Mad Mahi during the Month of Lobster Mini-Season - July 2023
Our family stays a month in the Keys every year in July. The Mad Mahi was very clean and had a great layout for our party of 9. The upstairs was great with 2 king master bedrooms w/private baths and downstairs had a separate apartment with a queen and two twin bedrooms w/private baths. The sunroom was great, too, with daybed and half bath. We liked the open floor plan for nights singing karaoke and cooking together.
The backyard was a little tropical oasis. It had a tiny pool (but we still enjoyed it), ping-pong table, tiki hut (so cute), kayaks, loungers, fish cleaning station, and enough space to accommodate our 27 foot boat. We loved the fact that the dock had large, permanent bumpers for docking the boat easily.
The Atlantic and Gulf access were fantastic. We caught so many keeper Mahi fish every time we went fishing. Maybe the luck of the Mad Mahi? It was also very easy to get to good lobster areas during Mini-Season but be warned they are boat parking lots! We normally stay in Islamorada or Marathon and always busy, but I will say much busier and competitive in the Big Pine Key area during Mini-Season. That said, we still got them and enjoyed the sandbars and gorgeous water.
We also walked and biked the neighborhood. It was nice but people drive fast and dangerously so be careful with kids. Neighbors (excluding the nice realtor) are a bit uptight/unwelcoming but I get it (permanent residents and we are renters).
Overall a fantastic property! 5 stars!
