À propos de cet hébergement
Renovated historic craftsman bungalow in South Park w/ detached playroom/office.
One-of-a-Kind Craftsman Bungalow in the heart of South Park's Historic District, one of metro San Diego's most desirable neighborhoods. Walk to great restaurants, shopping, coffee shops and Balboa Park. World-famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, and Downtown San Diego are all a short drive away. Built-in monkey bars, ladder, and climbing wall in the "kids" room. Recently renovated inside and out. 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom in the main house plus a detached guest room/playroom/office in the backyard.
You will be staying in a historically designated craftsman bungalow built in 1911 in one of the coolest neighborhoods in San Diego. The whole home was recently renovated, but the historical charm has been kept, from the antique leaded glass sash-style windows, to the original wainscoting, picture rails and plate rails, and the dining room’s built-in buffet.
Front Porch: Two chairs and a cushioned porch swing. Set back from the street.
Living Room: The living room is separated into three distinct spaces, the piano area, the fireplace area, and the TV area. You'll have a comfy L-shaped sectional that fits all 6 guests for movie nights or TV entertainment. There are two high-back leather chairs with ottomans facing the fireplace, and a pearl-white baby grand piano.
Historical architectural features include the original craftsman front door, wood beams, original built-in bookcases and columns, original mantel over the remodeled fireplace, original door knobs, picture railing, antique leaded glass windows, and white oak hardwood flooring.
Bedroom 1: Queen bed, tall dresser, large closet, ceiling fan, recessed lighting, black-out window shades, and two nightstands, each with an alarm clock and USB charging outlet and bedside lamps.
Bedroom 2: This is the "monkey-bar" room. Kids say this is the best room in the house. There are three twin beds, two of which are "stair loft beds" with a weight limit of 250lbs. If you are bringing children, there will be a blow-up tumbling mat on the ground below the monkey bars. Large closet, two dressers, a shelf over each bed, recessed lighting, two clocks, and black-out window shades.
The monkey bars are designed for kids only. The weight limit for the monkey bars, yellow ladder, and climbing wall is 130lbs.
Bathroom: Dual vanity. LED mirror. Two shower heads. Beautifully remodeled.
Guest Room/Office/Playroom in the Backyard: Queen air mattress (if needed). Three built-in desks if you need a quiet space to work. All desks have multiple USB charging stations. There are also kids' books, games, and toys in this room. French doors that open to the back yard.
Dining Room: Dining table and six chairs. Built-in hutch/buffet with glassware. Original wood beams, trim, plate rails, and wainscoting. White oak hardwood flooring.
Kitchen: Beautifully renovated with quartz countertops, subway tile backsplash, gas stove, microwave, refrigerator, and a beverage fridge. Fully-stocked kitchen including a toaster, a toaster oven, air fryer, instant pot, espresso machine, and KitchenAid mixer. If you need/want something specific please ask... we may just have it and can leave it out for you.
Game Closet: The game closet comes fully-stocked with all our favorite games and puzzles (anywhere from 100 to 1,000 pieces).
Games include: Sushi Go, Settlers of Catan (and the extension), Monopoly, Ticket to Ride, Sequence, Taboo, Scattergories, Scotland yard, Camel Up, Pandemic, Cashflow, Carcassonne, Scrabble, Risk, Rummikub, Yahtzee, Family Trivial Pursuit, Monikers, Othello, Connect 4, Family Charades, Catan Junior, and more.
Bonus Room/Hallway: This room/hallway contains the game closet, a large world map, and another desk.
Laundry Room: Large, front-loading washer and dryer. Counter-top for folding laundry and a hanger rod for hanging your clothes.
Backyard: You have exclusive use of the backyard. There is a custom-designed gas firepit and plenty of seating for everyone on the built-in benches and designer sectional. We have a giant Jenga set and giant Connect Four. There is an outdoor shower on the side of the house to get all the sand off and rinse wetsuits after a day at the beach. There is both a Traeger smoker and a regular gas grill for you to use.
Side Yard: There is an outdoor dining table and two umbrellas on the driveway side. It's all private behind an artisan craftsman-style gate and trellis. String lights at night make the backyard and side yard a little more magical.
It's such an amazing home, you might not want to go out! :-)
There is one parking spot in the driveway in front of the gate that guests can use. And plenty of street parking.
The windows are original (112 years old), and some function better than others. Monkey bars, climbing wall, and ladder in kids bedroom are to be used at your own risk. Small children must be supervised by a responsible adult.
You will have exclusive access to the whole property except one bedroom and the garage, both of which are unoccupied, locked, and not accessible for guests. The main house has 2 bedrooms (with beds for 5 people), a large living room, a separate dining room, laundry room, bonus hallway/game closet area, a kitchen and one bathroom. In the backyard there is a detached guest room/playroom/office with french doors opening to the backyard. A queen air mattress can be set up in the detached guest room/playroom/office, or we can set up the air mattress in the living room or dining room (if you need it at all). Both places have enough space to put a queen air mattress.
Other things to note:
The home is in the flight path for San Diego International Airport. You will hear and see planes/jets fly over the house on a regular basis throughout the day until midnight. They are loud enough to interrupt a conversation when standing outside or cause you to hit the pause button on the remote when watching a movie. We South Parkians affectionately refer to this as the "South Park Pause."
The home is on a busy street, the main drag through the neighborhood. It's also a busy street for walkers. We love it because we like being in the middle of everything. We love sitting on the front porch with a cup of freshly brewed coffee watching life happening all-around. It's an urban setting. You hear cars, planes, trucks, and buses go by.
The house does not have central heat or air. The home sits up above the street and gets a nice breeze most times of the day. The gas-insert fireplace (turned on and off with a remote) heats the home in the winter (the bedroom with the queen bed stays pretty cold in winter, but the bedding is extra warm). We have two fans behind the piano for your use. The detached guest room/office/playroom has its own ductless (mini-split) heating and cooling system.
