We enjoyed a perfect weekend break at the Cube on the coast at Kakanui.
Staying at the Cube is a unique beach experience. The house is well appointed and very functional, it is contemporary, comfortable and fresh, and the ever changing sea view is spectacular from the upstairs living space.
Lovely property. Looks exactly like the pictures online. The nearby beach is really nice. Easy walk to get there. We did Learn to Surf Kakanui, which was a highlight of our trip. The Cube was so perfect for our family. We loved our stay. Thank you!
Loved the place. Very smart and beautifully furnished. Loved watching the waves roll by. Kakanui is a very quaint little spot. Only issue is that from the photos I thought there was direct access to the beach from the house but that wasn't a problem other than managing expectations. Highly recommend it!
We had a great stay at the Kakanui Cube. The house is well-designed, modern, clean, with all the amenities you need (laundry, sharp knives, comfortable bed, plenty of space). We slept so well with the sea air nearby, and woke up early each morning to catch the magnificent sunrises. Equally enjoyable are the sunsets â the way Kakanui is situated you can enjoy both over the ocean. The house is in a rural area so WiFi bandwidth can be an issue â it may not be practical to expect to be on zoom calls or stream video for several hours a day.
We very much enjoyed the quietness of the neighbourhood, the great views, the super comfortable beds, fabulous bathroom, the architecture of the home. Everything was there to make our stay comfortable and very pleasant. We did yoga with a view.
This is a great choice if you would like to stay in a really well-designed, comfortable, well-appointed, beautifully furnished property. Expansive views of the sea and countryside. Quiet seaside location within a short drive to Oamaru. Owners were easily contacted and really helpful. Fab choice of property if you would like a quiet, comfortable seaside place to stay.
Was seeking a quiet retreat for a few nights and this property delivers. Quality accommodation, great location and fabulous ocean views. Would recommend to others.
The location was great, the view spectacular. However, this did not justify the $$$ of our 2 night stay.
The ramp from the driveway to ground level looked great but posed a safety issue as there was no hand rail to hold. The house looked like it was lived in between guests by the owners, as the guest towels had bleach stains on them, were unmatched, no face cloths supplied, we had to hunt in the storage cupboards, no hand towels, the tea towels were stained, and no dish cloths supplied. Also no microwave, we could only use one of the pots (which had a copper bottom) due to the fact the cooktop was an induction top. Both bathroom doors having no locks posed a problem, especially as one door accesses a bedroom. We were told we had permission to use the washing machine, but weren't told where this was as it was not in the house. It was found in a seperate room accessible only from outside.
While there it happened to rain and everytime the front door was opened it leaked out of the door, onto the inside floor which caused the floor to become very slippery.
Definitely benefit putting electric blankets on the beds as it does get rather cold downstairs compared to the upstairs living
We live in Queenstown and take every opportunity to come to Kakanui for the relaxation and the surf. We've also grown to love Oamaru and the fabulous old precinct and great restaurants nearby.
