It was beautiful, had trouble with air conditioning and it was fixed right away. Communication with owners was great
Would like to stay for a longer time
We were so pleasantly surprised to be staying in such a wonderful place. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The outdoor area was perfect for birdwatching. It was so quiet and lovely. We will happily return to cabañas Ginger.
This darling house is nestled out of town- 3 miles on dirt path (just get good directions/map). It is right next to a river and great wildlife - Coolest was a poison dart frog here. It was great for our family of 5. Dan and Shayla were very accomadating and the local house manger was helpful. She helped us set up a horseback/waterfall tour which was great. We had a great time and the surround area is awesome.
Beautiful property, comfortable cabin, great hosting - perfect!
This beautiful log cabin is perched in the hills where the deck catches the mountain breezes. Bring binoculars for birdwatching! We lived on that deck! The air conditioning is once for sleeping, and the kitchen is small but functional. The drive up to the cabin from the main house is very steep, but we made it up without 4 wheel drive since I am used to driving up hills in snow and ice! If you are not, rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Or take the bus (4) or taxi 14) from Quepos. Sheyla is an amazing host and made sure we were comfortable, including bringing up another pot for the kitchen (I cook a lot when we travel). Plus, she knows several guides in the area if you are interested in tours. We will definitely stay here again!
Our stay at this house in the jungle was absolutely magical! From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality of the host made us feel right at home. Communication was seamless, and the check-in process couldnât have been easier. The location is breathtakingânestled deep in the lush jungle yet conveniently close to local attractions and essentials. It truly offers the best of both worlds. Waking up to the sounds of nature and being surrounded by such beauty was an unforgettable experience. The house itself was immaculate and thoughtfully maintained. Everything we needed was provided, and it was clear the hosts put care into every detail to ensure guests feel comfortable. If you're looking for a peaceful escape that still feels luxurious, this is the perfect spot. We can't wait to come back and recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica!
My stay at Ginger Cabins was an experience of a lifetime. The mountain views and rivers that ran through the property provided a tranquil relaxing secluded experience. Quepos was a 15-20 minute drive which was perfect for evenings out and fine dining. Life moves at a slower much needed pace in Costa Rica. Yet had the amenities and excursions very near by for those that are adventurous. 10/10 would recommend to anyone planning a trip to Costa Rica
Great Place to see Central Pacific Costa Rica from
We stayed at the Ginger Cabin for our entire 10 days in Costa Rica. The cabin provided everything we needed. We were able to cook at the cabin if we didn't want to go out. Beautiful property and setting with constant sound of flowing water from the covered porch. We spent most nights on the porch recovering from the day and planning the next day. Looking back we should have spent more time at the river cabana on the property. We were greeted with a great basket of fruit on arrival. I can't say enough. We loved our stay here!
These cabins are a more authentic "campo" experience than you would be able to have in Manuel Antonio or Quepos. The drive is around 40 minutes to Manuel Antonio, just 15 minutes to the BM grocery on the edge of Quepos. You should definitely have 4w drive, especially if it rains! The caretaker Efrain is very sweet and helpful. The family added baby-proofing for our toddler on the deck, which was awesome. The views from the cabin are excellent and the property is gorgeous. The deck looks out into the jungle and you can hear the creek. Highlights included seeing poison dart frogs and making limeade from the fruit on the trees outside. Internet is only functional in the mornings from the cabins, but lots of places in quepos and Manuel Antonio have wifi. The 2 bedroom cabin is quite small and only sleeps 4. The AC was really nice after days at the beach.
This place and the owners went overboard to make sure we were happy! I'd go back tomorrow if possible! We asked for a grill and they brought up a new one! Thank you so much for the special stay!! Anyone looking for a nice place to stay this is it!!!!
