Stay at the Pre-Civil war home of the Ulysses S. Grant, 18th President of the United States
Stay in the home of one of America's most beloved Presidents, Ulysses S Grant. His pre-civil war home has been fully restored to its 1800's splendor with a convincing blend of historic era pieces and discretely disguised modern conveniences. It's a perfect mix of history and luxury. Just 3 blocks from the historic downtown.
"Beyond the beauty and history of the house itself, the hosts are the kindest and most thoughtful we've encountered. They went out of their way to make the experience memorable and we're deeply appreciative. We recommend The Grant House highly." Stephen
Great historic home in Galena. Place was clean and updated but kept its historic charm of Grantâs prior home. The host was responsive and welcoming. Definitely recommend this place.
Grantâs pre-war home radiates the rich history and grandeur of Ulysses S. Grant. It offers a warm, elegant atmosphere while immersing guests in the heritage of Galena and its surrounding areas. The property provides stunning views of the town, and downtown Galena is just a short walk away. We highly recommend it.
The house was immaculate and felt like you were living in a piece of history. The small details and all the hidden luxuries made it a truly unique and comfortable stay. It's in a great location, close to downtown Galena. I would stay here again.
A group of 7 of us came in for the wine fest and this place worked great for us. The location was very convenient for walking into town and the house was clean/comfortable with all needed amenities. The historic piece was a great added bonus.
My sister and 2 daughter-in-laws stayed at this house ! It is absolutely amazing in every way! Clean well stocked , very nice furniture , and the beds were awesome ! We drove downtown everyday , as the hill coming back up is a big one . Would definitely like to go back.
We stayed at the property for a girls weekend away and had a great time! The house is very clean and beautifully period appropriate decorated. We were thrilled by some of the amenities that we didnât expect like a new stove and air conditioning. It is very close to downtown but there are lots of hills. We loved that it was a stop on the historical trolley tour too! We would highly recommend!
It was great to live for a couple days in a home where a former president lived. The period furnishings completed the experience, yet the modern appliances in the kitchen are a great convenience.
Fun property because of the unique design and historical significance of the house. Perfect for the four of us (two couples) in Galena to do some golfing, eating, drinking, and socializing. Even spent a few minutes exploring the historic cemetery behind the house. House was clean and had everything that was needed. Communication from the host was clear and concise and even the neighbors would ask how things were going when we encountered them.
Six of us spent the weekend celebrating my husbandâs 60th birthday at Grantâs pre civil war home.
First thing we noticed was the cleanliness of the home. All the history books and the layout of the home was fun to explore. The cake left for us to help celebrate the birthday weekend was beautiful and definitely very appreciated.
I know my husband and friends totally enjoyed their time together, having the historic background was the icing on the cake!
A beautiful home with great history! The home was close to downtown allowing my family to either walk or drive. The home was very clean with lots of household items provided: dishes, pots and pans, utensils, bakeware, cups and mugs, spices, teas, dish towels, coffee pot, toaster, dish soap, bath towels, toilet paper about 6 rolls, paper towels one roll, washer and dryer along with laundry detergent, about 3 toiletry sets, a outside grill, patio set of 4, two bathrobes per bedroom, family board games, three TVs- one in each bedroom and the living however one bedroom did not have a TV, a nice car port. One bedroom was a connecting bedroom upstairs with another bedroom. The 3rd bedroom was a separate wing of the house and had its own bathroom and small kitchen with its own entrance and exit. My family and I really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back to this house.
This property was so full of history and very well appointed. My sister, mother and I stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed every moment, apart from the huge black walnut tree by the outdoor patio dropping its large nuts on us, but we made a game out of that betting who would be the next target lol.
So many places to tour and restaurants within such close proximity to the house as well as the trolley tour bus stopping on the street at the house every hour to mention it's rich history. We enjoyed waving at the patrons on the bus if we were on the patio having our wine and snacks.
The house is very comfortable and Grant's library is full of books to peruse.
We would highly recommend a stay at this house in beautiful historic Galena.
