Nice Family get away

This property is very accommodating for a large family, nicely furnished, well stocked kitchen, would definitely stay again.

A little piece of heaven

We had a wonderful stay....some fishing, floating and relaxing. The home is comfortable and the location feels secluded but nice and close to Asheville. We will definitely be back!

Charming as it says!

Ginee was a gracious host, with little generous touches like flowers and candy for guests. The house was great for a nice getaway.

Great for large families

Our family had a blast in this well kept home. Ginee had everything we needed right there for us and was quick to respond to questions. The separate areas were great for the large family we had on our Thanksgiving trip. The kitchen was well stocked and perfect for cooking up or Thanksgiving meal! We will be back soon!

Overall amazing

The setting and accommodations were absolutely what we were looking for. With plenty of paper products for the whole house. When the pilot light went out on a Sunday morning, Ginee was quick to come correct it for us. Thank you so much for everything! We can’t wait to come back!

Family fun time

Had a blast! Group of 11, ranging in age from 7 to 55. Everyone had a great time. Home was very clean, very well stocked and room to move. Everyone loved the pond, fishing and swimming the moment we arrived. The porch was the best spot for morning coffee. Great home.

Cabin on the pond

Nice quiet place to be with the family. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Thoughtful touches added thru out the cabin, flowers in each room and bowl of candy on kitchen table. A wind storm hit the day we were to check in so there were trees down and knocked out the power for 24 hours. We were able to communicate with Ginee who kept in touch with the electric company. Unfortunately we never did have Wi-Fi the time we were there.

Nice place but….

Overall we enjoyed the property. There were items in the home that were broken upon our arrival however. Shelves in the fridge kept falling off. But biggest blow to the trip was the hot tub being out of order. There was no indication during the reservation process that indicated that the hut tub was not in operation. It is listed under the amenities and was featured in the listing pictures but was not functional. We only found a note in the owner book that stated it was not open because of Covid. Not disclosing the status of the hot tub was very misleading. We chose that property partly because of the hot tub. There were some fish in the pond (only bluegill as far as we could tell). We fished a lot, with lots of different baits/lures. In the end bread balls right at the dock attracted some bluegill. Property was close enough to town for trips to dinner.

Please review the amenities the hot tub is not listed as it was taken down during covid. Sorry you miss read the amenities and the refrigerator shelves are on back order from Samsung. Sorry for the inconvenience! Ginee

Would be a fine value for a large group seeking a quiet place reasonably near to Asheville. Could benefit from a deep cleaning. Internet not the strongest, and that should be considered if needing it for work.

Nice but a bit off the mark

Stayed at the property last week (mid-October). The location, layout, and size of the property are great. The pond right off the front porch makes for a great relaxing setting. The property feels very secluded but is only 10-12 minutes from stores and restaurants and just an extra 10 minutes from downtown Asheville. However, as mentioned in other reviews the property does not get the cleaning/upkeep that it needs. Windows had obviously not been cleaned in months. We spent the first morning cleaning cobwebs from windows throughout the house as well as cleaning the glass in order to enjoy the wonderful view out of the front porch. Nearly every room had noticeable cobwebs in corners or from the ceiling. While disappointing, that in itself is not a major deal-breaker. What was very disappointing was finding out that the hot tub was not working. When I contacted the owner they informed me that they had known about it some 2 weeks prior to our rental (which is when we made our reservation) but did not inform us and don't seem to have made any mention of this on the listing. For anyone looking to book this property be warned, according to the owner replacement parts and repairs aren't expected until the end of November. Additionally, as also pointed out by other reviews, the high-speed internet on the property is questionable. It is DSL service and was very unreliable throughout our stay. While you "might" be able to browse the internet and even possibly stream video (Netflix/Hulu/etc.) it won't support multiple users and I wouldn't even try connecting to a Zoom/Video meeting. I had 2 kids attending online classes during our stay and we had better luck using a cellphone as a mobile hotspot (with only 2 bars or service) than using the property's DSL connection. Hopefully, more attention is paid to the work done by the cleaning service and renters are better informed of the state of amenities. If so this is a very nice rental property.

Loved it. The perfect getaway

Kids of all ages. Something for everyone. Great pond for fishing and swimming. Cabin had everything we would need. Close to Asheville, hit a brewery and distillery. Didn’t want to leave. This place is a hidden jem! Ohio, NJ and NC 2-62. Can’t wait to come back.

Blissful Getaway

My group and I, a total of 9, and our four legged friend had an amazing experience at the Hummingbird Pond! The cabin was much more than expected, the pictures really don’t do it enough justice. It was equipped for all of our needs and in the perfect location for the state of the world right now. I couldn’t have thought of a better place to spend my birthday relaxing on the floats in the pond, having night caps in the hot tub, and gathering around the fire pit for s’mores. We simply never wanted to leave and will definitely keep the Hummingbird Pond in mind for future vacations!!

Weekend in Asheville

The house is rustic, lovely, and in a great location. However, it was not what I would consider professionally cleaned upon arrival. There was the smell of mildew/mold throughout the house and we found obvious mold in the piano bench. Furthermore, the "high-speed internet" will support barely one device, let alone a group's devices. Also be warned the TV does not support any modern hookups so you will not be able to stream or connect a laptop to watch a movie.

