Dodgeville's rich railroad history is reflected in this charming cottage, which was originally built as housing for railroad workers. The historic gray railroad building adjacent to the cottage and the unique stone construction are testament to the town's deep connection to rail transportation.
Historical Context: Dodgeville was once served by both the Chicago and Northwestern and Illinois Central Railroads
The Illinois Central freight depot still stands in downtown Dodgeville
Railroads played a crucial role in the town's development and economic growth in the 19th and early 20th centuries
The stone construction not only adds architectural charm but also represents the craftsmanship of the era when railroad workers and miners were integral to the community's development. This cottage stands as a living piece of Dodgeville's transportation and industrial heritage.
This cottage is ideal for travelers seeking a peaceful home base to explore Southwest Wisconsin's beautiful landscapes and charming towns.
Cute little house - with everything you need. Nice, quiet location. Loved the hardwood floors. Easy check in and out, convenient location for our visit to Governor Dodge State Park. Perfect little home.
We had such a great stay in this little home in Dodgeville. The house was so cute and clean and comfortable. The washer acted up while we were there, and the owners were quick to respond to the issue and sent a repairman right away.
For the most part everything was lovely upon arrival and during our stay. There were only a few minor suggestions that would help make this the perfect getaway.
1) Owner needs to provide entrance instructions at least a week in advance to guest(s).
2) Blinds needed cleaning.
3) No cutting board was available.
4) For older adults, steps down to kitchen need to be more visibly defined as they blend with the color of the flooring and are hard to decipher when utilized.
5) Smaller rugs throughout are very slippery.
6) Oven was quite dirty.
Overall, the place was in a quiet neighborhood and within walking distance of the downtown. Would consider a return stay providing above issues were amended.
Thank you!
We are a fun loving family with 3 children who love new experiences. My husband and I both grew up in the driftless area and absolutely love this area. Not only is it gorgeous but everyone is friendly and helpful.
