Ball Cottage, Winsford - Parc national d'Exmoor - Jardins Riverside

Ball Cottage a tout le caractère que vous pouvez attendre d'un cottage du 17ème siècle et le confort dont vous avez besoin aujourd'hui. Le salon a un feu ouvert et un four à pain désaffecté; à l'étage il y a une très vieille fenêtre plombée; et les sols sont principalement en bois ou en carrelage. Le chalet a des roses qui grimpent au mur et est situé dans un grand jardin. À l'arrière, vous trouverez un bel endroit où vous pourrez vous asseoir au bord de la rivière Exe, près d'un vieux pont. Lorsque la rivière est basse, les enfants s'amusent bien à pagayer et à explorer. Le chalet peut accueillir jusqu'à 5 personnes (maximum 4 adultes) dans trois chambres.

Delightful cottage which is very cosy with a lovely log fire and all amenities needed in the well stocked kitchen. The cottage is in a beautiful location - lovely to walk straight out into the riverside garden and along to the little packhorse bridge at the back. The craft fair in the village hall was an added treat - we've never met such a friendly bunch of stall holders and talented crafts people.

We sat by the river in the garden and watched kingfishers flashing by, darting under the picturesque bridges. There are walks from the cottage to Tarr Steps and along the Ex, our son enjoyed the challenging cycling, we enjoyed pootling in Dulverton, and going to Lynmouth via the Barle Valley and Watersmeet. Swimming at Cow Castle was magical. A lovely cottage in a beautiful area, and so quaint and quiet.

We were surprised by the presence of a lovely secluded rear garden with the River Exe flowing through it, a great place to enjoy a BBQ and evening glass of wine. The cottage is located adjacent a quiet country road, so vehicle noise was not an issue. The firmness of the double bed mattress we used, was similar to ours at home so we enjoyed a good nights rest following a number of walks. Al in all a very enjoyable break!

Winsford is one of the prettiest villages in the Exmoor National Park, nestled in the heart of the moor where the River Exe meets the Winn Brook. Eight ancient bridges and a cobbled ford cross the streams here.



The village is centred around The Royal Oak Inn, a thatched 12th-century country pub featured in the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide, serving seasonal menus with locally sourced ingredients. The Royal Oak also houses a small village shop and post office selling newspapers, bread, milk, and basic supplies.



Wheddon Cross, approximately 4 miles away, has a mini-supermarket (open 7am to 8pm), post office, ATM, and petrol station. Dulverton, around 7 miles south, is a handsome small town known as the southern gateway to Exmoor, with a mini-supermarket, butcher, post office, National Park Visitor Centre, and a good selection of independent shops and restaurants.



Minehead is the main town in West Somerset, approximately 12 miles away. Here you will find larger supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, and Lidl), most major high street banks with cash machines, and a range of other shops. The nearest sandy beach is also at Minehead.
