We enjoyed our stay at this historic cottage and the space was decorated beautifully. The bed was comfy and there was lots of privacy which was wonderful. The fire pit was even loaded and ready for a fire which was so thoughtful. During an evening walk, we made the grave mistake of walking across to the other side of the road to enjoy the sunset at the lake when a boy's camp staff person came running over to yell at us and tell us we were not allowed on that side of the road. Apparently, one side of the road is okay to be on and one side is not depending on whether you're a guest of Lake Eden retreats, or the boy's camp. We looked everywhere but there were no signs to let us know this. I can just imagine how menacing we must have looked as a retired couple with a dog on a leash taking in the sunset to warrant such a fierce response. lol
Loved this house and location! The house was really cool. What would make this place perfect would be king size beds & larger tv with cable. Otherwise amazing! The location is lovely & black mountain is a great town!
This place could have been perfect. However the beds were uncomfortable, the stereo did not work, no TV and the fireplace had a broken part. This place needs some TLC, rotten wood repair and a king size bed.
Cottage nice, a bit rustic. Beautiful setting. Dishwasher did not work even after handy man showed us how to turn it on. Toaster did not work. Dryer would not heat. Not wheelchair/walker accessible. Several steps both ways. Brother only stayed 1night with his wife because of this, she uses a walker due to MD. Disappointed in that.
Our stay was wonderful! The additions of the historic photos depicting the cottage during the time of black mountain college added to its rich history and sense of place. This cottage is sacred to our family and it provided much needed togetherness. Thank you!
Great place to stay, secluded and quiet location yet still close to Asheville and other attractions. The house was clean and cozy, a relaxing place to stay.
My group enjoyed a weekend getaway at this clean, well-maintained property and great location at Lake Eden. Easy check in/check out, cabin had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. Weâll be back!
Definitely recommend staying here. We came for the snow and we got it! The owners were very accommodating as we got snowed in and needed to stay an extra night. Also, stove stopped working and they brought over a hot plate. The dogs loved the snow and playing on the mountain. The only downside was they donât have cable or a smart tv, which wasnât listed on the online description, I just didnât realize. So come prepared for that. Other than that the place was a perfect getaway!
We greatly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home surrounded by woods in the mountains! We were assisted in person checking in, and Leigh was gracious and helpful. The home was even more beautiful than the pictures suggested, with ambient light throughout, a wrap around deck and luxury accommodations. We liked it so much when we walked in that we decided to stay an additional night! We were close to both Asheville and Black Mountain, which is a lovely smaller town filled with breweries, shops and restaurants. Highly recommend!
Good property in nice location but fireplace did not work.
Listing well represented this property in a private setting. Cannot give it 5 stars as the fireplace was not working, and there was insufficient information in the house regarding internet connection, operation of electronics, etc. House manager was responsive to help.
This place is great! The cabin is exactly as advertised, although the master bathroom might be better than advertised! Great location , close to Asheville and Black Mountain which was a hidden gem as far as we were concerned. Super dog friendly area. - I brought mine and the exploring is great. Just be aware that there are a couple loose dogs running around the larger property, though not typically by this cabin. They are friendly, but just a note for whom that might matter. We would absolutely stay here again.
Our stay was wonderful! The property was beautiful and well managed. The house was comfortable and conveniently located just 5+ride to main road that takes you to charming downtown Black Mountain. Lots of things to do in the immediate area and a short ride to downtown Asheville.
We loved the location on Lake Eden. The Sequoia was a lovely home for a week. However, there were some issues: there was no storage for clothes. I had to live out of my suitcase. Each room needs a closet or bureau. Hangers should be provided in each room. We also had difficulty with phone communications. I was unable to phone or text several people, including my cousin who was planning to visit us from the Winston-Salem area.
This property was the best of both worlds for us: the house was perfectly outfitted with all that we could need to cook and relax in every modern comfort while also being deep in the woods. We walked the trails every day seeing something new! We loved hearing taps from the nearby camp and enjoyed completely unplugging with little to no phone service (just how we like a vacation). The wifi was excellent which allowed us to still connect with friends and family and let them know exactly what they were missing! We loved walking and thinking about all of the Black Mountain artists who also roamed the same area and really enjoyed nearby hikes at Lookout Mountain and Catwba Falls. We can't wait to do this again!
Beds not adequate for six adults. Trundle beds ok for children. Not grown ups. An ironing board was available but no iron. Hand soap available but no bath soap. Clothes rods available but no hangers. Deck furniture rusty and in need of paint. D d had to be replaced when we arrived. Leigh responded to my request very rapidly. The fishing pond is quire a distance from the house which surprised me since the information stated fishing from the house property. True but the property is many acres. I donât think I would return to this property
This property was just what we were looking for! The house was large enough for our family and we loved the eclectic & artistic decor. It was very comfortable and the surrounding retreat property was beautiful and relaxing. The kitchen was missing a few items (large mixing/serving bowls and no blender) but we made it work. The deck was a great place for our morning coffee and then at night we enjoyed making s'mores in the fire circle. The town of Black Mountain was charming and Asheville was a short drive away. We will definitely return to Lake Eden!
A great property at a great location - out of the way but still close to everything. I wanted some place to work from home that wasn't my home and this was perfect. My dog and I walked the property every morning and afternoon and the internet speed allowed me to get my work done during the day. Asheville is 10 minutes away and there are plenty of restaurants and coffee places close by.
Wonderful, relaxing weekend. Enjoyed fishing a couple of times. Black Mountain was an easy drive and had a enjoyable downtown area with great shops and restaurants. Adequate space for our family.
Lake Eden has a wonderful history well documented back to the 1800's. This property has been featured in movies, books, and advertisements over the years and always is ready for the next story to be created. Lake Eden has been continuously owned and operated by our family since 1956,