We stayed at the cabin for four weeks. It was such a great experience. The place was spotless when we arrived. The family who takes care of the place are just the nicest people. Even though there was a language barrier we were able to communicate well. The owner of the place was very responsive on whatsapp, so everything we needed was quickly taken care of. He and his wife stayed close by for part of our trip. They were even taking us to town and back since we were without a car for last 9 days. Who does that?? :) Thank you Dan and Sheyla. We appreciate you hospitality very much. Peter and Ania
Extremely clean, comfortable, private & a slice of Jungle Heaven
This was literally home for us when we needed to vacate our home in the Central Valley for 10 days. The owners/hosts were exceptionally responsive with all booking inquiries, as well as immediately responsive when Waze took us 40 minutes out of the way & we needed help with re-direction. The caretakers were kind, friendly & very attentive, though thoughtful with allowing us our privacy. No matter the time of day/night, they watched for us to help with the gate or any other need. The cabin, property & amenities are so well cared for, & even for a simple cabina, the kitchen was stocked with just the right basics to allow for our extended stay to involve cooking most meals at home. The cabina is not only clean, it is "dry" & not riddled with mildew. Hot water is reliable & the water is potable--huge plus! The grounds & surrounding land are welcoming, full of beauty, nature & creatures to be discovered. We even encountered a rare Tayra from the weasel family, Blue Morphos and so much more. Taking a walk/hike right from the property is a must, with more than one option.
You should have a vehicle to access the property as it is in the country, however, it has such a great central location for sooo many day excursions that it's perfect! We would absolutely stay here, again. Pura Vida!
The property is a ways down a dirt road, through the palm oil plantations arriving at a lovely secondary tropical broadleaf forest. Our cabin was atop a hill with excellent views into the tree canopies and midstory for excellent birding. The property was clean, nicely furnished, and with an air conditioner for the more faint-hearted in our family group. The location is about 20 minutes to Quepo and good dining. We had a little bit of a hard time finding the cabin since GoogleMaps didn't have it appropriately located. But owners Dan and Sheila available to immediately corrected us. Part of our issue was that the sign with the name of the property was down -- easily remedied. Among the real treats of the property is a bbq location across the road and above a beautiful forest stream. What a lovely spot. We thoroughly enjoyed the "jesus christ lizards scooting across the stream pools on their hind legs. In summary, we loved the cabin and the surrounding landscaping. It was convenient and had abundant wildlife. We would go back to this location with no hesitation AND the owners were wonderful.
Perfect cabin nestled away in the jungle. Finding it was somewhat tricky but totally worth it and it is a short drive to Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park.
Beautiful Cabins in a remote rainforest. If you want to experience nature in a most perfect setting, this is your place. We had the opportunity to see Toucans in the morning from our porch. There were Blue Morpho Butterflies on the property - a large beautiful butterfly. There are walking trails and at night we walked to the highest point on the property and viewing the stars was spectacular. They have a Costa Rican hut along side a flowing river which is a nice secluded spot to sit and relax and commune with nature. The inside of the cabin is all wood and well maintained. The owner was on the property and was an excellent hostess and made sure all our needs were met.
We just returned from a 3-night stay at the Ginger Cabins. If you are looking to relax and escape the noisy, heavily touristed areas, this is the place for you! The cabin is nicely appointed, extremely clean and has everything you need. We stayed in the cabin with 2 bedrooms, 1 full bed and 1 with 2 twins. The house does have AC, which was great for sleeping. We enjoyed playing cards on the porch and listening to the night sounds of the jungle. Of note, the cabins are about a 10 to 15-minute drive down a dirt road off Route 34 so you'd need to add that to your drive times. Also, the dirt road isn't well marked so here's a tip: if coming toward Quepos, the turn off (dirt road) will be on the left but NOT the dirt road with the "Rainmaker" and the brown wooden carved sign, it's the next one. Your turn will have a bus shelter. For area recommendations, do go to Rainmaker Preserve, primitive rainforest with lovely swimming and get the lunch. Also, Manual Antonio is about 30-45 minutes and well-worth the visit. There are some pretty good gas/grocery/ stores not far from the cabin on 34. Also, we ate at a great soda not far down 34 towards Quepos on the right, the name escapes us but it had the word Palm in it. Enjoy!
**IMPORTANT** THIS PROPERTY IS 45 MINUTES AWAY FROM WHERE THEY SHOW IT IN THE LISTING
**PLEASE READ BEFORE THINKING TO BOOK THIS PROPERTY**
The property is listed in Quepos next to Manuel de Antonio on the website map, however it is actually between Parrita and Quepos, 3 miles down a dirt road, in the middle of no where, which takes 45 minutes in a taxi and thirty bucks to get to the listed location. There are basically no restaurants or stores in this area either and you need to speak Spanish to describe the location to any taxi, and we actually only had 1 of 8 taxi drivers know where the heck we were talking about needing to go. If you dont speak Spanish Im really not sure how you would find the location.
