The "New Retreat" is your perfect cozy getaway nestled on Van Etten Lake, fully updated with all the amenities - A/C,
Wi-Fi, private dock access, new steps to the water, and a new deck overlooking the water. This cottage underwent a re-model in Spring 2022 to accommodate up to 6 overnight guests with two bedrooms and one full bath. All new windows added in 2024. Fully stocked kitchen with granite countertops and new appliances. You will find a Smart TV in the living room as well as a sunroom overlooking the water for all your lake views! Relax outdoors on your private deck or park your water toys on your private dock. You will find all you need for a relaxing getaway in Northern Michigan at The New Retreat!

Summer cottage on the lake

This is the 4th year we have stayed at the cabin and it’s always a great experience! Dorene, the host, is great to deal with and quick to answer any questions you might have. We will be back again for sure!

This cottage is so cute and cozy. Love the decor. The cottage has everything you might need. It’s a 12 minute drive to a beautiful beach on Lake Huron. Would definitely go back.

Wonderful place to relax and unwind while seeing magnificent Lake Huron

All 4 of us enjoyed the peaceful surroundings From relaxing at the fire pit or on the dock, to fixing meals in the kitchen and on the gas grill, our stay here was just what we needed. The view of Lake Van Etten from inside and outside was gorgeous! Comfy beds! Dorene was a very responsive host! Close to everything we wanted to do!

A perfect get away place with a lake view and the sunrise.

Quiet, cozy. Beautifully decorated. Everything I needed was there. It was nice to wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck watching the sunrise. Close to everywhere you need to go.

60th Birthday getaway

Peace and tranquility are what comes to mind about this property. This adorable lake cottage is updated beautifully with all new appliances. It was an extremely quiet area of the lake. We loved having coffee on the new deck and watched a huge thunderstorm safely inside the sun porch. We will definitely visit this property again

The perfect Lakehouse getaway

We absolutely loved our stay here. Exactly what we were looking for. Fishing, beautiful views, cozy coffee spot and close to the beach. The sunroom was everyone’s favorite spot. Our three kids loved the big upstairs bedroom that stayed cool and quiet for a midday nap. Well stocked kitchen cabinets had anything you might have forgotten. Five star for sure!

My family and I absolutely adored the cottage and the peaceful town it was situated in. The view was breathtaking and the cottage itself was immaculately clean and charming. We felt right at home and were able to prepare all of our meals in the kitchen, which we enjoyed on the patio overlooking the lake. The locals were incredibly friendly and spending time by the beach was exactly what we needed to rejuvenate. I cannot speak highly enough of the host - she was incredibly responsive and kind, ensuring that our stay was flawless. We are already looking forward to returning in the future!

Girls trip

Our trip was truly magical. The cabin was charming and perfect. The pictures do not do this place justice. Everything was so clean and beautiful. I truly loved the ceilings in the place. You will see what I am talking about when you book. The beds were comfy and made up with the most beautiful bedding. We truly appreciated the large plush bath towels provided and stocked shower wash/shampoo to clean off the river after a long day. The host thought of everything right down to providing coffee ☕, beach towels and even comfy chairs for around the fire. I have been to do many rentals that provided nothing. It's just so much more to pack and drag arounf. So truly it was appreciated that so much though was put into our comfort. We enjoyed a very fun and relaxing trip down the beautiful Abusable river and a trip on the river queen. The locals are so friendly and fun. We enjoyed some karaoke at the local bowling alley and hit a couple more watering holes stoped for some local ice cream and visited the local beach. Truly amazing little town and beautiful location for a low key relaxing glamping trip. Lots of memories were made and tons of laughs were shared.

Quiet time on Lake

Cottage was just as described in very comfortable. Mid week there’s just no activity on the lake so it’s very private. Good communication with owner and absolutely enjoyed our stay.

Had a wonderful birthday weekend in a beautifully decorated home on our favorite lake.

Very clean. Very new appliances and furniture. Was a pleasure to stay there and will consider booking the place in the summer. Had a fire by the lake front but was disappointed that the indoor fireplace was not working.

Great Stay at the New Retreat

We had a great stay at the New Retreat. Property was very clean. The living room was perfect for relaxing, and the deck out back overlooking the lake was beautiful. Dorene was a great host and very responsive.
