It rained the whole weekend but the open layout of the lovely home gave us the opportunity for lots of interaction with the family. There were lots of games to play and we put a large puzzle together. During the time the rain stopped, we did visit the dock and saw a sting ray, a large crab, jellyfish, shrimp and shark. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and pans for cooking meals. We all enjoyed a wonderful relaxing weekend.
We had an awesome time staying at this residence, we caught crab, some sea trout? All the amenities that you would want/need would definitely recommend this for your next vacation.
As a California family visiting for a wedding in the local area we absolutely love this place. 3 bedroom 2 bathrooms. Spacious and so cute. The owners are so nice and accommodating. Check in process was easy. I was traveling separately from my family. They were allowed to check in without me of course I had permission from the owner. Which was a good thing. My flight into SC was delayed 4.5 hrs so I did not get in till midnight the first day. The house was very clean and had all the accommodations needed for our family of 6 stay. There are games for families to play while indoor. There is a pool somewhere on the property for residents to use. However, we didnât not visit the area. We just did not have the time. The property is quiet and clean and the dock was amazing. My family loved being outside on the dock. So peaceful, stunning view of the water, it is just beautiful. Even my family in the local area came to see the dock! They loved the property as well. The owners have house rules listed inside which was helpful as well as local areas to visit, groceries stores, restaurants etc. I would highly recommend this place. My family has talked about going back and renting again. Thank you Butlers for your hospitality and kindness.
What a perfect getaway if you want to experience Lowcountry living! The home was charming and perfectly appointed and the owners were kind and quick to respond to questions. The new dock gave us access to fresh caught crabs and fish for dinner and wonderful breezy views. Totally enjoyed my stay!
We LOVED the property and what it had to offer. We were about 25 minutes into Charleston, easily a day/afternoon trip.
At the house, our kids (22, 20, 11 and 9) enjoyed the paddleboard and kayak options. We spent lots of time at the dock catching crabs, and lounging in the river. We did go to the Community Pool one afternoon and enjoyed our time there, it was clean and new, we would definitely recommend. Overall, a great relaxing few days before our beach vacation.
This home has all the amenities you need; including a deck, screened porch, and large yard. There have been many updates recently, and the property is very clean inside and out. The dock on Toogoodoo River is just as impressive as the fantastic water sunsets. Perfect for outdoor activities. We will be coming back this summer!
This was our second stay. There were some issues noted this time which were not issues before. We brought them to the owners' attention and I hope they are rectified.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cozy house on the Toogoodoo River. The scenery was beautiful and serene. We took our kayaks and couldn't believe that we were the only ones kayaking down the river on a beautiful Fall morning. The house had all the comforts of home, and the location was perfect. We enjoyed watching the sunset while sitting on the dock behind the house. Sydney was very helpful and answered all my questions thoroughly and promptly. Would love to stay there again!
Weâve always picked a crowded place near the big city to stay when traveling. Yet, when I came across the Meggett property on VRBO, I wondered what it would be like to pick a country paradise for different reasons. These days I think more about being safe, secure, cleanliness and quiet, when we travel. Nestled next to the picturesque Tookoodoo River, thatâs what we found at the Meggett Property. The property manager answered our every question in timely fashion and we had a great 4 night get away for our celebration of 48 years being married and my wifeâs 65th birthday. This vacation was enhanced by the discovery of this great place to stay. Thank you Sydney. đ
I have been viewing this property for nearly 2 years and finally decided to book it once our family was vaccinated. To say I was excited to stay there is an understatement of biblical proportions! From the moment we walked through the door, every one of my expectations were exceeded. The dock was amazing. The location was exceptional. Communication with the owner was top-notch. There was very little boat traffic on the river. All the neighbors were quiet and respectful. Wildlife watching from our kayaks on a daily basis was on par with a Discovery Channel special. Even the weather cooperated throughout our stay. I cannot wait to stay here again!
