The Shack at Shortoff...in the heart of hiking, biking and boating.

As avid outdoor enthusiasts ourselves, Pamela and I love sharing this space with others. We truly feel The Shack is located in a perfect spot for those who love the outdoors. The Shack is centrally located on a gravel road exactly one mile from Lake James, Fonta Flora hiking/biking trail and Shortoff mountain and access to Linville Gorge. Pamela spent her childhood years on a three hundred acre dairy farm in northern PA. She spent her teenage years in Australia and Hawaii before finally settling in ATL as a young adult. She has spent the last 17 years savings lives as a highly respected Respiratory Therapist. After living in all those beautiful places she loves calling this part of NC home. Then there’s Todd...Born and raised in this part of NC. I attended college at UNCW studying business and started my first business at the young age of 24. After a twenty-some year career owning an advanced composite manufacturing facility it was time to try something new. Here we both are, in the beautiful Lake James area of NC building a portfolio of short term rentals. We hope to see you soon and hope you find this place to be as beautiful as we do.

The Shack at Shortoff is sooooo close to all things outdoor Western NC has to offer, its unbelievable. If its outdoor activities you desire, its all here...Check out the Fonta Flora bike trail, hike Shortoff, hike the Linville Gorge, enjoy a day on Lake James. After a day of outdoor activities enjoy an adult beverage at the Fonta Flora Brewery or a five star meal at the Root & Vine, downtown Morganton. If you're up for some day trippin, the Shack makes an excellent base camp for points of interest. To name a few...Blue Rige Parkway, Asheville, Boone, Blowing Rock. There is a Guidebook/Things To Do hard-copy in the Shack with more details. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just 30 minutes away. Ashville is a beautiful 1 hour ride straight up I-40 or meander the back roads. Boone and Blowing Rock are easily in reach. Depending how you choose to travel...they can be as short as an hour away or as long as you like...traveling amazing back roads, the Blue Ridge Parkway, HWY 181, 221...I could go own and own, your options are almost unlimited!!

The Shack is filled with high end finishes and touches to pamper you and create a 5 star experience with the privacy of being surrounded by national forest and game-lands. Lay in bed at night and star gaze out the large transom windows and large picture window, from the comfort of your memory foam mattress and high-end bedding. Full disclosure...The front of the house has blackout curtains at the two large sliding doors. Each stay comes with your choice of top shelf wine, snacks, bottled spring water, Weber propane grill, and an awesome cast iron fire pit...made is the USA and all the wood you need. Afternoons and mornings are without question, visually stunning...almost spiritual!! The way the sunlight dances around and paints ever changing works of art on the eastern ridge of Linville Gorge.
