Great location, but facilities a little disappointing
The apartment was fine for the budget but the equipment and contents were a little tired and dated.
In the kitchen there was no cooker and one of the two large gas hobs was broken. Pans, crockery and cutlery were very well used and could do with renewing. Whilst we weren't expecting a 'welcome pack' for the price paid, it would have been nice to see some washing-up liquid, bin-liner, packet of salt or sugar etc. maybe left over from the previous guests. There was nothing - not even a sponge or dishcloth.
Whilst no fault of the owners, the electricity in the block failed on four different occasions, one of which lasted for several hours into the evening. The WiFi was generally OK but very slow at times.
Evenings on the balcony would have been really lovely, except that the apartment block seemed to attract guests intent on sharing their music tastes with everyone else. On at least three nights we were disturbed by loud thumping music up to 1am, even with the windows shut. On other occasions, we had to again shut ourselves in to avoid pungent cooking smells drifting inside.
The beach is just a few steps down from the apartment and would be really lovely, except for several waste water pipes dribbling onto the sand giving off an unpleasant odour. The sea looked clean though and we all enjoyed a swim.
Taghazout is an interesting little place but not really suitable for children. The road outside the apartment was being dug up in chaotic fashion leaving traffic to cope with a muddy and rocky surface, interspersed with large mounds and holes where diggers had left work half-done. The small town has lovely interesting little alleys and shops, although haggling prices can be exhausting and is not to everyone's taste. Feral dogs and cats abound, although they are quite tame. You'll frequently have to drive around a sleeping dog lying in the middle of the road.
It seems ambitious construction plans in and around Taghazout are in progress, although I only saw workers 2 days out of 7 and I imagine it will be quite some time before it's complete.
Everywhere you park in Morocco there always seems to be a 'guardian' ready to charge a few Dirhams when you return. I'm still not sure if they have any 'official' status or whether they're just local chancers skimming loose change off gullible tourists. The rate seems to be about 10 Dirhams a day. It's the same with parking outside the apartment. It's not much money but it does get annoying everywhere you go.
