Very cozy comfy homey! Loved the location, allowed us to walk to town easily. Beds were comfy and owners thought of everything that travelers might forget about. Will definitely come back!!
The property was nice however it was located right on Hwy 20 and it was very noisy. The window air conditioners ( that were not needed) did not allow the window to be closed and therefore limit the noise.
The property was definitely within walking distance to downtown which was super convenient.
The property was as advertised and the beds were super comfortable!
This is a quaint 1800's house that is just a short 5 min walk from downtown Galena. Location is fantastic. Hosts were very easy to work with and had excellent communication! Cozy 2 bed with sitting area - no TV, but lots of games and spots to curl up with a good book. Narrow stairs up to unit as mentioned in description. The unit is a bit drafty and had some ladybugs during our stay - but expected in a home of this age. Also to note -- is right on one of the main streets and near train tracks, so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs, as it can get noisy. Overall a wonderful place to stay while visiting Galena!
This is a well-kept older building near the center of town, just across the river from the historic town center and direct access to the Galena River Trail. There are stairs to get up to the unit on the second floor. The rooms were comfortable and all of the fixtures work well for their age. It's definitely worth the stop if you're going to be in Galena or want to explore the greater Driftless region.
We traveled to Galena for the annual country market weekend and the location was perfect! While we drank our coffee before walking down the hill to the market we noticed lines and lines of cars trying to find a parking spot. The cars just kept coming in all weekend long! This place was the perfect spot for a zero stress weekend! Super cute bedrooms and easy walking to all Galena has to offer. Five stars!!!
Would definitely stay here again. Great location. Beautiful old home.
The part of the house that this listing is, is located on the second floor. Stairs are steep and narrow. The rooms are large and furnished with vintage and antique furniture. It is very cozy.
The shared living room was very nice for visiting. An extra effort was made to have items you might need that you didn't think of available. Like ear plugs...Rt. 20 is very noisy at night and the train tracks are close. The one husband that was bothered the first night, used the ear plugs and slept well the next few. Very clean.
Historic property next to another historic property in an historic town. So much easily accessible by walking or by car. Practically on the Galena River Trail.
We enjoyed our time at this location and the owners were super communicative and very helpful. One thing I didnât understand from the listing is that the bottom floor of this home is empty currently. also didnât understand that the bathroom would be in the hallway and not enclosed in the two room and sitting area suite. Place was clean, and the beds were very comfortable. You can walk to town in 12 minutes and we enjoyed our stay.
Everything was perfect. The house was very cute, and cozy. Its literally a frw blocks from the downtown area of Galena. Perfect place to stay! The host was also very accommodating, and polite. Will definitely be staying again in the future
The house was beautiful. I loved all the original items in the house, and it definitely felt like stepping back in time a little without taking away from the modern comforts of today. The hosts were also very responsive and helpful throughout the booking process and the trip itself. They left cute little goody bags in each bedroom of some food items, and had some extra items in the house that you might have forgot at home (tooth brush, floss, shampoo/conditioner, and even ear plugs!) I love Galena, and weâll definitely be back to stay at the Driftless Get Away again.
My wife and I are originally from the Galena area as we both grew up here. When I left for the Air Force in 2007 my wife joined me in South Carolina in 2009. After 4 year of active duty we decided to move closer to home which was still 5 hours away in Edwardsville, IL near St. Louis. I have always worked in IT and my wife worked for the State of Missouri for the DNR taking care of the Katie Trail.
My wife and I purchased this property in 2017 in hopes to make it a airbnb/VRBO rental with a small retail shop in the bottom of the building. With my job going fully remote, we have recently moved back to the area where we can fully dedicate time to being hosts. We love this atmosphere of the small town and moving away has made us appreciate coming back to it more.
We look forward to meeting new people and hope you enjoy our town as much as we do.
It was actually my fathers idea to purchase the building. It had great bones and great location for what we wanted to accomplish here. The Suite was the first part of the renovation and we hope to have the shop set up to open here in the Spring of 2021 with details to follow.
Some unique benefits is the off Main Street feel. You are still only a 5 min walk downtown, but dont have to worry about parking or the crowds of being downtown. The Space offers a full suite where a family or friends can enjoy each other's company. For this reason we have decided not to add t.v.'s in the suite as we want people to come together here and spark conversation. There is so much to do in the town you wouldn't have time anyway.
15 min drive to Chestnut Mountain. 5 min walk to downtown 20 min to Dubuque IA