I’m sorry but that was not mold or mildew. That is the smell of the bacteria spray we sprayed on everything. As we were instructed to use. First Clorox and then the anti bacterial spray and yes it smells but during this time there is no choice. The TV is not a smart TV so anyone coming there to watch tv will only get the 112 channels! We have not had any problems with the internet since we added the booster. Had a day trader there for a week he had no problem? I guess this is why you left the house in such a mess. Haven’t walked into that dirty a house in years. Two loads of dishes in dishwasher and two sinks filled,bacon grease every and I mean everywhere. Sorry you didn’t say anything to me when we spoke !

Work trip

Cute cabin but needs a good cleaning, Hot tub also needs to be updated. Dogs come by and are very sweet but afraid they may carry fleas as we did experience some fleas on the porch. Overall the house is very cute and has plenty of space to spread out in.

Really great space for our group, beautiful scenery and comfortable beds.

The house was great for a girls weekend. The beds were pretty comfortable, I'm super picky and the twin I had was very nice :) 20-25 min drive to downtown. The hot tub was a great touch. The house was clean and felt very cozy but could use a deep clean ( the shower head) but would def recommend and would love to go back here!

A treasure box of memories made...

I can't lie, I write this review completely biased. My grandfather, Papaw Bishop, built this lake (or "pond", it was a lake to me as a child..as large as I saw my Papaw) himself. As he did the rock house you pass on the way that my mother grew up in and I spent every summer of my youth in with all my siblings and cousins...and we lived there in middle school. It was then that I got my first babysitting job for the sweet couple who built this cabin. I had many of my "firsts" on this property..I caught my first fish in this pond, I got to feel the accomplishment of fetching dinner from this pond when Meemaw cooked up our bountiful plenty from a days hard work that actually started the night before when we would go out in the dark with our flashlights and old coffee cans digging for nightcrawlers to allure the mightiest of bass.. I caught my first firefly on this property that gave my room a twinkle all night in an old canning jar to the sound of an army of crickets singing their song in perfect harmony, I saw snow for the first time here, I watched animals be born here, I wandered this property for hours on end only to find my way home when I heard Papaws special whistle..and my heart would swell with pride at the look on Meemaws face when she'd marvel at the buckets of blackberries we returned with that she would magically turn into the best cobbler and preserves you ever tasted. On the long road trips here every summer, even if I were asleep, I knew we were close when Mother would slow down and roll down the window...I could smell it, I could hear it, I could taste it...it was the closest to heaven I ever felt. That being said, revealing my biased stance, it also seeds in me what should be the harshest critic. But instead, with raw nerves exposed, I simply can't say how grateful I am on every level to the owner, Ginee, for how tenderly she attended to every detail and made this precious opportunity for us to visit our past. My mother and aunt, who is in poor health, got to come with my kids and siblings to this walk down memory lane..and the love and care for this property they've shown our old homestead so shined in the crevices and layers that unfolded after our chapter, made it that much sweeter. She's thought of every detail and couldn't have been a more gracious host. The ice cream waiting in the freezer and best dogs ever waiting on the porch made me feel the heart of our past beating ever so strong. Thank you Ginee, thank you.

Beautiful secluded paradise on private pond.

We fit 10 dudes comfortably and had a blast fishing and goofing off in the pond. Uber and lift both came to and from the property so that we could enjoy the craft beer scene in Asheville. Hard to leave the place!

Perfect getaway

Such a lovely place! And, it felt like home, complete with fresh flowers in many rooms. We had multiple families staying together and we had room to spare. The pond, the covered porch, the hot tub just enhanced our experience. Our host was responsive before and during our visit. Everyone kept asking “how did you find this place?!” and all I could say was that we just got really lucky.

Murphy’s Law Trip made better by owner

You know that moment when all your plans don’t matter and everything seems to go wrong? For this trip that was when torrential rains knocked out the power to the cabin less than 24 hours after we arrived. The owner did all she could to help calling Duke energy regularly and getting us updates. We ended up without power for a full 24 hours but the owner had candles ready for the evening and we made the most of it. She was extremely accommodating and offered to let us stay an extra day for free to make up for it, even though it wasn’t her fault. Besides that it was exactly what I expected when I booked it. A pleasant cabin on a pond a short drive from Asheville. The hard shell hot tub worked fine and the property was well maintained. Quick tip: while the cabin is within Uber distance to Asheville it is really not possible to get one from the cabin to the city. Easy to get one from the city to the cabin though.

Lovely Woodland Stay in Asheville - April 2019

This rental exceeded our expectations!! My friends and I were having a hard time finding a five-bedroom house that didn't break the bank, and we're so happy we landed on this one. We had 9 adults, 2 toddlers and an infant, and we all fit comfortably. The patio overlooking the pond is so peaceful. We spent almost our entire time there. The house is only about 15-20 minutes from Asheville so we were able to pop in whenever we liked. The owner of this rental is very accommodating and was able to adjust our check out time (though that is obviously on a case by case basis). I highly recommend this rental for a peaceful, fun weekend outside Asheville. 5 STARS!

Wonderful place to stay

We loved this cabin! Very private and secluded, yet minutes away from everything!. We loved the convenience of being close to town, yet enjoyed feeling like we were in the middle of the woods. This cabin has everything you need and we will certainly be back.The owner was quick to respond to anything that we asked.
