The caretaker, Betty, was so great. She gave us great information and provided us with many extra comforts (waters and gatorades, frosted mugs...). The cabin had so much character, but we loved the outdoor living areas most of all. We loved grilling and having a campfire in the outdoor kitchen. We canât wait to go back.
This was my favorite VRBO experience so far. The pictures do not do this place justice! It was exactly what we needed in this 2020 summer. To be clear, if you're looking for a Gatlinburg, with tourist traps, attractions, and dining options galore nearby, this isn't it. It's a place to get away! A place to porch sit by.a creek, see stars, listen to nature, smoke some meat (smoker on property so bring your meat and supplies), tell stories and connect after a day of hiking. Think remote camping with luxuries of heat, air, wifi (though I recommend turning it off if you can get away with it), huge front porch with ceiling fans, etc. The Combs Mtn Pkwy was closed eastbound while we were there which made the drive to Gorge trail heads longer than expected but coming back via the Pkwy was much quicker so that shouldn't be a concern for future guests. For city folks who really want to get far away from the hustle, I recommend some Ky mtn relaxation at this rustic yet comfortable cabin. My family made some great memories.
Very disappointing stay; cabin & property need maintenance;
Upon arrival for bâday weekend celebration Sept 30-Oct 2, a large earth mover was parked in the driveway. I was informed they had graded the steep gravel driveway the day before but we were paying for a âcabin nestled in the woodsâ not a parking lot for large machinery. During the tour, we were told the to turn cold water on & off under the kitchen sink if we âhad to use itâ due to a leak. We soon noticed a leak at hot water connection too so that also needed to be shut off. Couldnât use DW due to water needing to be on. Only cold water working in downstairs bathroom; sink handles kept falling off when used. A leak in that bathroom had caused the door to swell & could not shut rendering the toilet/shower useless due to a lack of privacy. Someone came to look at kitchen leak but couldnât fix issue. She did turn the hot water on under the bathroom sink. Apparently she was there the day prior to our arrival fixing the leak in that bathroom & had forgotten to turn it back on. Low water pressure in upstairs bathroom made flushing the toilet difficult. Showering & bathing was very time-consuming with only a trickle of water coming from the faucet. Many light bulbs were burned out. Mouse traps & droppings throughout cabin. Deadbolt to cabin didnât lock. Gas grill falling apart(gas tank old/rusty) & looks as though it hasnât been used in years. Outdoor fireplace & fire pit were nice but outdoor kitchen was dirty & needs TLC; we did not cook on it due to the filth. Large porch with only 1 working porch light. Many pans, glasses & eating utensils in kitchen but only 4 place settings, 1 small mixing bowl & 1 small colander. The hiking was nice and we enjoyed being able to bring our dog but this was not a good stay at all. Property description states âcabin with all modern luxuriesââŠthis is FALSE! In our opinions, the amenities were minimal, at best. When owner asked about our stay, I shared only a few of these items (there are many more than I could share in this review) with no response from the owner. Two weeks since staying at this cabin & still no response. We feel this property has so much potential but the owner is neglecting maintenance. Unfortunately, we do not recommend staying here.
This was our second visit and it was as wonderful as the first and canât wait for our third visit. There is always new places in the area and on the property itself to explore. The owner and the property manager are both wonderful, down home, kind people. Would highly recommend.
First of all, this is a real cabin which is awesome and rare. Everything was in great working condition. There are several outbuilding areas, (including a fire pit with an adjacent building and covered area). There are several natural ponds with good fishing and vast, (I think 2000 acres), areas to hike and explore. We found evidence of black bears and practically all other types of wildlife known to live in this area. The owner is super responsive to communication, (even directing me to the best place to look for bear caves). This is the fourth or fifth stay that I have had at this cabin and the owner continues to make improvements. I recommend this to anyone who wants a relaxing, enjoyable, and authentic experience. FYI: I turned off traction control and drove in low to get up the hill in my Mazda 3 sedan without any problems at all.
