We enjoyed the quaintness of the house and the front porch. It was convenient enough to sites. The train at night running several times and stopping behind house was a cause for not full night's rest. We also had to clean cobwebs from around the twin beds downstairs and stink bugs off of the bedspreads. We never received any check in or check out instructions but hosts were easy to contact to gain access to house. Overall a nice stay.
We had a small family get together of 8 adults at the cottage. The house is old but very quaint and lots of character. Everything works and very clean. Its a short trip to Lewisburg for restaurants and shopping. The river is across the road in front of the house. Lots if geese and large birds we weren't sure what they were. The front porch is wonderful. The train is very close and loud but we really didn't mind it that much. Very peaceful and quiet. We had great weather of 71 degrees so we really enjoyed the porch. Kids went to fireworks in Alderson which were awesome!
Nice little cottage with a lot of character. Property manager great to work with. We had car issues and needed to locate a garage upon our arrival. Property manager made great referral to garage within walking distance. Readily answered other questions that came up during our three night stay; including great restraunt recommendations. Warning though....if you donât love trains, may not be the place for you. Train tracks within 10â of back door and run every 2-3 hours. For the most part, they did not bother us at all; and we spent all three days and nights at the cottage; enjoying crafting and each otherâs company. Thumbs up to Monroe House! We love the Lewisburg area and will be back.
Beautiful Spot with the river right out the front door. Home is old and creaky, but a lot of character and fun. Other reviewers were bothered by the 3-4 trains a day/night that pass close by, but it didnât bother us much. Bobby, the owner was very responsive and fixed a problem with the oven the day after we arrived.
The property was as advertised, clean and in good working order. We had a great family get-together. I think it would be even better in warm weather when you can do more on the river. Train proved a big draw for our 2-1/2 y/o grandson.
The property was great - sunny porches and sheltered porches, toasty during cold nights, pleasant setting near the river. Railroad tracks in back, but the passing trains really just added to the bucolic pleasure of the place. Plenty big, but cozy. I would suggest putting a nightstand next to beds and a reading light.

This is a charming and very comfortable property. Great access to the Greenbriar River for swimming, fishing or floating and biking the Greenbriar Trial and rafting the New River Gorge.
Great house along the Greenbriar River! We spent all of our time at âhomeâ on the large covered deck, it was awesome! The house was clean and the owners were very responsive to our questions. Lewisburg is a great little town close by.
Will definitely be back!