We really enjoyed this property. Itâs quiet and a great place to really disconnect. We traveled as (5) adults and (2) kids. The dock is a slice of paradise. We brought our own canoe and we had no issues getting it into the water with the rising of the lower dock during tides. The porpoises come out every evening and typically right under or around the dock. We caught and ate a ton of crab! Was happy they had a trap but we brought two of our own. We caught and released a bull shark which the kids enjoyed watching. The place is conveniently located to all the hot spots; Charleston, Edisto Beach, Folly Beach, Mt Pleasent. We really enjoyed the local restaurant Pier 162! The hardest part was the bed situation since we did utilize every bed in the house the bunks arenât the most comfortable for adults but the kids enjoyed. Host was wonderful and easy to communicate with or get ahold of with questions. Would definitely come back to enjoy again.
The house met all of our expectations. When we werenât out on the boat, we were enjoying the wonderful dock. The scenery was beautiful, and overall very peaceful.
House was just as described. The house looks small from outside but is much bigger on the inside. The house is beautifully decorated. Fishing dock is the one of the best we had ever seen, congrats to the desiner! We did catch alot of sharks, an alligator gar, red drum and black drum. I dont know who would swim in that water after all the sharks we caught. We did have a problem with the internet, we contacted the owner and she responded quickly. After multiple conversations the problem was never resolved, which lead to long nights and early mornings with two small children. The description of the house also said that there is no garbage pick up, that you could drop it off at a dumpster. We did find the local dump. Unfortunately because we are from out of town you cant dump your trash. Luckily the man at the dump felt sorry for us and allowed us to dump our trash. Overall we had a great time and can't wait to come back.
Beautiful property, fufilled a lot of our needs for a work trip, the dock access was great! The primary/hallway bathroom door has a large gap and no lock, which made it inappropriate for a work trip and we had to block off the gaps to protect peoples' privacy. We did not see that in the photos when we were selecting this property. The codes regularly did not work for both doors. And the bunk beds are "child only" an adult cannot fit into the middle bunk.
We were looking for a place to take our 2 special needs boys (both in wheelchairs) to enjoy fishing and other outdoor activities while also not being in the publics eye. This was certainly it!
We spent alot of our long weekend on the dock fishing, crabbing and shrimping. While we did not catch alot, my spouse and kids had a blast. We caught 1 whiting, 1 stingray and about 20 or so crabs of which about 12-15 were big enough to keep and bring home.
We will certainly return again.
When i mentioned that we were bringing 2 boys in wheelchairs and no ramp present, we were prepared to bring a ramp with us to get into the house but days before we arrived, they had a small ramp built at the entrance and it was wonderful to have!
We also cooked steaks on the brand new grill while there and i donât know what it is, but home cooked food always tastes better when you are not at home. And YES it did this time as well.
I would recommend this home to anyone wanting a peaceful and quiet weekend in the lowcountry and away from the hustle and bustle of alot of Charleston.
I am from Charleston and left back in 1997 but do still enjoy returning but try to keep my distance and like to be more of the tourist when i am able to return!
The house was cozy and comfortable. The fishing was shark catching, stingrays, and eels. I would not swim in that water. The dock was relaxing to watch all God's beauty with nature's picturesque views.
We had a lovely time at the beautiful, well appointed home! We loved all the homey and local art and finishes in the home. Kitchen had everything you could want and beds were comfortable. We appreciated all the info Sydney communicated to us as well as the info in the home. Thanks for a lovely stay âșïž
This is our second time at this property and will not be the last! The house is beautiful and comfortable, even nicer than the pictures. The kitchen had everything we need to prepare our meals. The dock is well-maintained and convenient for kayaking on the peaceful river. Sydney is a wonderful hostess, and she responded quickly to all my questions prior to our stay. Highly recommend this house and location, which is only a 45-minute drive to beautiful downtown Charleston.
Beautiful and comfortable home; enjoyed morning visit from neighbor's chickens; quiet neighborhood; view from dock is absolutely the best, but did find the boardwalk to be a little risky due to no rails and the same for the dock; overall a great house with excellent kitchen supplies and linens available.
We purchased this home to use for our family and to offer to guests. It has been a labor of love for two years as we did much of the work ourselves and patiently waited to have our dock finished.
