đHistoric Mitchell House 1928 River View & Gardens
Welcome to the Wheeler Mitchell House
Nestled in the Don Juan Filhoil Historic District, the Wheeler Mitchell House sits right across from the Ouachita River, offering a peaceful retreat steeped in history. Originally part of a homestead dating back to the early 1800s, this home was built in 1928 by one of the homestead ownerâs sons. While the original homestead house no longer stands, the property retains its majestic oak trees, lively squirrels, and Southern charm.
Built before the levee was constructed, this home once stood along what was called South Beverport Street. Though it has been remodeled to include modern comforts, the original hardwood floors, doors, and woodwork remain, preserving its timeless character. The landscaping is mature and well-maintained, while the bathroom blends contemporary updates with classic charm.
With a new HVAC system, high-speed Wi-Fi, and memory foam beds, the home offers a comfortable and nostalgic atmosphere, reminiscent of grandparentsâ houses, especially with its classic kitchen design.