My family and myself booked the cabin for a long weekend this summer. Upon entering the cabin we noticed a significant water leak in the bathroom. It had been leaking long enough mold was growing in the doorway where water puddled. When we got ready for bed the 1st night we noticed all of the beds had mouse droppings all over comforters and pillow cases. When attempting to shower there was also mouse droppings all over the towels. The kitchen had no running hot water. There was mouse dropings on the furniture and end tables. My kids and family we're so uncomfortable. We contacted the property manager and we decided to find other accommodations for the rest of our stay. The property manager agreed to refund a portion of our money. I have made contact at least 3 times, him assuring me my refund was on it's way. It has been nearly 45 days and the refund has still not arrived. So disappointing.
This was our second time staying at this cabin. We absolutely love staying at it and plan to keep visiting it every year. I'm not sure however if somthing happened but I tried reaching out to owner to let them know we had arrived amd never received a reply. Luckily we were able to find keys to get into cabin or else I dont know what we would have done since we drive 5hrs one way to get to property. As well as the bathroom on the second floor for some reason the water pressure was extremely low. We have every intention of going back just assuming it was a fluke or somthing happened as to why we didnt hear back from owner and that we were the unluckily once with the bathroom issue
This Property is awesome!!! Property owner is awesome
This is our second trip to this hidden gem in the mountains. The pics do not do this place any justice. It is a rustic cabin in the woods and on the side of a mountain. Plenty of space to roam around and explore. Close to great golf courses (gibson bay ) .
It was a wonderful cabin and the folks were so easy to reach and accommodating. The cabin is serene and historic. Even tho itâs a little ways from RRG, the drive was worth it for the beauty of the property.
My family and I stayed for the New Years weekend. The cabin was lovely and far more room than the photos show. Very homey and peaceful. Highly recommend this cabin. And Iâll mention again, the photos do not do the cabin Justice.
My family and I love coming to this cabin. Our 3rd time here and will be back again! Owners are great. Great place for family to relax and also hike. We live that we don't have to leave.
Great cabin for a Thanksgiving trip. Bed in the master was super comfortable. Loved being able to bring our dog. Mary that checked us in was lovely. Cabin was very comfortable. There are some stuffed animals in the hallway if that bothers you. Would definitely stay again. Thank you for offering this property!
The cabin was a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday weekend up in the woods on a very big property with wonderful views of the changing leaves in the fall. We enjoyed making campfires And cooking outside. Also was really neat to sit on the outside porch and enjoy the changing leaves and beautiful fall weather. We will definitely visit again.
If you are looking for something secluded but still within driving distance to town this is it. There were no close neighbors and the nearest grocery store is about 15 minutes away. The cabin itself is stunning. It looks primitive but still has all the modern necessities we are used to. There is so much land you donât have to leave and could spend a week hiking there. Ernest the property owner is very personable and easy to reach. Betty the caretaker is sweet as can be and super helpful. She had stocked the cabin with water for us before we even got there. We would definitely go back.
I asked for more pictures of the property and was told to check Zillow. The pictures on Zillow were beautiful so when we got to the property, we were totally disappointed. We found interior dimly lit, stairs inside were an issue, gas grill falling apart, loose boards on the porch. We did not feel comfortable staying there and found other accommodations.
Great place to stay if you enjoy the country. We hiked the property, got a tour of the property from Earnest, and enjoyed meeting Betty who showed us around the cabin.
Nice property. A few items in the house broken or in need of attention (kitchen cold water handle, TV in living room only played dvds no live TV, outdoor kitchen area needs TLC). Those were minor the rest of the property was good. Peaceful place.
We loved everything about our stay. It was exactly what we were looking for. Isolated and quite. The cabin was cozy and felt like home, we enjoyed exploring the property and it wasnât to far from our destinations!
As other reviewers said, the picture didnât do this cabin justice. The property is secluded, and very beautiful. We loved the outdoor grilling area! You definitely need 4 wheel drive for some of the roads. Overall we would definitely come back.
