We loved this place! It was unique, beautiful, comfortable, and wonderfully furnished. Walkable. Great host. Weâd stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend.
My family traveled to bar harbor for a Thanksgiving getaway. The location was ideal and within walking distance to everything downtown bar harbor. Kay was a wonderful host and responsive during our visit. The house was beautiful and spacious for our group of 9. She left us a lovely gift basket with lots of goodies we enjoyed. I would highly recommend this property.
This big house had plenty of room for 9 adults. The house was very clean and the beds were nice. We were in walking distance to many things & the neighborhood was safe and quiet. Our hosts were very responsive prior to and during our stay.
We loved our stay at this large, historic home. The house was beautiful and clean and perfect for 4 adult friends. The location is amazing - walkable to the village. The front porch was a great spot for morning coffee or afternoon relaxation. The owner was easy to communicate with and there whenever I needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bar Harbor and at this spectacular home.
Very well stocked. As an older house had to look for the light switches but figured it out. Lovely back family room with a piano. Very comfortable beds. Excellent location in town. Close to everything
House was in a great spot and host was excellent with responsiveness and providing helpful information. The house has everything you need. Itâs an old house so bathrooms and some aspects reflect that.
The house might be my wifeâs dream house: lots of character but nicely updated. It was a hot week and the AC was strong. The grill was clean and ready to go. There were tons of games and puzzles for downtime. And the location is exceptional. Just a block to all the action, but still on a quiet street. It was perfect for our mini family reunion.
Great for large family. A lot of room to be together or apart
Wonderful, welcoming and well-stocked home. Our family of 9 adults loved it. Great spot to easily walk to anywhere in Bar Harbor - which we did for 4 days in a row.
Good communication with the owner made it easy. Two car parking limit was a bit of a pinch but we found a creative way to park a third car off site. Highly recommended to any large group
Staying at Kay's place was truly magical. The house was spotless and extremely spacious. My spouse, kids, and grandkids all found places to have time to themselves and time to gather together. The living room was perfect for playing games in the evening and just sitting around and talking. The location of this house couldn't have been more perfect: steps from the grocery store and the Village Green and bustling downtown. We all wished we could have stayed longer and would love to come back here when we come back to Bar Harbor!
We thoroughly enjoyed our well long stay in Bar Harbor. This beautiful home was fantastic! Very conveniently located downtown. You can walk to just about everything. Less than 10 minute drive to Acadia.
Will definitely stay there again when we return!
We loved staying at this home. It was our first visit to Bar Harbor and we fell in love with both the home and the town. Just steps away is the charming downtown area with tons of shops and restaurants, around the corner is a grocery store, and a five minute drive gets you into Acadia National Park. Couldn't ask for a better location!
We enjoyed our stay in Bar Harbor. The house has plenty of room for six adults and Kay provided a crib and high chair for our 9 month old. Very accommodating owners. Thank you!
We spent 5 days in Bar Harbor for a family get together. There were 4 adults and 5 children ranging from 15 to 23. The house was comfortable, had plenty of space and was centrally located. Would highly recommend.
Our family of 9 spent 10 fun days in this spacious, clean, and comfortable home. It is in an ideal location, so that we were able to walk or take the Island Explorer to most attractions, museums, restaurants and trail heads. On the one rainy day, there were plenty of games, books and puzzles on the shelves to keep us entertained.
The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed. The air conditioning kept us cool. The laundry room was convenient. We enjoyed barbecuing on the patio. It was a wonderful stay!
This house could not have been more perfect for 9 high school friends celebrating our 60th birthdays! It is beautiful and spacious and had everything that we could possibly need. We appreciated the pantry essentials and LOVED the porch where we spent all our free time. The location is perfect - on a quiet street, but easy walking distance to everything the town has to offer. Kay and Augustine were very responsive. We could not imagine a better choice for our Bar Harbor stay!
Communication was stellar. The property is as I expected. We appreciated that we were close to the downtown area. The only disadvantage was the people in the house to our right. They were screaming and cussing for quite a while. This was disappointing with small children who could hear.
Great location to downtown and also Acadia. The house itself was a perfect size for the 8 of us. It was nice having the TV room out of the mainstream so it wouldn't wake anyone up. Likewise, the parlor was perfect for us all getting together to determine the course of our day/night. The nice large porch was perfect to sit outside for some family time.
