Absolutely lovely home in a beautiful, peaceful setting. Very comfortable and all conveniences provided. Hostess replied quickly to our questions.
My husband, two sisters, brother-in-law, and I are already thinking weâd like to visit again!
Everything it was chalked up to be and more. Beautiful renovation with a lot of thought put into comfortable details. Peaceful location well situated amid local attractions. The host was wonderfully responsive on a couple of minor questions that came up.
Beautiful historical home! Easy access and communication into the home, we were able to access it 4 hours early. Everyone enjoyed the scenery, even seen a deer in the back yard. đđŠ
This was one of my favorite stays through VRBO. The property looks like a dream. The house was decorated to a T with every attention to detail. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. The complementary coffee was nice! The beds were comfortable and I slept like a baby! This house has so much history and was fun to learn about. Very glad to have found this place!
We stayed here for my wife's birthday. She wanted spend time with the family and go to the balloon festival in centrailia. This place worked out great. Plenty of room for our family. Relaxing in a nice clean and cozy home in the country. Would definitely recommend going here for a nice little getaway from reality and everyday life. All the amenities you need to enjoy a weekend getaway.
What an amazing property... with so much history. Suzzie was a great host and was quick to respond. The house was clean, beds were comfy and kitchen was well stocked. The kids enjoyed fishing and using the pedal boats. I highly recommend it. A perfect weekend getaway for the family!
Beautiful house, great view of lake and pond. Thereâs a wonderful sturdy wooden swing in front yard to sit and enjoy your coffee or a cocktail. The quiet was just right, the night bugs singing and the fireflies flashing, just a great place to unwind and put your feet up and not worry about a thing.
Everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the weekend. This place is well stocked with pots and pans, dishes, glassware, plates, etc. there were even some spices and seasonings, so if you forget, your meal wonât be tasteless! The yard was just right for the kids to play in and the older kids enjoyed the paddle boat and chasing those lightening bugs!
This property was amazing. It felt like a trip back in time to the country but with all the modern conveniences of today. It is beautifully decorated, comfortable and functional. We appreciated the cleanliness, the amenities and places to walk and explore. This house has history that is well preserved--both in writing and with antiques. We couldn't recommend it more! It's close to all the small towns in Southern Illinois.
Beautiful house supplied with everything; not far from places of interest!
This house was a perfect retreat! It was supplied with every possible thing you might need including wood for the
firepit. The owners are very responsive and check on you to make sure you are happy and don't need anything. The house itself, while being beautifully decorated, has much of the same wood and architecture preserved within. There's even a spot in the house that's dedicated to the history; which is actually a very interesting read. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. You name it, they had it, including a sink window that allows you to look out at the old barn and lake. The rooms were of great size with comfy beds, TV's & separate AC/Heater units. Deer were spotted in the morning and you can hear roosters from a distance. Perfect for enjoying your morning drink. This house is also not far from any of the wineries or places to see so that's another plus! We would highly recommend and hope to come back!
Had a lovely time! House is welcoming with many nice touches to make you feel at home. Cooked all our meals in the large well stocked kitchen! We enjoyed using the fire pit in the evenings. Fishing was good! Enjoyed fresh bass two nights! Saw deer each night by the lake. All questions were answered quickly by the owner. Would definitely recommend this property, and hope to return sometime!
My brother, Ted Beanland , and myself, Suzzie Beanland Thieke, worked for the Kimber's and Eddleman's for many years starting in the late 60's and early 70's .Jack and Jacqueline Kimber Eddleman were second parents to us. They loved us as their own children. Before they passed, they left the property to my brother and myself. We loved them as parents as well. Jacqueline always wanted to share this beautiful property and the homeâs history with everyone she could before she passed. She tried to get it on the historical society but was unsuccessful. The house sat vacate for about 10 years. It was in great need of repair and love. The decision was made to renovate. So, my husband , Mike Thieke, and myself worked on this house long weekend for a year except for about 8 weekends. My brother helped when he could. We could not be prouder or love this property any more than the original owners or everyone that lived and grew up in this house. We truly hope you enjoy the property and history that it has to offer.
This home was built by Valentine Kimber and relatives in 1857. It is the third home built on this property. The first was a small cabin down by the end of the lake because of a great spring. The second was built directly behind this home. They harvested all the wood off of the property to build this beautiful house. They migrated from Pennsylvania as carpenters and ministers to Union County in the early1850's. It originally had five bedrooms, three fireplaces, two sitting rooms, 2 small closets, and no kitchen. They would cook in the house that was directly behind this one. The old outhouse still stands along with the chicken coop, hog barn, packing shed, corn shed, tool shed, and the beautiful red barn that was built in 1900.
We hope that you enjoy the antiques and reading about this Kimber Home and its wonderful history. It is a very peaceful, tranquil, relaxing, nature at its finest, and the picturesque views. Not to mention is you love fishing then this is the place for you. There is a 5-acer stocked lake with bass, blue gill, and catfish. We guarantee that you will catch some fish.
