.
If you want to swim, you'll need to take a taxi or ride a bike to Punta Uva, about 8km away.
The property needs refurbishment of furniture and kitchen equipment. Chairs are very old and uncomfortable. Washer and drier are situated in sitting area. Lots of dust and noise coming from busy nearby dirt road. Very noisy neighbours at the back of the property.
Book now! You only need to walk across the road to enjoy one of the most beautiful coastlines in Costa Rica. You are about 10 minutes outside of town but a taxi or bike ride will get you there with no issues. David, the property caretaker, is awesome & friendly and made our stay extra great. You are on the road so there is some dust to beware of if you have sensitive allergies. Overall, I highly recommend this unique stay. Roomy and comfortable. Nice breeze from the ocean on hot days. Beautiful gardens. It has it all!
We enjoyed our stay. The house is in a nice area and access to the beach is immediate. We all enjoyed beach walks, swimming and playing in the sea. Having David as an on-site caretaker makes the place feel secure and also well-cared for. He is also an excellent chef! Having the big washer and dryer in the house is wonderful. The only downside is the oven if youâd like to cook yourself. Plenty of good restaurants in Puerto Viejo.
The Bounty was in a perfect location and the property was beautiful. The ocean was steps away with beautiful black sand and we got to watch the moon rise every night above the water. The town was close by as well. The house was clean, we were able to cook some meals at the house, and there was a lot of space. Sitting on the deck at night watching fireflies outside was one of my favorite things. The property manager was so helpful, gave great recommendations and was always available for any questions or needs.
I loved that I could wake up everymorning and just most on over to the beach with my boys. It was great. The caretaker was available for anything we needed.
