Find yourself on Sapelo
From arriving at the dock through our stay on the island, every part of our short Sapelo adventure was memorable. The ferry rides were fun and help set the stage for the uniqueness that awaits. Lucy and Mike were super helpful and responsive getting us set up. Lucy gave us a ride from the ferry dock and info about the apartment and island. They live below so can be found if needed. The apartment is clean, neat, well appointed and organized. Definitely would stress bringing your food needs, since the island store is more about the basics. We found the books about Sapelo super helpful to provide a historical perspective but also put words to the personality and palpable mystique the island possesses. We were ready to explore and having an included island car and bikes makes all the difference. We didn’t have enough time in our 2 days to see much of the North end of the island. We’ll do that on the next visit. We did fit in a trip to the mansion and did a self guided tour, visited Nanny Goat Beach, the light house, and post office dock area at sunset. I did a solo bike ride to Raccoon Bluff which gave a greater sense of remoteness and I found the island is larger than I thought. Seeing 4 pileated woodpeckers very near each other was a nice surprise. A highlight for sure was sunrise at Cabretta beach access with no other humans as far as the eye of this human could see. A bald eagle sat perched in a dead tree not far from the wooden bridge. So serene. The island overall has such a laid back time forgotten feel. The sense of peace enables one to clear the mind and reconnect. Forget about mainland life for awhile. Thank you Lucy and Mike for your hospitality and providing all that is needed for such a memorable trip!
Great place to unwind
We had a great couple of days on Sapelo Island. The accommodation is quite comfortable, and the property owners were friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed sitting outside with a book and enjoying the quiet surroundings with our dog. She loved her walks and seeing the ocean for the first time. Wonderful place to take a break!
What a great place
My two sons and I took a guys trip to Sapelo . We had a blast while there. Now,We are planning another trip for the summer. Lucy and Mike are wonderful people. We felt as if we were staying with family while there. The car that was included was a huge bonus. We were able to go where we wanted when we wanted. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the whole experience.
Peace & Quiet
As advertised, this was a small get away that afforded endless opportunity to disconnect and re-charge. Lucy and Mike's hospitality was above and beyond expectation and just made for an overall great experience for our first trip to Sapelo Island. We really weren't sure what to expect when we started this trip, but by the end, were very pleased. Thanks again!
A perfect launch site for Sapelo
Lucy and Mike have provided a well-appointed, comfortable (the bed and linens are amazing), and extremely clean apartment with everything we needed to cook, relax and explore the complex beauty of Sapelo Island. We found deserted beaches, beautiful sandy roads that led to historic sites, extraordinary marine research facilities, beautiful lanes to marsh channels, kind folks, great beach bikes and a vehicle with which to explore it all -- and most importantly, an introduction to the Geechee people who have carved the history of this island. Lucy is a wealth of information about Sapelo Island and she has stocked a library of books that provided cultural and ecological background for all we saw. This is the perfect launch site for a trip to Sapelo.
No Stress, No Worry, Island Time
My husband and I enjoyed our stay so much; Lucy and Mike are so accommodating, friendly and just great folks. The island, accessible only by ferry, is like going back in time. No restaurants, no traffic lights, one small store, no pollution, no stress. The retreat is kinda like an upstairs tiny house, with a nice size bedroom and everything you need! The kitchen had all the stuff I had at home! We were given a Jeep to drive around the island and a cart to load up the beach chairs, and cooler. The beaches we’re pristine and you could gather many nice shells and sand dollars; beautiful sunrise. I would recommend anyone who wants to get away from it all to go there, leave your “fancy vacation” ideals at home. Remember that everything you bring with you, you will carry down a dock and load onto the passenger ferry.
