Easy check in at this unique 1950s prefab bungalow. Enjoyed learning about history of this home from the book, pictures and other documents about Lustron on site. Plenty of nostalgia with all the modern comforts. Very clean and well stocked home. This was our first visit and will definitely come back.
This vintage home has an interesting history and is kept up so nicely with period furnishings. Modern conveniences though-good water pressure, fully functioning kitchen, good temperature control. I like stays with history behind them and this house has that It is a very small town so you will drive 15 minutes to find a grocery. Close to Matthesson and starved rock state parks which are both beautiful Karen responds quickly when messaged I enjoyed every minute
This was a great setting for our girlsâ weekend. The house was so well-equipped and close to downtown Ottawa and the state parks. This was actually our second time here, and I donât expect itâll be the last!
This home was stocked with all the supplies you could need for a weekend get away. It was decorated so uniquely and it was super clean. We will definitely be back.
Amazing throwback in time to the 50's at this property. We were there only a couple of nights but the accommodations were great! We would stay there again!
Super nice property, with everything you need. Grand Ridge is a wonderful quiet town, close enough to everything, but far enough to give you some time to enjoy yourself. This vintage home was way ahead of its time, when it was built
Just as described, clean and comfortable home in a quiet area. Close to Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Park for outdoor activities. We spent our evenings at restaurants/bars in Ottawa. Perfect place for us, we will return often.
The lustron house is absolutely amazing! Very clean inside and out.We loved how Karen had the history of the house (newspaper article) included so we could learn more about it! Definitely would book again!
What a great stay! This home was perfect for us. Just minutes away from Starved Rock, Buffalo Rock, Matthiessen, and Illini State Parks! And when we came back from hiking, they have a water cooler which was a nice perk! This home is a Lustre home, which I had never heard about. They have news articles, prints, and books about the home which are very interesting. If you enjoy art like I do, you'll appreciate the prints of Dali, Miro and Hopper throughout the home. There were plenty of supplies here, too! No running out of toilet paper, for example. Forget your toothbrush and toothpaste, they have you covered. Lots of supplies here for our use! The best compliment I can give is this: I would definitely stay here again and again! What a nice quiet neighborhood and adorable house!
Cool retro house and the decor was a clever nod to the period the home was built. Very clean and well-appointed. Close to Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks.
Cute and cozy!! We felt so at home in this little house that is in a nice and quiet neighborhood. It was close to everything we needed. Hope to get back soon! đ
It was so much fun to stay at Karen's Luston house! We'd never seen the inside of one before. Super cool and beautiful, with well-appointed period details. Karen was incredibly fast to respond (and resolve) when we had issues with the tv. Our one minor complaint was that the tub/shower ran out of hot water very quickly.
We were very happy with the house! Some minor concerns - however some of the dishes (frying pans) were dirty with leftover food. There was very little toilet paper.
My husband and I recently stayed at this fabulous house for a quick getaway from Chicago. My mouth literally dropped when we walked in the door! Perfectly furnished and decorated. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed. My husband and I often stay at hotels in the area while we visit the neighboring towns. I now want to stay at this lovely home for all our future visits! If you are a fan of midcentury modern homes, this is definetly a house you want to rent!
This a cute, comfortable home. You want for nothing staying here, all you need is your suitcases. You will be amazed by the size of the rooms. I wish Lustron homes, were still being built. Karen is a wonderful host, and answered all my questions immediately. This is such a hidden gem, you would like to keep it a secret, so others donât know about it, so you can rent it when you need it. Grand Ridge is a great family community, and everyone is friendly. We will definitely stay here again when we return. It is your home away from home.
This was a fun stay given the history of the house. It was tastefully decorated in period pieces making it a very comfortable stay. Not overly decorated like some VRBOs.
While a few of the original fixtures are worn from many years of use, that just adds to the authenticity of this nicely preserved, historic place. This VRBO also had the most food supplied to guests that we've ever seen. Very nice. Thank you for an enjoyable place to use as our home base as we explored the nearby parks and towns! :)
As an architect I loved the opportunity to live in a Lustron house for a few days. Its adorable and all the mid century modern decor is very well done. Because of the pandemic we wanted to be able to cook our own meals and this was one of the best equipped kitchens I have had in a rental including condiments like butter! I had actually brought some as I wasnât expecting that. We enjoyed both Starved Rock that we had visited in the past and discovered Matthiessen which is amazing. Both parks are about 15 - 20 minutes away. Hope to be back again and I canât imagine staying at the Lodge if Blue Steel is available!
My husband and I really enjoyed this home. It has a unique charm with its period furniture and decor. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. It has everything we needed for an extended stay including a full sized washer and dryer. We were worried that a metal home would be cold, it was not. It was very warm and cosy.
It is located across the street from the grade school and I enjoyed hearing the kids when they were out for recess. I went for many walks around the village and enjoyed seeing some of the old victorian homes.
Thank you Karen for opening your home to us. We especially loved learning about the history of a Lustron home. We would definitely stay in this home again.
This is a beautiful and unique vintage house inside and out. Architecture and 50's enthusiasts will really get a vibe from this gem of a place. It has lots of history that the host has lovingly pictured around the space.
You will have all you need to cook, work and rest. The house has updates to the bathroom and HVAC. This home away from home has a low key location in the little quite historic town of Grand Ridge and corn fields. There is a lovely long back lawn with a romantic fire pit that backs right onto a cornfield.
This home is a very short drive to all the hiking in the Starved rock and neighboring parks. There are grocery stores and restaurants near by in the historic town of Ottawa. We would love to stay here again.
Nice quiet little town with two bigger cities both north and south that are 10-15 minutes away. The history they have for you to read about this little house was very interesting and enjoyable to learn. Karen, the owner, was quick to answer and questions even over the Christmas weekend. The cleanliness of the house was very good. Highly recommend this rental.
