Come see this charming two-bedroom cabin, with one-and-a-half bathrooms, that has a rich history in Brown County!

Charley's Cabin is the perfect retreat for those seeking relaxation by the stars. You'll create unforgettable memories here that will add to the cabin's legacy. Only a short drive away are the Brown County State Park and the delightful shops and restaurants of Nashville.

Charley's Cabin was built on the site of Alfred Oaldon's old blacksmith shop by Charlie Fox between 1987 and 1990. To replicate his childhood home in Brown County, Charlie used logs he cut himself on an old sawmill he owned as a young man. During WWII, he served in the United States Navy in Guam as a Seabee, where he honed his valuable building skills in constructing airstrips. You'll find more information about the cabin's fascinating history throughout the space.

It was just what we needed

First Vacation

This was our first vacation as a couple and we thoroughly enjoyed the cabin. So much we have decided to book this same cabin over Labor Day weekend and any other future trips to Brown County. The cabin was very welcoming.

Cute cabin a few quirks

We have come to love staying in vacation rentals through the year. However, we were made aware that we had come to take for granted some things that we had considered basic amenities. This property says it has a coffee maker but it has a kerig so if you are like us and bring your coffee and filters from home you’re out of luck. There is also no dishwasher (which REALLY surprised us!). No dishwasher? I had to to wash dishes by hand while on vacation? Yeah that sucked. I don’t even have to do that at home! (Plus, I don't necessarily trust that others wash dishes by hand as well as I would). No central air. Loud individual room air conditioners that did not work well and we always felt sticky. Cabin smelled strongly like newly stained varnish and gave us headaches. No washer or dryer? We have come to like going home with everything clean and not having to do laundry when we get home. There is an ant problem, if dishes are left in the sink for even a short amount of time they are covered with ants!! Learned that really quickly. My husband is tall and hated the upstairs bathroom. The chore list on the refrigerator for check out; left a bad impression with us. We have NEVER been expected to strip the sheets off our own beds. We have stayed at many vacation rentals through the years but this left us realizing that we had come to take some basic amenities for granted like if a rental says it has a coffee pot to make sure it's an actual coffee pot, double checking the specs for a washer/dryer, dishwasher, air conditioner, etc. We also do not ever want to rent from someone/somewhere that charges us additional fees and then we are expected to still do housekeeping services. While the cabin was cute and the setting was nice, these other things over shadowed the overall experience unfortunately. Theresa Rock

This cabin is so cute! Extremely clean on arrival. It had everything we needed to cook and start our bonfire. The hot tub was definitely a plus. Would definitely stay here again!!

Cute, comfortable cabin

My friend and I stayed at the cabin for a writing retreat. It was a perfect spot. The cabin was cozy, the kitchen was well equipped, and the internet was fast and reliable. The location was quiet and secluded (however, it was pretty close to the street, and many drivers went quite fast, so if you bring kids or pets, you need to keep an eye open). The hot tub was relaxing, and they had a great fire pit and grill in the front yard. The back porch overlooked the woods, which made it particularly nice. Plus, the property manager was incredibly responsive whenever we had a question (e.g., we had a question about the water level of the hot tub on our third evening; it was well after business hours, and they responded within minutes!). We certainly would stay here again if we had the opportunity.

Dream cabin

We loved our stay here for a girls trip over the weekend. After girls trip the hubs and young in’ came and stayed one night and loved it. Seriously. Sooooo many amenities available above and beyond any VBRO or short term rental I’ve stayed at. Location was an easy drive to Nashville and right around the corner from the bean blossom outdoor venue. It was quiet and everything we expected. Beds were comfortable. I slept on a twin in one room and the queen in the other (yes, it’s a queen). Other than not having full access to control the temp, there are zero complaints and we would stay again- especially during the winter months to enjoy the wood burning stove- I miss mine! Thanks so much for a great stay and amazing cabin. We really loved the little trail too behind the cabin and different spaces to be like the picnic table to the north by the trail head and the outdoor fire pit/ grill space. Was even surprised there was a lighter and fire starters. We brought our own fire wood but was surprised to see firewood also on site.

The location is great and there is plenty to keep you entertained in the cabin and out whether the weather is crappy or perfect. The fact that it’s dog friendly is what made it absolutely perfect to me.
