Lovingly restored 1930s home with four bedrooms and two baths in quaint village Built in the 1930's this house was the childhood home of one of Bon Secour's most well known residents. Just up the street from the Swift -Coles historic river home this cottage is reminiscent of a time gone by. Hardwood floors and wooden walls, antiques and narrow stairs to the upper floor give the Taylor House the quaint and cozy feeling of home.
For those looking for a smaller place, the upstairs can be closed off and just the downstairs used unless company comes. The lower level has two bedrooms and one bath, a kitchen, den, living room, dining room and center hall.
Nestled among old Spanish moss covered oaks the Taylor House has a timeless appeal. The large yard boasts an arbor where one can enjoy the natural surroundings.
For those who love seafood the riverside community of Bon Secour is home to the area's shrimp boats and fishing docks. Visit any of a number of seafood houses along the river to chose your dinner, wild caught and fresh off the boat. If you would rather eat out the highly acclaimed Tin Top restaurant is right next door.
The community also boasts several churches including one quaint historic building next door and another across the street. It is also home to the beloved Swift School where local children have received public education since it's days as a one room school house in the early 1900's. (It is the oldest existing public school in the county.)
Even though the village is tucked away from the hustle and bustle it is just a quick trip out to either Foley, Magnolia Springs, Fairhope or Gulf Shores where a visitor will find everything from outlet shopping and antiquing to some of the world's whitest beaches.
For guests who want to come to the beach it is the perfect alternative to the crowds, traffic and high rents. The family can venture out to catch the rays on the beach then return to enjoy peaceful surroundings of this lazy little fishing village and the friendly warmth of the Taylor House.
The ease of booking this amazing home was great. It was spacious enough for all of us to enjoy the stay and it felt like home! Everyone loved it! My kids asked if we could rent it again for a non baseball related family vacation.
The Taylor house is meticulously maintained and incredibly clean. The house had a whole lot of charm. My family enjoyed our stay. Itâs a short drive to the beach, as long as you donât hit traffic! The four bedrooms space we needed. I would highly highly recommend this house
Our annual father sonf fishing trip was awesome!!! The hosts were great and they provided a clean, spacious home away from home. We had an internet issue and the hosts responded immediatly to our needs. They even gave us a gift certificate to the Tin Top Restaurant for our slight inconvenience. The house was perfect for our needs (four bedrooms) and the locations was super. Less than a mile from the boat ramp and right next to The Tin Top Restaurant. What else could you ask for??? Will definately stay there again!!!
I love to be able to get somewhere easily and fast but not stay right in the middle of it all. The Taylor House was just that place. The house was perfect for my group! And the best part. We only had to walk next door to get lunch or supper. The Tin Top Resturant was by far the best place to eat! Out of our four night we ate there 3 of them. We noticed a cat and her kitten live there as well. There was two cans of food In the cabinet and that was all so we bought more food for her since we were staying 4 nights and didnât want them to go without food ( would be nice to tell future guest so they can feed them as well) Will be coming back in the future!
A friend and I brought each of our daughters down for Montana Fouts' softball camp. We loved the peace and quiet the location offered, while still being close to everything. The house offered plenty of room for the four of us. The only major problems we experienced was vehicles blocking the driveway between the house and restaurant for extended periods of time. Also, we were unable to connect to the wi-fi at any point during our stay. Otherwise, it was great! I do not frequent Gulf Shores often, but this property will cause me to reconsider that in the future. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone that asked, and if I am in the area again in the future, this will be my first option! We greatly appreciate the hospitality and generosity of letting us rent. May God bless!!
We were so looking forward to some real rest and good seafood. The house was right next door to the best food ever, and that was great. The house itself was very nice, and it was pet friendly....
It was impossible to relax, however, after reading all the rules the owners set forth for us and our pet. We were hard pressed to keep our pet off the furniture, and used our own covers after finding none in the place specified. The reminder that there were antiques and that the home was the boyhood home of the owner made it hard to relax because we were constantly aware of the furnishings, the floors, etc. We were scared to death they would find a hair or a smudge and not refund our deposit.
The bathtub is slick as wet glass and one of my friends put a towel in the bottom to keep from falling. The towels were old, a bit ragged, so I guess that was ok. The coffee pot made exactly two cups at a time and I would have brought my travel pot if I had known.
Itâs a beautiful home, with a great yard, and I would suggest that pets would not be allowed if you are afraid your things will be ruined.
The restaurant next door had no respect for us. We had to get delivery drivers to move several times. The couches and beds were very uncomfortable. The power went out and no flashlights were available in the house. There was poison ivy growing in the flower bed.
Perfect place to stay to relax and take it easy. This house is next to a restaurant, so there is quite a bit of traffic with customers and deliveries, but it didn't bother us at all. The location is away from all the tourists, beach goers, and partiers, but at the same time, it is within easy driving distance to get anywhere. The owner lives close and is a joy to visit with, and the property manager is quick to answer any text that you send to her. We would definitely recommend the Taylor House!!
Wonderful comfortable cottage nestled in the Mobile Bay area
We loved the historic feel of the property, the space to spread out, and the yard (both front and back). The restaurant next door was excellent. We bought fresh seafood at a place on Bon Secour down the road. Really appreciated the hospitality and centralized location to Foley, Fairhope, Orange Beach, etc.
Loved staying here after a week in Destin. No crowds, no noise, no people! We stayed 5 days, close to shopping, beaches, adventures. Everything seems to be 20 minutes or less. Very clean neat old house beautifully decorated with antiques. Recommend if you are looking for something away from the tourist noise.
Our group loved our stay here and the house was perfect for our needs. It was a longer drive to the beach than we thought and the restaurant next door did block the driveway a few times but nothing major. Everything was clean and a lot of necessities were also included like coffee, soap, detergent, etc. Would definitely reccomend.
We had a fantastic experience!
We were in town for a short vacation with the family. The location is perfect. Itâs close to both Gulf Shores beach and Orange Beach (we spent time at both). Travel time to the beaches depends on traffic, however, so plan accordingly if you have activities booked. It was nice to be able to do all the fun activities on the beaches (also check out the USS Alabama, itâs worth it!) and go back to a quiet peaceful home at the end of the day. Tin Top Restaurant next door is packed all the time and there is a reason why... itâs delicious and service great! I highly recommend!
The Taylor House was clean and tidy, and Iâm pretty particular! The essentials are provided, and everything was either labeled or instructions were provided in a binder. Martha was very quick to respond to the one and only question we had regarding checkout procedures.
Iâm looking forward the next visit!
Renting this house through Martha was a breeze. No problem at all. Everything was as advertised. The house was clean and well equipped as well as centrally located for golf courses and the Tin Top restaurant next door was excellent. The only negative for the entire trip was that the golf Channel was not available on the Dish network but a small nuisance for a pleasant stay.
Perfect spot for our family to launch the boat for fishing in the local bays, short drive to the beach and we found 2 nearby golf courses for the guys to golf. Wonderful little home.
