historic cottage in scenic Dutch landscape at IJsselmeer
Nestled between the two historic iconic towns of Enkhuizen and Medemblik, our rural cottage sits at the IJssselmeer. Come for total relaxation, and recreation, like swimming, sailing, walking and cycling on the dyke. Escape from city hustle and only 45 min from Amsterdam.
The cottage is in a lovely sunny position, very quiet and the beds are comfortable. Itâs not a spacious cottage for 6 adults - the sitting room, main entrance, kitchen and dining area are all the same room; one sofa with 4 seats; very little âkitchenâ space but adequate hob and oven. The ownerâs family were warm, friendly and helpful. I would stay again if holidaying in Holland, but not with 6 of us, really it suits 4.
We are a family of 2 adults, 2 college students from Colorado, using the cottage as our home base for 10 Magical Days. We did day trips by car or train, coming home late to cook dinner each day. The cottage is on the lake which has a bike/walking path, with breath-taking views of IJsselmeer, migrating birds, sheep, country farms and greenhouses, and modern windmills, making for beautiful morning runs and evening walks. The accommodations worked perfectly for a family of four. The cottage is adjacent to the main house, and the owner was always helpful and interesting to talk with. The bathroom Room is separate from the Shower/Sink Room, and there is an additional Sink in the Master Bedroom. The Kitchen is well-equipped with two induction burners, and a combination microwave/convection oven. There are two large grocery stores in town, a few blocks from the cottage. The flower gardens in both the front and back of the cottage are beautiful. Our only difficulty was finding a laundromat suitable for simultaneous family loads; the nearby outdoor laundromat only had one washer/drier combo, which always seemed to be in use.

This is a very unique property and has a long history. It was build in 1900 and survived the flood of 1916 when de Dyke broke and Andijk flooded. Its style is typical West Friesian with the ornaments and colors you find all through the region. It has a big flower garden to enjoy. Even though the house itself is from the turn of the last century, the cottage is newly remodeled in 2018.
We live in a bird reserve. The proximity to the lake, home to migrating birds, ducks and geese will give you the feeling you live in the middle of nature. From the doorstep you are right at the IJsselmeer for recreation.
