Through my childhood, summers were spent enjoying the outdoor activities that Newcastle had to offer. Walking in Donard park, climbing the slopes of Slieve Donard and swimming in the Rock Pool- now a listed building and filled with unheated sea water! It is open for swimming lessons and leisure during July and August. I, and many others believe that there are health benefits endowed by this activity. There are also seaweed baths nearby.
Overlooking the sea, mountain walks, and close to leisure amenities. A perfect recipe for chilling out! A five minute walk takes you to the beach. walk into town via South Promenade and the beautiful landscaped promenade that is a feature of the town. Walk a little firther and you come to Historic Sleive Donard Hotel and Royal County Down golf course.
Coastguard Cottage is located close to the harbour, where the granite from the quarry on Donard was brought down via rail, loaded onto boats, and used to build docks in Belfast and Liverpool. It offers the opportunity to holiday in a historic building in "Old Newcastle."
