Its off in the woods. Beds and linens were super comfy. Floors were updated. Kitchen was very old school but it didn't bother us. Owner is amazing. Really enjoyed our stay!
This was a nice cabin. There are five cabins on the owners' property. The owners had good communication but were otherwise unobtrusive. The main hot tub is shared with cabins 1-4, but cabin 5 has its own private one. Most importantly I took my rescue pitbull and had no issues with the owners or other guests. Some properties have a lot of dog rules so I was pleased to see this property was more lenient.
We enjoy the scenery around there but not the cottage.
The cottage is just a lakeside residence in a woods. Difficult to find but very good lakeview. The host needs more time in managing the property. It's better to give the door code two or three days in advance by email especially the host isn't available at the property. BTW, keeping the bed linen the cooking utensils clean is the first thins to improve.
Wow, did this cabin's location exceed our expectations! The group of cabins is located right on a clean gorgeous lake, complete with picturesque sunrises and scenery. The property sits back a long way from the road, so there is a serene quiet to the entire place. As birdwatchers, we were thrilled about the incredibly long, heavily wooded driveway that was filled with birds at the beginning of June. Warblers, thrushes, woodpeckers, this area has it all! There were even bald eagles who made their way over the lake several times while we were outside. The cabin itself is small, but easily fit us with our 3 dogs. At a large gorgeous property like this, some other tenants did allow their dogs off leash, so we had to check outside each time before we took ours out to make sure we didn't have any surprise meetings. Our dogs also enjoyed swimming in the lake. If you're staying for more then a few days, I suggest bringing extra towels - you'll need one for the bathroom floor and another inside the front door if you're spending a lot of time outdoors, to keep the floor from getting too dirty. Speaking of outdoors, bring your bug spray! Like at most wooded areas near water, the mosquitoes were plentiful. We didn't have any issues during our stay, but the host does live on the property as well and is easily accessible if you need anything. Great water pressure, comfortable bed, air conditioning, and a bar cart to help offset the minimal counter space in the kitchen. Overall this was one of our favorite rentals we've stayed at!
The view of the fall trees reflecting on the lake was perfect! Cabins are small but comfortable. Quite neighbors. Firepit by each cabin, we had the cabin right on the lake, but it could be seen from all cabins. Bit of a walk from parking to cabin to haul stuff. I would stay again.
We stayed a week, with the plan to bring our boat and fish primarily. Itâs a really nice lake for fishing and fishing off the dock was fun.
Pros of the property: cabin was very clean on arrival; check in was easy; the dock area was nice (although pretty wobbly on one end); fire pit was nice; charcoal grill with utensils was provided; there was a picnic table outside each cabin; owner responded quickly when we had an issue with the cabin; we were able to bring our dog; restaurants in the area were goodâespecially Shannonâs and Up North Lodge.
Cons and suggestions for owners: need a light by the dock area (my husband fell down the steps at night because he couldnât see them); need a rug by the entrance to wipe feet when coming back to the cabin and a broom/dustpan (floors got very dirty by the end of the week with no way to clean them); no chairs were provided by the fire pits so we had to buy some; would suggest adding a shelf in the shower for soap/shampoo as there was no place to put things except on the shower floor; need a bath mat so the floor in the bathroom doesnât get soaked when showering; loading/unloading the car was difficult as there was a long walk downhill to the cabinâwould suggest allowing people to drive their cars down to load/unload.
Overall, a nice stay and nothing that would prevent a recommendation from staying here.
The good: wonderful mattresses, pillows & linens in the bedrooms; nice couch; nice high table/chairs; lake access
The not so good: No area to prep food in the kitchen; Wifi is shared with the other cabin causing streaming to freeze or lag when everyone is using it at night
I booked and paid in full for three cabins in February of this year for 4 nights for family to attend my Fatherâs Memorial service. The owner confirmed payment in full for all 3 cabins in February. I did not hear from the owner again. I called VRBO the morning of our check in to advise. Three cabins were confirmed. VRBO contacted the owner. Four hours into our 8 hour drive the owner called and confirmed all three parties but only sent check in info for 2 cabins. Imagine how I felt when I called to ask for the 3rd and he advised he only had two cabins for our group of 10 people. He blamed it on me because I rented three cabins under my name even though he had accepted the money for three. He than blamed VRBO for changing their web site. He then said he had out roll away beds and we could fit in two cabins. We could not. We had elderly single people with us. We had to stay together so we ended up finding a hotel that has available rooms 20 minutes away which cost us an additional $2500! I am still waiting for my money to be 100% refunded.
The property was set back off the main roads so was very peaceful. The cabin was clean and has been recently updated with new floors and fixtures. The bed was comfortable and would definitely stay here again
This location and property owner are great! Right on the water and great for fishing! It was hard to keep my 2 year old of the dock with his fishing pole. The owner was extremely helpful and there upon check in to assist with all questions. Great fire pits! Bathrooms clean and renovated! Some bugs but that is to be expected in the upper peninsula. Overall amazing weekend! Second year in a row and many more to come! Thanks for a wonderful stay!
This property was dirty. Electric Wires was exposed on the heater. Electrical tape on the outlets .Kinda of run down . The property needs to be mowed and cared for. Will not go back . Wish I could get my money back i regret booking with verbo. Not again đ
We LOVED our cabin stay on Shag Lake. The cottage was clean and had plenty of space for us. There isn't much stocked in the cabins, but it does have pots and pans, dishes for cooking if needed. The ONLY thing we weren't 100% satisfied with is that we thought the hot tub was more of a community-based feature and instead it is directly on the owner's property. It WAS privately fenced in and available, it just wasn't quite what we were looking for in that respect. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful with suggestions on local attractions. We would love to return here for a longer stay next time.
We stayed 3 days. Dogs were allowed. It was very clean. The beds were comfortable. Great location right off of the lake for our snowmobiles. Easy to get to trails. Bring your own seasonings and aluminum foil if you need it and creamer for coffee.
Very cute resort with great potential. Lake is beautiful, great for bass fishing. Gwinn, MI has everything youâll need. Cabin had minimal supplies but all the basics. Bring extra towels and cooking utensils.
