This place had everything we needed from the moment we got there from the little bush walk to the absolute gem of the hot tub & everything else in between that would satisfy ones need for relaxation, rejuvenation & regeneration.
Lovely secluded place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Be aware that there is a walk through bush to get to the hut and the toilet and bathroom is in a seperate building. The outdoor bath is fabulous!
We had and incredible experience, thr location was easy to find and extremely reserved.
I would definitely book it again!!
Thank you Mark for the easy communication and friendly smile!!!
Loved the bush location and convenience to local attractions. Enjoyed the outdoor bath, hot tub in the bush, movies on the big screen while in bed, cd player and fireplace.
Amazing spot, close to Matakana but also very private. Hot tub and outdoor bath/shower are amazing and fire and projector inside was a great addition to the house. Would definitely stay again!
A beautiful cabin that has everything you need and more, the outdoor bath, shower and hot tub were all surrounded by the peaceful bush and private. A short drive to the village.
Very nice stay. Would recommend.
A wonderful find surrounded by beautiful bush. Inside a airy space, stylishly designed with thoughtful touches. Every window frames the surrounding bush and the outdoor shower, bath and spa make it feel like a magical retreat. Better than I could have imagined.
Had a wonderful stay at the Bush Hut! The location, property and environment were breathtaking. Located in the bush, you are surrounded by nature. Our stay was peaceful, relaxing and exciting! Mark and Sue were wonderful and excellent hosts. Mark is a local designer and built most of the furnishings inside and outside the home! Can not recommend the Bush Hut enough! It is a must stay if you are traveling near Matakana!
A beautiful property in a stunning natural bush setting. We loved exploring the bush paths, listening to the babbling stream and admiring the swifts and the fantails. Fun little path through the bush to the beautiful hot tub, but soaking in the outdoor bath at night with the trees lit up around you was just special. We appreciated all the details in the cabin, including the timber coasters and candle holders, diverse music selection, and the movie projector was a fun touch too. Will definitely be back.
The 200 mtr walk through the bush to accommodation was a bit of a surprise, but delightful, never seen so many nikau palms in my life. The bathroom and toilet was outside around the side of cottage, needed shoes as it rained overnight. Mosquitoes are a problem for me but host kindly supplied can of bug spray.Fabulous double yolk eggs and ciabatta bread also supplied. Internet almost non existent but Xmas Day and Boxing day was good then nothing after that but we were prepared. Made full use of outdoor bath but the hot tub was another 250 mtr walk so didn't bother with it.If you want solitude this is perfect.
Stunning location, nestled into the middle of the bush. Cozy bed and loved the outdoor shower and bath. Beautiful spot to slow down, listen to the birds and enjoy the beautiful trees. A very unique experience. Host went the extra mile in helping with the check in - thank you! Would love to do it again sometime.
Fabulous Location.......
recommend some form of lighting especially if you turn up once its dark as you wouldnt know where to go!! They do have a tourch to use once you arrive at the cabin but still not really ideal if you go out at night.
Bath tub amazing ... hot tub amazing but kind of a add on... when we were relaxing could hear dog running up near the tub after its owner threw the ball and then could hear lots of talking from people at this property...., not very private nor relaxing whilst this is going on....description that its a 4/ 5 min walk also needs to be added.
Bathroom was really stinky and kitchen sink needs a good scrub but was overall clean in towels and bedding.
Mark and Sue great host when we messaged them about us coming in earlier they messaged an hour before check in to say it was ready accomadating this request, having no hot water first thing on Saturday morning we messaged Mark and he changed over the bottle within minutes but might want to check bottle before people arrive because no hot water to wake up to again isnt ideal however Mark was awesome and cut wood for us as hubby has hurt his hand.
Overall experience at Bush hut was awesome not worth the price per night though.

We spent a weekend here and loved everything about this property. Absolutely tranquil and relaxing place to rejuvenate and just switch off. Everything in the description reflects the reality and Susie and Mark are very kind, friendly and accommodating. Would love to come back again đ
We ended up cutting our stay short as our expectations for this price point were not met - this is the underlying factor which our opinion was based off. We thought it would be best to raise our experience and suggestions to improve the property privately with the owners but received an indifferent response. Recommendations:
- Solar lights for the path (even some signage) for late arrivals. It was a long walk in pitch black darkness and with no signage towards the bush hut on the trail we were unsure if we were going the right way. It was very unsettling and highlighted a concern for guest safety.
- The listing should make guests aware to pack light as the path is narrow & unpaved, impractical for large suitcases.
- Install a bathroom fan timer and heated towel rail. The later is a must because there are so many amenities at this property which require a towel.
- Undertaking a more thorough clean, inside & out. We understand that this is an experience with nature but for how much is being charged, coupled with a service fee, we expected better.
Overall not for us, a step above camping we can see how it may appeal to others.
I run a Homewares business from the property with many examples set up in the bush hut. You can visit My Showroom on the way to the hut just off the main trail. check out my work on Instagram workshop73nz
