A fishing haven! The House is on a private canal leading directly into Bayou Barataria. You can fish right off the dock in the back of the house. The dock is a great place to have your fishing charter pick you up. If you have a boat, there is a ramp located directly across the street at Joeâs Landing (for a minimum fee). Joeâs also offers bait, tackle, gas, ice & convenience store items. Then you can tie up the boat at the back of the house for the duration of your stay. The dock can accommodate 2-3 boats. The City of New Orleans is about an hour away. There you can eat at great restaurants, visit museums, and listen to some amazing local music. Donât want to go to the city? The huge, covered space down under the house is equipped with sitting areas, gas grill and gas griddle for your use. Directly adjacent is a large greenspace for family fun. You can just sit back and enjoy the slow pace of the bayou, eat at one of the local restaurants in Lafitte, or visit hiking trails in the Jean Lafitte National Park. Nearby Park De Families has picnic area, play equipment and splash pad for the younger ones. If you need a break from cooking, some of the local restaurants will cook your catch for you, after you clean it.
This home was perfect for our family vacation. The home is beautiful and looks even more beautiful in person. We hope to stay again and do some fishing. We enjoyed the airboat alligator tour, that is conveniently near by. Thank you Ernest for your quick responses to my questions!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home on the bayou. Decorating, cleanliness, location and exceptional communication are all top notch. We were able put our boat in across the street and keep it tied up on our own dock. We are looking forward to a return trip.
We booked this 3 night stay at this Bayou Retreat as an impromptu getaway with the family. We wanted to be right on the water with a dock that we could fish from without needing a boat, be able to fish anytime day or night and to not have to pack up our gear to go to a public fishing pier. From the photos, we were anticipating an average fishing camp; but to our surprise Ernie and Deniseâs place was so much more! The kitchen was stocked as good as my home kitchen with top of the line small and large appliances, plenty of spices and staples. I even brought my own hot water tea kettle from home; but was surprised that they already had one as well as a great Keurig coffee machine with a large assortment of pods to choose from. Our hosts went above and beyond with having a large King cake for us to enjoy during our stay. There was plenty of seating around the dining table and at the kitchen bar. The living floor plan was an open concept and well decorated with southern charm. We all had our turn in the massage reclining chair too. There were many modern conveniences such as phone and Apple Watch chargers in several locations, an exterior elevator, washer and dryer, nice outdoor furniture, sun covered upper deck, video game machines, board games, TVs in all the bedrooms, comfortable memory foam mattress and bedding, ample towels and linen, outdoor fish cleaning station, nice gas grill and a boiled seafood table. There was plenty of off street parking and a well lighted exterior. Directly across the street, was a very convenient boat launch and a fishing store for bait and ice. The hosts were very gracious, great at recommendations and communication.
Needless to say, we enjoyed our stay and had a very restful retreat with good memories spent with the family! We would highly recommend staying at the City Slickers Retreat and look forward to a return trip in the future. Thank you for a great time and sharing your beautiful place!!
This was a family vacation for a gymnastics meet in the city and this house was perfect. It has everything you think you would need and more. It was during Mardi Gras and upon arrival there was a giant king cake, beads and even King Cake Flavored coffee cups that were so delicious!!! Our children were so excited and couldnât wait to have cake right away. It was such a thoughtful touch, thank you Ernie! The house was fully equipped with chargers, music, TVs, all the essentials for a fabulous craw fish boil (giant cooker), sâmores by the fire pit and chairs for the deck to sit and have coffee overlooking the water. Being able to have spices, water, tea, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, towels, gallon bags⊠you get the idea⊠all available for use was so nice! It is the little things that make such a difference. Truly the owners thought of everything. The house was decorated so beautiful and the artwork added special touches. Fishing into the canal our kids had a blast! Next time we will bring our boat! Ernie gave us great recommendations and was a huge help giving us ideas on what to do and where to go. Iâve rented houses multiple times on VRBO and he was by far the best host. We canât thank you enough and look forward to renting from you again!