The floors/rugs could have used a deep cleaning but everything else was really clean. Comfortable towels and bedding which is always a plus in my book.
Kay was very responsive when we were asking questions about the house. Would definitely stay here again.
Our group consisted of 8 adults and a 2 year old who gathered for a memorial service for Grandma. The house was a perfect place for us to gather. It was very spacious with wonderful spaces that we could sit around and chat and enjoy a glass of wine. The bedrooms were as advertised and there were 4 full baths. Everything we needed was in the house. We were very comfortable there. Since this is a very old house, there was almost no overhead lighting, just table lamps. Putting on makeup in the bathroom was a bit of a challenge due to the lighting.
The house was right in downtown Bar Harbor and it was a short walk to the main road, shops and restaurants. We were lucky enough to see the Bar Harbor Bed Races on the Saturday of our stay. Of course, the entrance to Acadia National Park was a short drive away.
The owners provided us with plenty of information before we arrived and promptly answered a couple of questions that we had. The binder of info that was in the house was very helpful. This was a lovely home and I would recommend it as a great place to stay.
Our family vacation at Kay and Augusto's lovely home was just perfect. We give it 5 stars.
When I first rented our VRBO home, I was not sure of what to expect. The gallery pictures were nice but yet I was not sure. Sometimes these photos can tend to make the home look better than it actually is. So needless to say, I was so delightfully surprised when we entered that spacious foyer of Augusto and Kay's charming home. From the lovely porch with its wicker furniture and rocking chairs to the bedroom on the third level, the house fit our needs for 11 adults and was more than I expected. The rooms were large with high ceilings and their was plenty of space to spread out. We enjoyed breakfast in the bright breakfast room and dinners around the large parson table in the dinning room.
We particularly appreciated a well stocked kitchen and the grill outside since most of our meals were prepared and enjoyed in the house. My grandchildren, ages 14 to 21,
were impressed with the uniqueness of an older house with its design and character.
Augusto and Kay have truly created a welcoming home away from home.
Another plus feature of the home was the location. We were all happy to be so close to the park, attractions, restaurants, and shopping all within walking distance. Using the bus to go to and from the park was an added pleasure. Kay and Augusto had provided excellent instructions to familiarized us with the home and any needs we may have during our stay. We also enjoyed reading about their family and their home.
Our week in Bar Harbor was most enjoyable. Our family created memories hiking, biking, kayaking, watching the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, being together, and so much more. Thank you Augusto and Kay and VRBO for a delightful and memorable vacation.
Maria Poppe and family
We are a couple with four (now adult) children who have enjoyed living in Bar Harbor since 1995. After a five year search, we purchased this home for our growing family because of its size, location, intact historic elements, and great bones, but it needed a lot of work!! We are both architects and have lovingly restored this gem of a home to its glory while incorporating modern amenities/comforts (AC!) and our own touches. We own several other historic Bar Harbor properties as well -Emerson House, Mason House and the Cottage on Cottage - all of which we've lovingly restored and upgraded, We enjoy traveling (when not visiting our children 3/4 of whom live in Europe, or our family beach house in Brazil, we always rent homes when we travel and enjoy being able to provide similar comfort to other travelers!). At the end of our travels, we always cherish returning to this particular home, where we raised our family, made so many memories, and continue to do so. Outside of architecture and travel, Kay enjoys writing and Augusto is a magnificent photographer, cook and painter.
We purchased this home because having had few owners before us, it had retained most of its original features and charm, and as architects, we knew good bones when we saw them! Since then, the home has been totally renovated, and serves as an excellent design laboratory - even our most discerning clients have appreciated the hospitality and ambiance of this home! There is nothing like parking our cars and being able to walk to the grocery store, cinemas, restaurants, shore, parks, churches, and everything else Bar Harbor offers. One can enjoy the lively Main Street of Bar Harbor at whim, yet be back to relax on the tranquil tree-lined street in mere minutes. Sitting on the porch, we enjoy saying hello to the neighbors as they walk by, or dining in the garden on a delightful Maine evening!
The "butler's pantry" (the reason we fell in love with the house, though our eldest child was a bit disappointed there was no actually butler included!) the fireplaces, the wooden fretwork, the massive entry columns, oversized front door, the diamond paned windows...they just don't make them like this anymore! Elegant and spacious, but livable and oh, so well located!
