The cottage was originally a bushman's cottage for colonial single men working in and felling the native bush in the Ruahine Ranges. It has been renovated with recycled timber and windows and still includes the original small windows in the front that are only held up with brass pegs. There is a sunny verandah with a table and chairs with its own charming garden. 50 metres down the road is Birdwoods Gallery where you will find coffee, ice creams, lunch and a sweet shop. Special conditions: There are no cooking facilities. See our 2 larger cottages (Middle and Far) which have kitchens. Tennis court on site. Rackets and balls available.
Had a wonderful stay in this truly delightful little cottage, the hosts were most accommodating and can highly recommend this as a place to stay for anyone planning a trip to this region.
A lovely spot and a lovely cottage. Check-in and out were seamless with excellent breakfast fare. Just 2 kms into town so everything readily available. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again and thoroughly recommend.
If you love historic cottages and want to relax in a beautiful garden setting then this is the place to come. I enjoyed the summer evening sitting on the veranda eating our dinner. The bed was comfortable and both nights I had a great sleep. I recommend it.
Such a beautiful property, convenient to everything you could want in the area. Wonderful welcoming and generous hosts. There was breakfast offered and bikes to borrow. Thank you!
Hard to believe this place began as a bushman's hut in the Ruahines. It's been beautifully restored and enhanced and was a very comfortable base to explore this part of Hawkes Bay. Many thanks Margie and Denis for allowing us to share your wonderful property.
Loved this little cottage.
private and so quiet,
we were there in maybe one of the hottest weekends, the only thing missing was a fan, to help cool us down in the cottage, however we took advantage of the large shade trees on the property. Definitely recommend.
This property was everything and more than expected
The property was private quiet with a country outlook, the accommodation was clean and tidy, with fruit, breakfast cereal, bread and spreads, juice and milk provided.
My husband and I would recommend this accommodation.
Margie and Denis were friendly hosts, the property was set in beautiful gardens and the surrounding area was lovely. Havelock north is very scenic and it was unfortunate that we did not have a little more time to explore. Thanks and best wishes to our hosts. Lyndall and David
Lovely little character cottage with private garden in a country-side setting. The ideal place to unwind for a few days. Havelock town is just a short drive away with plenty of bars and restaurants. Whenever we visit, our top pick is Malo's. The food and service cannot be faulted. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with hosts Denis and Marjie and highly reccomend Endsleigh Cottages.
We have lived on our property since we married in 1968. The bushman's cottage, or The Little Cottage, is in our garden. Denis is a retired lawyer and Margie is a retired Speech and Drama teacher. Denis grew up on a farm in Elsthorpe, Central Hawkes Bay, whereas Margie grew up in Wellington, Christchurch and Opunake in Taranaki. We have always loved renovating old houses and saving our New Zealand heritage.
Handy to village, walking and bike trails and wineries. Free bikes. Being set in a garden means guests are surrounded by birdsong. Sometimes our donkeys, Humphrey and Winston, will call out too. They love a carrot. On request guests can walk around our garden or borrow tennis racquets for a game on our grass court. It's not Wimbledon standard but lots of fun.
