I have had a hard time finding the words to respond to this vicious review. First of all, I had no idea she could post her venomous comments when she spent less than 2 hours at the property before leaving. She did NOT stay at the rental. It should also be noted that I helped her find alternative accommodations, and she is currently "persona non grata" at that hotel because she left without paying after spending the night there. Here are my comments on her review: On arrival at our beachfront property, it was apparent to me that she was intent on finding things to criticize, I'm guessing to get me to give her a refund. I refunded everything that came to our account, not including the vrbo fees which I have no control over. I did not hold back any cleaning fee as she claims. The electricity was down in the entire city and that was the first thing that had this person upset. Again, I cannot control our public power system, and those of us that live here, know that power outages happen on occasion and are repaired as soon as possible. The washer and dryer obviously didn't work until the power came back on. The lack of cleanliness she complains about, are hard to justify. The cleaning girl has been working with me for over 16 years, is highly regarded by all of the people she works with, and if there was some oversight (I couldn't find it) it was something minimal. Neither I nor the cleaning person could detect the smells and spiders she claimed were "everywhere". The windows all have wooden shutters. When she arrived, we had them open with just the screens closed, to let the air and light in. She didn't stay long enough to see there were wooden shutters on the windows and doors. The Bounty beachfront rental, is by no means a high end vacation destination. It is modestly priced to reflect the modest but comfortable accommodations. David, the grounds keeper, and myself strive to make guests as comfortable and happy as possible, and respond quickly to any needs our guests may have. That being said, Puerto Viejo is still partly set in the jungle. We are surrounded by wildlife, vegetation, critters and sights and sounds not found in cities. Unless the house is a sealed cement construction, the possibility is there of outdoor creatures getting inside. For some of us, that is part of the charm in living here, as is being able to stay in one of the few still standing traditionally styled wooden Caribbean homes. I hope this guest found what she needed. But we all get to choose how to respond to situations that are outside our comfort zone, and her behavior in this town left a bad taste for not a few of us.
