We found the house was a comfortable base for our stay visiting Paris for the Olympic Games. It is conveniently located only about 15 minutes drive from Tournan-en Brie which is on two RER lines which take you into the centre of Paris in 30-45 minutes. The house is well equipped and stayed cool during some very hot weather. The welcome was friendly and efficient giving us all the information we needed. The only negatives were the dampness of the atmosphere in the house, this is probably related to the age of the building and the smell of the drains which seemed to remain upstairs in the house throughout our stay. One other small complaint, we only had a small towel each - some larger towels would have made the stay more pleasurable. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and found the local shops and facilities in Tournan very convenient - thank you.
A family of four, we used this comfortable and well-equipped gite as a base to explore Paris and other places to the east. There are regular trains from nearby Tournan, with ample parking at the station, which go direct to the Gare de l'Est in 30 minutes. The gite is only 25 minutes by car from the chateau at Vaux-le-Viconte, and Fontainebleau is not much further away. Other places of interest are the medieval town of Provins and, to the north, Meaux with a very large and new First World War museum (Meaux on the Marne being as close as the Germans got to Paris in 1914). The gite is very quiet, and a garden has just been planted which should further enhance it in time. Patricia has even catered for the British need for a kettle, tea pot and toaster, which in our experience are far from ubiquitous on the continent. Tournan and nearby Fontenay-Tresigny each have a good sized supermarket, and a number of restaurants. The nearby village of La Houssaye has a boulangerie/patisserie for early morning bread and croissants, and also a home made "chocolate farm". It also has a large (but privately owned) chateau which was that of Napoleon's Marshall Augereau, who died there in 1816.
We stayed 8 days in the flat with a family of 5. Using the Navigo weekly pass we traveled from the station Marles-En-Brie to Paris East in 35 minutes and enjoyed Paris. Back in the flat we enjoyed the green environment, the garden and relaxed ⊠Patricia is a very nice host, everything was organised. I really comment it - ideal for exploring Paris!