The property itself was adequate and as described. The man that lives on the same property with his family was accommodating, but he does not speak English either, so speaking Spanish here is really a must, especially if you need a taxi out, which you will unless you rent a car. You are no where near the beach either and the only place to walk would be along the dirt road that leads to it.
We were given the location the day we left the US and due to it being new years eve weekend, we had no other alternatives for places to stay. When I told the owner that the location does not match the description of the property he told me he wasnt sure why that was and he would fix it right away. The location is still the same some 3 weeks later though.
We tried to follow the VRBO support resolution pathway by contacting the owner to work towards a solution, which was please refund the amount of taxi fare that we have had to incur due to the fraud you have committed in your listing's location, however the owner told us he couldn't believe we thought we could stay in Quepos for the price he had listed, and that he would refund us zero nor do anything else to help. Yes, actually we did believe we could stay in Quepos for that price BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU DESCRIBED IN YOUR LISTING SIR. Also, how could we (or you potentially) know what costs are in a foreign country? We were visitors after all and have to put our trust in others when travelling.
All this said, we would not stay here again and I would caution anyone looking at properties of these owners (their names are listed and they have other properties). This listing really ruined our time in Manuel de Antonio and I hope this review prevents it from doing the same for anyone looking to potentially stay here.
My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights and loved it! The views were beautiful and the cabin was cozy. We loved sitting on the front porch listening to the rain. Having no TV was a nice break from day to day life. The river and lounge area were a perfect way to spend an afternoon. If you are looking for some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is your spot. We will be back again and hope to bring friends to stay in the other cabin!
Just returned from 3 weeks in the lovely Ginger Cabins. What a perfect antidote to anything that ails you...or doesn't! The cottage was perfect, simply and beautifully appointed. The porch is it's own outdoor living space and my daughter and I lived out there. At this time of year, the rain showers hit many days late afternoon and they were part of the magic of the place. The owners were incredibly kind and helpful and made our stay comfortable and effortless. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this very special property. If you're looking for the beauty of the tropical jungle, close enough to enjoy town while you take in the mountains surrounding Quepos, this is your destination!
There could be so much to say about this place. First it's not for everyone, you have to rent a 4X4 which raises the cost of your vacation by a fair margin, it takes a 30-minute drive every time you need to go somewhere (beach, restaurant, market). But if you're willing to accept that, you will have an extraordinary vacation.
Ginger Cabins has 2 cabins and one main house (owner's). We rented the main house for a month. A similar house on the beach, anywhere in Costa Rica, rents between 5 and 10K$ a month! It is located halfway between Parrita and Quepos, but in the back country. The brook that runs next to the main house is beautiful, clearest water, in the shade, ideal to refresh yourself in the middle of the afternoon. I often sat in it to read!
The property is squeaky clean, thanks to Efrain, the caretaker, who is the most wonderful man. He and his wife, Ania, know how to make you feel at home. For the first two weeks, the 4 of us were out and about every day, always wanting to see more beaches and attractions. Then I spent the last two weeks alone. I appreciated the serenity of the surroundings so much that I never went back to a beach.
Don't forget to ask Efrain to call Rafaël. For a minimal fee, he will show you his land further back in the woods with its wonderful water holes and then you can have a delicious tilapia at his restaurant (5 min. away). A must do adventure: a Segway Tour out of the port of Quepos. Get your coffee at Milagro in Quepos or Manuel Antonio, it's the best in Costa Rica!
I highly recommend Ginger Cabins to anyone. PURA VIDA!
This is a beautiful secluded spot in the mountain jungle near Quepos. Nearby river and waterfalls with monkeys and birds just outside the windows. I highly recommend for anyone that is looking for the real Costa Rican experience with al. The accommodations cabin life can offer. We'll be back, soon I hope!
Four friends wanted to experience Costa Rica! We did the beach, and farmlands near volcano then ended up in the jungle! This beautiful cabin was such a WONDERFUl experience , the pictures do not do justice! Just up the road is a neighbor that has a great kept swimming hole! The driveway is steep and a 4-wheel drive vehichle is a must, unless you like to hike up the drive. The caretaker is on the property if there is any requests, problems, questions. The owners are available (via phone/email) and very helpful as well! Great experience and VERY comfortable! An adventure that is a must to experience! We highly recommend this cabin!
