Very fine and well cared for home, splendidly located and outfitted. The roads are quite narrow and curving, as one would expect in a mountain setting. Good nearby restaurants although parking can be challenging. We brought our small border terrier and she too had a fine time. Top recommendation.
We rented this property for a family stay (6 adults, 1 infant) to attend a wedding at The Farm at Old Edwards and other wedding-related gatherings in Highlands. The property was clean, well-maintained & well-stocked with dishes & other essentials for our 4 night stay, and is located close (under a mile & a half) to Highlands. Check-in was easy & problem-free. Caroline (the host) was very responsive to questions & provided helpful information about the area. The landscaper was not able to get there before our stay due to ongoing weather issues, so there was some overgrowth that needed tending, but rain prevented us from using the fire pit anyway. Our only minor critiques would be to have firmer beds, (thatâs just our personal preference,) and maybe an 11:00 a.m. checkout rather than 10:00, which can likely be accommodated now upon request, if bookings allow. All-in-all a great stay.
The house was a perfect size for 5 adults attending a wedding at Old Edwards. It was clean and had everything we needed for our weekend trip. It's in a great location, close to downtown and the venue space. Our host checked in with us on the first day to make sure we were doing good and had everything we needed. We'll definitely save this home for future stays!
We had a wonderful time in Highlands and the property was perfect for us. There were four and each of us had a bedroom. The proximity to town is excellent, the neighborhood is quiet and lovely, and the property is in excellent condition, nicely decorated. Our host, Caroline, was very responsive to a couple of questions. We hope to be back and I highly recommend this property!
We had a great time in Highlands in this nice/quaint home just 5 minutes from Main St. This house is very comfy and cozy with 2 indoor fireplaces and a fire pit outside. 2 bedrooms on the main upper floor and 2 bedrooms on the lower floor. Nice updated decor and nice outdoor porch furniture. Kitchen is updated and has everything you need, although a little small for a large group but perfect for 4-6 people.
Caroline, the host is great to work with and very communicative. She checked in on day one to make sure everything was ok. We would highly recommend this home when visiting beautiful Highlands. Also highly recommend The Stubborn Bull and Four65 Woodfire Bistro + Bar for great food and atmosphere.
Great house & location for our four-girlfriend trip. Superb location 5 minute drive to Main St. in wonderfully walkable Mirror Lake neighborhood. House has everything we needed, very clean and well maintained, very responsive owner. Several in our group had rented this house before and will sgain.
The house is well taken care of, but the driveway is really a challenge. We were told it would hold two or three cars, but the space is very small and the cars have to be packed in very tightly The driveway is on a steep hill so backing out is challenging.
It says on the info the house sleeps eight, but I can not see how that would work at all. There were 6 of us and we had to sit on stools around the kitchen island in order to eat together. There is a larger table outside on the large patio but the patio is not covered or screened in so if the weather isnât good, you canât use it.When everyone is sitting around the island in the kitchen, you can not move around the kitchen at all and it definitely wouldnât seat 8 people. The patio downstairs is reached by going down a flight of steep stairs. We ate outside one night but carrying all the food from the kitchen down the stairs etc was a chore.
The house lacks a large area for a group of people to gather. The couch upstairs seats six if you squeeze in and the couch downstairs in the den is even smaller. You can pull in some extra chairs but they are not comfortable.
I booked the house for 10 days. We we ran out of dishwasher pods, coffee, paper towels, bath soap and the house had no pantry with supplies. If you book this house, you will need to bring a lot of your own supplies. The host said she only provides a starter pack of essentials.
The beds were comfortable but seemed small.
An excellent property with plenty of room and an awesome layout. We enjoyed sitting around the kitchen island having dinner. Having morning coffee on the lower deck as the sun came up was very relaxing.
I would recommend this property to anyone that wants a great place to stay that is also close to restaurants and shopping in Highlands.
This was the second year my 3 friends and I have rented this lovely home and we had a wonderful time. We mostly shopped and had delicious meals out. We now range in age from 80-85, so we feel so grateful to have been able, once again, to have this get away respite and fun time together because we donât know what another year will present to ourselves. Caroline was a very gracious host and we knew that we could contact her should we have any questions.
Iâm so grateful to have found a lovely property that doesnât use scented laundry detergent, plug-ins, etc. I enjoyed the weekend without worrying about having a migraine triggered by fragrance. The home and location are fabulous! Thank you
Great weekend renting this house at Mirror Lake. The house met all of our families needs. Great location, close proximity to town and well equipped for a weekend getaway.
Everything was wonderful. The owner is very responsive and helpful. The house had Everything we needed for 5 nights. Fully stocked kitchen. Comfortable and clean.
We had a very enjoyable stay at this property in October. The listing was exactly as described and Caroline was an excellent and responsive host. We plan to return next year!
Very well kept. Close to to town. Less than a mile from On The Verandah restaurant , which had great food , and, of course, not far to downtown Highlands the street light at the edge of the driveway and road was very handy late at night, because it gets dark in those mountains.
This is one of the nicer VRBO properties Iâve stayed in. The house is high-end with plenty of space for everybody. Multiple balconies are really nice.
I really appreciated some of the small details that make staying in rented houses much easier- some kitchen consumables available like coffee filters and olive oil, bathroom items like small soaps/shampoo etc.
I struggled getting into the unit bc I didnât read the directions fully, but host was available immediately to tell me what I should have read before.
There are checkout instructions regarding laundry and trash placement that we followed as best as possible for our 3am departure (unable to locate bear bin in dark). There is also mandatory insurance in addition to a damage deposit which almost stopped me from booking- both seems excessive.
Overall this unit is exactly as advertised and I wouldnât look elsewhere if I was visiting Highlands again.
Great location to town. Very clean, updated house. Master being downstairs was a bit of a drawback but main level bedroom was fine for our stay. Caroline was great to work with:). Thanks for being so accommodating!
My family all loved this house. It was very close to town, had beautiful views, and was well-equipped. The bedroom layout was great with 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs so we didn't feel on top of each other. It was a pleasure to communicate with Caroline. I would definitely stay there again!!
We had the best time here. The cottage is spacious, immaculate and well-equipped with essentials. It's close proximity to town (Highlands) was the icing on the cake!
Caroline is the most gracious and engaged host. We hope to return soon!
We had a great stay at this lovely property in the Highlands. The owner was extremely responsive to all our questions and made many suggestions of activities and helped us navigate the blackout during our stay.
I grew up in Charleston SC, the #1 City in America (according to Travel & Leisure). I have lived here most of my life except for two years in high school at St. Mary's in Raleigh and college at the University of Georgia (Go DAWGS). After a career as an Interior Designer I switched professions and am now a Realtor. It was a natural transition and is really fun! In my several years of hosting I have enjoyed corresponding with many wonderful guests and hearing about the fun things that they did during their stays.
The first time I visited Highlands I knew that I wanted to have a place here someday. I had been looking for the perfect spot for several years. I knew that I wanted to be close to town but in a quiet setting with a mountain view. I loved that the house was newly renovated yet cozy. It has spaces for everyone to be together or have some relaxing alone time.
Some of my favorite features of this house are the fabulous master bath, cozy master bedroom with mountain views, kitchen with unique craftsman touches and of course the outdoor spaces to take advantage of the lovely weather in the summertime or warm up by the fire pit when the air turns chilly.
