Home Sweet Home, minutes to Great Lakes Naval Base
Home Sweet Home is located 35 miles north of Chicago; 53 miles south of Milwaukee, WI; and just 4 miles east of Great Lakes Naval Base. Chicago is a 45-minute train ride away. O'Hare is a 30 to 40-minute commute. Great America amusement park and shopping venues, including Gurnee and Kenosha outlet malls, are all within 20 to 30 minutes away. Location makes this home an ideal respite for Midwest sightseeing.
Very quiet and peaceful 2 Bed/1 Bath house with backyard garden. Everything you need for a small family whether doing things around greater Chicago or coming to Great Lakes for a graduation. 5 minutes or so to Lake Bluff METRA train station, shopping for groceries/necessities/food less than that. Owner has a vegetable garden out back with plenty of small wildlife that frequents it as a safe habitat. Would definitely stay again.
House was very clean and neighborhood was nice and quiet. Shower had great water pressure. Sectional in living was very comfortable, as were beds. Kids bedroom worked well for my two boys. Thank you!
This house was great! We were here for Navy Graduation. 12 minutes to the base. Everything we needed was at the house and then some! Couldnât have asked for a better experience. Wonderful host.
We stayed for 8 nights as I had surgery at a nearby hospital. The bathroom was large and fully stocked with nice linens and options for everything we needed. The kitchen had everything from crock pot and cheese grater to basic condiments. Beds were comfortable with nice linens. Hosts were nearby and popped over immediately to shovel and salt when needed. Very nice washer and dryer, which was a great convenience. Can't say enough about this great rental and its host.
We were able to check early, and thank goodness! We were there and hit and a half and my daughter came and said she killed a bug . Turns out it was a bed bug and she was bit on her face. She was staying in the back bedroom.
After calling and talking to the property owner and telling her we had to leave and couldnât stay and asking if she had another property available. She stated sheâs not had a problem with bed bugs and insinuated that we brought them in. Which is not the case. I was able to book a hotel room for the remainder of our stay without incident and no bed bugs. If you rent this property beware. We were in Chicago for our daughterâs Navy Graduation.
The location was perfect for our adventure to Six Flags, fishing charter on Lake Michigan, and a day trip to Kenosha WI. House was clean and had cute front yard and most rooms have been updated. The 2 single beds were a tad short for my 6' 2" boys, but would be perfect for others. It was a great price and I highly recommend it.
This happened to be a prime location for us visiting family for the holiday. The outdoor space was not as useful as I had anticipated as the backyard is full of raised beds and furniture. The renovated bathroom did not have a bathtub or counter space but was useful and enough for me, my husband, and our three youngest children. The bathroom closet and under sink shelf provided plenty of storage. There were ample towels and washcloths provided as well. The bedrooms had wonderful black out window shades, night stands, and dressers or desks to place our luggage on. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was appropriate for Chicago late fall. There were closets with laundry baskets and clothes hanging space. We used the washer and dryer and appreciated the provided laundry detergent when we noticed we forgot to pack any. The kitchen had all the necessary dishes and utensils. There was not much space to pack away our food into cabinets or a pantry but it worked out just fine. The TV was simple to use and log into the streaming services we wanted. The living room gave us plenty of space to relax on comfy furniture as well as spread out puzzles and toys on the floor. The neighborhood does not have sidewalks but is very walkable. The neighbors are friendly and the houses are well-maintained.
Overall, we enjoyed our weeklong stay here. We loved having the full use of a house with a driveway for our rental car. The house was fairly clean upon arrival and the homeowner was very responsive to questions we had. The hardwood floors were a bit squeaky between the master bedroom and bathroom. I would have preferred a bit stiffer a pillow since the ones here were very flat. Just minor things like the pilllow but we would definitely stay here again if weâre on this side of town.
This property is a little gem. Not more than 10 minutes from the entrance to PIR graduation without the hassle of hotel living. Heinen's grocery is right around the corner and there are many restaurants to choose from. I will miss El Norte! Loved the brand new towels, soft and fluffy, and also the bedding was super! Slept great and visited in a homey comfy living room. Yes, I would totally do this again!
We rented this home so we could enjoy PIR weekend with our sailor. Our other children came with us so it was perfect for the 5 of us because we were able to relax and enjoy what little time we had. It is very close to the base and there are plenty of stores around for whatever you need. The neighborhood was safe and friendly - the neighborhood kids even came and asked my kids to play outside with them.
The house is clean. Just basic inside. The only mirror is in the one bathroom. The kitchen was ok but missing a few basic things like a spatula. Washer and dryer were great but I couldn't get the dishwasher to work. Overall, it served its purpose and the location was good for us.
We stayed at this property for about a month and a half and it was great! Hosts were communicative and available when issues or questions came up. Convenient location and quiet neighborhood.
