Clean property, accurately described as in listing. Enjoyed our stay here for Memorial Day weekend. Just keep in mind the high tide can reach under the camp. So be careful what you leave underneath overnight.
This cottage had a beautiful view and was so peaceful. Couldnt beat the location. But there were a few issues.. the front door knob was broken so you couldnt lock it or open and shut with out the knob falling off. The bedroom with the 2 queen beds had dirty sheets with hair all over them! The water smelled like metal and had a yellow tint to it and made our skin smell like metal or rust or rust. Cottage is as advertised.
Nice kitchen.
Beds are comfortable.
Nice view of the bayâŠ.a bit farther away than I thought it would be.
State Park just a few minutes away.
Beautiful.
Host was very helpful.
Great place to get away from it all! Very safe, quiet and serene. Accommodations made us feel comfortable and very much at home. Gorgeous sunsets from the back screened in porch. State park is just a minute down the road for boat launching or going to the beach. Southern boiler and pit were put to good use on this trip with all the seafood caught in the bay. The owner is awesome to work with!

Swamp Place
It is in the middle of nowhere. I asked for a beach front,it is a marsh front. The nearest water was at least 2 miles. I asked for a place close to Lake Charles, it was 2 hours away. We went with the sole purpose of attending my grandson's collegiate rodeo. he could not stay with us because it was too far. away. but the host was great!!!!
Legit 3 bedroom/2 bath house. Well stocked with dishes/utensils/grills/boiling pots etc. The screened front and back porch were our favorite places - north wind one evening made north side a little cool. House is (of course) elevated with very relaxing views of the marsh/Vermillion Bay on north-west side or the woods on the other side. Nice trees with lots of Spanish moss added to it all. Very peaceful and restful for my wife and me. Mosquito repellent is a necessity once outside the screen porch(es). Conveniently close to public boat launch/docks where we bought some good shrimp off a boat and met up with fishing guide. Owner of house came by on his way out fishing and we had good visit. He was kind enough to gift us a couple of red fillets on his way home - we caught some good specs the next day so we returned to Texas with some good food and memories. We'll definitely want to go back.
First, the place was immaculate and fully stocked. There are moss-covered oaks everywhere and the back porch faces to beautiful marsh and you can see Vermilion Bay in the distance. The front porch is also very nice. The interior appears to have been updated very recently and everything is shiny. The place was spotless! There is a cool old clawfoot tub. The state park is only about 2 miles away. It's a very quiet area.
Other miscellaneous comments:
There is no street address on the property that we could find. We had to drive up and down the highway several times to find the camp. Maybe there is a reason for this??
I would add a small breakfast table and lose one love seat.
It rained the first night and the properties up and down Hwy 319 flooded. There was 16"-18" of standing water under the camp that only slowly receded. This was not a big deal to us but I did have to walk through this water to get to the closet under the camp. The water did not affect our trip and was nowhere close to getting into our vehicle.
In closing, we WOULD definitely stay at this camp again with no hesitation but the owner may want to make these minor adjustments. I hope my comments are constructive for that is my intention.
We were never given the code to the lock box or wifi password by VRBO. Had to contact host. He was kind and provided information that helped us. That is where the review stops being positive. House was filthy with cat hair everywhere, all over the rugs, balls of it under furniture. There was cat hair on the Blackstone griddle and old grease and bits of food from whomever used it last. The house is tiny. Bedrooms tiny, one walk in shower, one clawfoot tub. Bathrooms were clean (other than cat hair everywhere). The 3rd bedroom occupants didn't have access to any bathroom unless they used the other's when available. 2 bedrooms are elevated 6" from main floor. The step up or down is a trip hazard. Living room is cramped with furniture. You have to move a sofa forward for the refrigerator door to open. No closets, instead chest of drawers. They are full of the owners items. The coat closet is stuffed full of the owners items. You have to live out of your suitcase. Screens are ripped. Beds sleep ok. Bring water, house water stinks. Lower level subject to high tides and flooding. House more of a fishing camp. Filthy house, says no pets but cat hair proves otherwise. Nails sticking up on deck floor, we drove them back down. Fridge and freezer full of owners food. No ice maker. Would NOT recommend staying here.
