Early in the 1950âs a woman named Agnus Stucky owned the the Lodge and surrounding area including the Cataract Falls. Recognizing the magnitude and responsibility to operate and maintain such a grand property she sold the falls to the State of Indiana but kept the lodge as her home. She lived at the lodge and operated the property as a resort for guests visiting the magnificent falls. The lodge itself was was at the center of the small resort with a dozen or so small cabins around the lodge. As time marched on the cabins and lodge itself fell into disrepair and the property was divided up into lots and sold off. Since then each cabin either fell down or became uninhabitable and was removed leaving nothing of the resort except the Indiana Limestone structure now recognized as the Cataract Falls Lodge.
I purchased the property from its current owner in September of 2020 with a goal to bring back the resort. To offer a place for friends and families to gather and make memories exploring and experiencing all the wonders of this amazing State Park. Besides the original Limestone exterior, nothing during the renovation of the Lodge was left untouched. Its design is set up for people that love the outdoors and amenities of a home but want the simplicity of use a luxury hotel provides.
Located at the entrance to the Cataract State Recreation Area, guests can enjoy and experience the Park from the doorstep of the lodge. The lodge itself has luxury sleeping accommodations to include 3 queen beds, 2 Queen Murphy Beds and pull-out couches sleeping 16 with 3.5 baths. Adjoining fire doors within the lodge separates the lodge into three distinct individual suites to include a large bonus room at the center of the lodge. Each Suite can be rented individually for small group stays, romantic couples get-a-ways or combine the suites for family retreats, team building events and social gatherings.
I am pleased to say that now standing on the property is the Cataract Falls Lodge Wedding Veranda. Shown as the first photo in the listing the indoor outdoor space is perfect for group events. Itâs not a barn, itâs better. Inquire about our wedding package consisting of overnight accommodations and use of the entire grounds to include tables and chairs for up to 60 people.
The house was perfect for a getaway with my adult sons and their growing families. The outdoor spaces were abundant, no matter the weather, we could be outside.
The propety is large and has a lot of amenities. The property is updated and decorated very nicely. We especially liked that the property had a dishwasher. It is perfectly located right next to the cataract falls and you can hear the falls when you are sitting outside. The outdoor space is great and was amazing for enjoying the total solar eclipse.
We absolutely loved staying at the lodge! We had a group of 11 and everyone had a comfortable stay. The Murphy beds were great!
The Lodge is only minutes away walking to the falls. The property is huge! We had a ton of space to be outside grilling, playing corn hole, and be around the fire pits. We met Captain Bill while we were there and he was super welcoming and nice! We look forward to coming back to the lodge in the future!
This lodge is fully updated and extremely clean! Everything we needed was provided, even fire wood. Bill was available by messages if we had questions during our stay. Be sure to walk to see the beautiful water falls and hike the pretty trails. Great for multiple families- we were all able to hang out together, but could go to our own spaces at night. Each area has its own kitchen and bathroom. We went to an IU football game and it was about a 40 minute drive to Bloomington. We all really enjoyed our stay!
We absolutely loved our stay. Bill was so nice and attentive. The place was very clean and very roomy for all of us. We highly recommend this place. 10 . This is a must stay place.
âPerfect way to be together - but not TOO together.â The 3 separate but connected units gave 2 couples & a single plenty of privacy but also large perfectly equipped areas to dine and relax together. The location is private and beautiful with many outdoor gathering areas lid the bridge and falls just down the lawn. The space was immaculate - Iâd love to hire the cleaning staff! Finally, the thoughtfulness shown by the host in the layout, design, and furnishings of the Lodge is equaled only by his responsiveness to questions.
